This has happened to me more times then I believe is coincidence so let me ask you guys to see if you've experienced this

My first race at zolder and I go into the pits in 4th (very early into the pit window). I come out in 13th place which is kind of what I expected since I was the only one who did the pitstop that early.

Problem is, after the pit window closes I am still in 13th place. Although the spotter said one or two times that somebody was leaving the pits I never saw them.

If the AI cars did do that pit stop, why did I move up any places in why did not pass anybody?

I could ask you so many questions before giving you an answer.
Here a few to think about.
How quick was your pit stop?
Was it manual or automatic.
Did you have damage.
Did you add fuel.
Did you go in & out off the pit without making a mistake.

Do you watch the race grid to see who is in the pit & how far ahead is that car.

I could go on but that's a start if thing to think about.

Great questions:

It was a valid stop with no mistakes.
It didn't seem unusually long but I didn't time it.
No fuel added but tire swap was mandatory.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by watching the "race grid" but every time I did pass the pit wall I looked over and didn't see anyone.

Your MFD has a grid list it shows who's in the pit

There's a big red timer that tells you how long your pitstop is taking whilst it's happening... a tyre and driver swap is 30s... repairing damage can be anything from a few seconds to a lot of seconds.... if you don't uncheck 'change brakes' that adds a minute. Even a slow entry or exit, or not hitting your box perfectly can lose you many places in a sprint race.

Thank you. Once I set my pit stop strategy I turn that off because it distracts me because I get caught looking at the times and I get off the road

Now that you mention it, I did have trouble settling into my pit box.

With the pitstop did the car go up in 1 motion or two , I have had it a few times because I was not dead straight even though I stop at the mark.

The race grid is on the bottom left it's part of your MFD .

Is your starter manual or automatic

I have it set to automatic. I swear it feels like forever before I can pull away.I went too far forward and they waited a little bit and then they finally back my car up before they lifted it

My problem is other cars hit me on their way out and I get disqualified for speeding.

You cannot be hit by other cars in the pits because collisions are disabled. If you are being DSQed for speeding then you are speeding so make sure your pit speed limiter is engaged *BEFORE* you enter the pits. Note: being in any other gear besides first will cancel the pit speed limiter.

BTW if you speed into the pits you do not get DSQed until after your pitstop is complete. Just ask me how I know this ;-)

Which also means that if there is a car in the pit box before yours, you can ignore it and drive straight through it if it helps align with your own box.

Thanks for the tip, I'll pay more attention to make sure I'm in 1st when entering the pits.

Oddly, I've also been hit (driven through) as I approach the speed zone at the Zolder pits (the left/right zig zag) - and the action of AI driving through me flings my car into the wall just before the speed limit line, and then I have to throw the car into R and point in the right direction again. By this time I've gone from 1st to last.

Those things make our pit stop seconds slower & it counts in a big way.

Just like going into the pits if you two slow the AI will drive through you.
Pits stop can make you loose a race so easily

Yes because your two slow & regarded as dangerous.

Yes, collisions are only disabled *in* the pits, that is between the speed zones, so yes you can get hit before and after the speed zone starts/ends :-(

I have also had a case that while pitting someone else was in my pit box so I had to drive through them and park inside them. Odd feeling, looking at the inside of another car :-( Tip: if you are on hard drugs when this happens, quit the game and go an have a lie down :-) :-)

I had AI cars ghost at the end of Parabolica, which was fortunate as I found out when they slowed down to pit as I was passing on the inside. Would've been a nasty accident of my own making. They also stay ghosted for quite a while after exiting the pits.

I also think the AI cars drive ever so slightly faster than the player in the pits. I've had auto limiter on and have had cars catch up and even pass through me as I was leaving the pits.

Yeah I got insta-DQ'd in a 3 hour race because I climbed back into the chair and smashed the upshift paddle too much and left my pit box in 2nd gear... that was not a happy moment.
