Changing my driving view shaved .500 on Rome

I have been using cockpit for my driving view since the beginning because I never really cared for the other views, and I accidentally switched it to bumper cam, and since it had already started the run I decided just to try it. My first thought was "wow I can see everything clearly", then I saw sections like the kink, where you have to straddle the curb on entry, were no longer as hard to hit correctly.

I switched it up once before when I saw TRC Hunk using it, but I changed it back because I though meh, it probably doesn't matter, in my case, I was wrong.

The reason's bumper cam helped me over cockpit were pretty obvious when you think about them. When you are in cockpit your view is limited and your view of the curbs is slightly obstructed by the car, causing a little bit of guess work in areas like T7/T8 entry. Then, when in cockpit you sometimes get the drastic vibrations which is a cool fun effect, but when its simulated on a TV it can be distracting, bumper cam solved that for me as well.

I immediately felt more consistent, even though at first I wasn't faster. What has happened though, is I am now able to see the entire track unobstructed making it easier to hit my points. Before when I was in cockpit view when I lost time I sometimes didn't know why I was losing time because of the guesswork I was doing in some areas. With the bumper cam I felt like I always knew where I could gain time.

The largest thing though was the consistency, I went from random fast lap here and there to consistent good laps then chances time after time for a faster lap if I just complete my splits.

If you are using cockpit view and getting frustrated it might be worth it to check out the bumper cam and get used to it for a day, it really helped me a lot and when I went back into the cockpit I almost cringed because I felt so restricted.

I also think bumper cam reflects a more realistic point of view since we are looking through TV's, we need all the help we can get to make the road bigger, not smaller.

During the 2010 Academy TT I found that switching between bumper cam and cockpit view every day or two helped me cut down my lap times and climb up the leaderboard.

It's mainly personal preference but the mind seems to like a small change here or there from time to time.

I always use the roof cam so I can see how the nose of the car is pointed and I have a slightly higher view of things ahead. To each their own 👍

What you are saying is exactly the same tip that is given on the Prima Essential Track Guide for Gran Turismo 5, Sugawara suggests to use that camera, specially online where plus having an improved view of the track, you have a better visual of other races as well.
Good to know it has worked for you guys, I will give it a try for sure

lol really? Thats pretty cool I guess :)

I used the cockpit view for the longest time since I like to feel like I'm in the car. But I get better times using the roof cam, I haven't tried the bumper cam yet. I think I will. Really wanting to get past the 1st round in Acadamy.

I've switched between bumper and roof at times. Roof has helped improve my times around Rome. Haven't tried it on Cape Ring, but it annoys me that I'm ~5 seconds off the leader on that track.

I know I could make better times with the external cams, but I just can't get away from the first person view. As a gamer, my favorite genres are simulations and just about anything that gives you a somewhat realistic first person perspective. It's going to be extremely difficult for me to use a less realistic view for a simulation game...(just because of my preferences).

I'll probably take advantage of the external view before the end of the final week just to get a better time...but I won't like it, LOL.

FYI: It's the same "driver view" that the previous games use, which is even easier than it ever was to see that it's NOT a bumper cam. When you switch from driver to cockpit cam it doesn't change the camera perspective at all, just draws the dashboard in your way.

You and me both.

Haven't tried roof cam, what is your time on Rome? If it is lower than my 1.22.3xx than I'll switch to roof cam lol.

Just cut into the 1:22's with a 1:22.960. Got at least another .5-.7 to gain. Although i would love to get into the 1:21.xxx range
