I have been using cockpit for my driving view since the beginning because I never really cared for the other views, and I accidentally switched it to bumper cam, and since it had already started the run I decided just to try it. My first thought was "wow I can see everything clearly", then I saw sections like the kink, where you have to straddle the curb on entry, were no longer as hard to hit correctly.
I switched it up once before when I saw TRC Hunk using it, but I changed it back because I though meh, it probably doesn't matter, in my case, I was wrong.
The reason's bumper cam helped me over cockpit were pretty obvious when you think about them. When you are in cockpit your view is limited and your view of the curbs is slightly obstructed by the car, causing a little bit of guess work in areas like T7/T8 entry. Then, when in cockpit you sometimes get the drastic vibrations which is a cool fun effect, but when its simulated on a TV it can be distracting, bumper cam solved that for me as well.
I immediately felt more consistent, even though at first I wasn't faster. What has happened though, is I am now able to see the entire track unobstructed making it easier to hit my points. Before when I was in cockpit view when I lost time I sometimes didn't know why I was losing time because of the guesswork I was doing in some areas. With the bumper cam I felt like I always knew where I could gain time.
The largest thing though was the consistency, I went from random fast lap here and there to consistent good laps then chances time after time for a faster lap if I just complete my splits.
If you are using cockpit view and getting frustrated it might be worth it to check out the bumper cam and get used to it for a day, it really helped me a lot and when I went back into the cockpit I almost cringed because I felt so restricted.
I also think bumper cam reflects a more realistic point of view since we are looking through TV's, we need all the help we can get to make the road bigger, not smaller.
