Exchanged my PS3 copy for the PC version.
Went a bit mad and bought a new Athlon 11 X4, AM2+MB and DDR3 8GB.

What a great game this is on the PC. Reminds me a lot of GTR2 but about 3 times better imo. All graphics maxed and runs nice and smooth.

Even the first little Audi upgaded is a joy to drive. Nice weight to the wheel and great feedback.
The tracks are excellent. Night time races and the AI are a breath of fresh air even if they get lost now and then.

Really impressed by this sim/game. I think it's a much better game than Rfactor, Gtr2, Lfs though I like all those too. IMO it is a great sim.

I've tried the PC version (max settings) before I got my copy for the PS3, and the PC version has two advantages.
One is that driving feels much nicer, probably due to no/lesser input lag (I didn't scientifically test it or anything, but it feels more responsive) and going above the 30fps the console versions run at.
The other is improved graphics, though it isn't that huge of a difference.

If you already played GTR2/rfactor, why you dont pick up the PC version from first??

PS: try the minimod for handling and the fov cam mod 👍

PC wasn't quick enough for Shift 2 or even GTR2 really.
Thought I could enjoy the PS3 verion and not have to upgrade my PC.
Really glad I did though.

Will try those mods soon mate.

sheesh, hah. How much did you end up spending?

Paid £380 for the PC Base unit and £100 for the ATI card.
Looking around, I could have got everything I needed for about £400 but I didn't want to wait.
Rang a guy from an ebay shop Saturday 12 noon and picked it up within an hour.
Got the ATI the next day.
Just sold a guitar for £350 so that helped.

The old Geforce 9500GT was the bottleneck though. Not a very good card.
The ATIRadeon 5770 is a moderate budget card but light years faster.

How does the PC version compare to the PS3?

The PS3 version has it's own character and may prove to be brilliant with a patch, but my wheel had no weight or feel to it. It was really bad. No adjustments worked.
I couldn't wait for a patch and I was thinking that there may be open wheeler mods for the PC version in the future.

I think the PC version looks really nice, but then the PS3 game is good too. I didn't check them for graphics quality side by side but I would give the edge to the PC version from memory.

Despite all my complaints and issues with the game, Shift 2 on the pc looks amazing, the environments/tracks are the best looking i've seen in any racing game. The car models still do not rival GT5 premiums, and i had to turn off some of the crazy effects (preference, i hate motion blur nonsense), but then even on medium details it was looking better than any other racing game, atleast on a performance/quality ratio.

If only it worked for more than 10minutes before my Radeon drivers crashed. With a patch addressing issues it will be improved on all systems, though the graphical weakness on the consoles will likely not improve.

My HD 5770 has been fine but I just found this

I've seen a few fix sites around like that, most of them suggest updating drivers, i updated to the 11.3 drivers which completely ruined the game even more, lost all textures on the cars and reduced my FPS by about 20. Seems to be a common issue that either has to be fixed by AMD with new drivers (11.3 came out about a week ago?) or fixed by the Shift devs with a patch.

I think it might be the 11.3 drivers.

With my 5870 other games are showing odd glitches at times now, oddly enough shift 2 is 100% fine though.

i couldn't get my G25 to work properly with the PC version. It works flawlessly on PS3. The graphics are marginally better on the PC.
