Just bought a middle of the range wheel and pedals and noticed it's a steep learning curve. Thought I'd create a thread for advice, feedback and general chat so we could all share and gain experience from others. Please share any relevant advice or queries.. thanks

I hope you have patience and time. I just sold my set up after I realized the mountain I had to climb. Just not enough free time with work and kids. I’ll try again in 10 years when the kids are in college, lol

In before some comedian says the clichéd 'git gud'
Yeah someone will always drop something like that. Just thought it would be good to share and learn from others.

Bro I hear that! It's like learning the game all over again, should have bought a wheel when I was on gt sport.
It's hard but I'm just getting close to the consistency I had with a controller.
I went from an s and b when I started and woke up the next day as b and c cause it was so different. Got the sr and dr back up now though.

T300RS GT? I'm looking at that boy, is it good ?
Wow, I couldn't tell you. I'm looking at getting a similar chair set up but for now I just got the Logitech G923 cause it's a cheap entry level wheel and pedals.
I was overwhelmed at first but after a few days and finally making some progress and winning my dr and sr losses back I feel more confident. It definately gives you more control especially over braking and throttle but it's just a shock to the system how hard it is to learn all over again, I can race real cars but this is totally different.
I hope you find something you like dude.
Gamesmen have a DD pro and racing cockpit setup if you wanted to check it out but I guess it depends where you live.
Not sure if you've tried one yet but if you can it's awesome.

T300 RS 3 pedal + TH8 manual shifter if you can find a good deal.

I used to have a Fanatec set but that was wasted on a game like GT Sport and GT7

One tip I'd like to give is change the torque setting depending on what car you drive. Slidey road cars (or just road cars in general) are extremely tough to handle if it's set at 10 or close, so put it to 5 or lower (the wheel will feel more limb but it's good so that countersteering is easier and smoother).

And vice versa a high torque setting for racing cars.

Nice. Thanks mate I'll try that, I don't usually set it higher than 4 or 5 normally anyway but yeah I can see why the car and conditions would warrant differing torque settings.
Awesome, this why I wanted to create this thread. Much appreciated.

Do you refer here to GT7 in-game controller feedback torque setting?

I have not changed this since setting up GT7. I have available also distinct settings on my wheel, which I have not changed since setting up GT7. My settings have changed only slightly since GTS.
I have not had time to experiment with changes here. I never considered adapting this setting to better match my chosen car.

I tried and tried and tried with an admittedly basic rig and just could NOT get anywhere near my controller times nor consistency. The biggest issue is brake feel, IRL I get pressure and feedback, in game there's just nothing and I cannot adapt to it at all. Same with lift off oversteer, i just can't feel it coming at all. I dunno, I have not totally given up but I spent many dozens of hours getting absolutely nowhere.

I used a wheel for several months back in GT5. FWD cars were the easiest to start with, since you didn't have to worry too much about the back end coming around, but that may no longer be the case, as a lot of FWD cars in GT7 have lift off oversteer for some reason.

The point is, start with some easy to drive, and get use to the wheel and pedals. As you get more comfortable, try something more difficult.

I for the most part enjoyed using a wheel, and was almost immediately faster in FWD cars, than I ever was with a controller, but didn't have a dedicated spot for a rig, and got tired up setting it up every time. I eventually went back to a controller, out of convenience, and been using one since.

My tip: choose the car and track you like the most and do Time Trial until you match the lap times you did on the controller.

It took me 300 kilometers. Then I overcome my times naturally. (Grand Valley East/350z)

I've only just got a wheel and pedals but yeah that's what we have been discussing. I have been increasing my torque and sensitivity to suit and it seems to help for different cars.
Some of the other people in the thread may be more helpful and experienced though.

Yeah It was daunting day one but a few days in I'm pretty much on par and I'm placing again in daily races. It's allot harder to deal with dirty racers though cause I can't react as quickly yet. I guess that will come with time as well.
Thanks for the advice, I'll definately be doing some repetition and building up muscle memory, just need more actual muscle in the left leg now....

It would still be like learning the game all over again. I used a wheel exclusively with GT Sport, but I find it absolutely awful with GT7 and now play GT7 with controller. I don't know if it's something about my setup, which is a Fanatec wheel with Drive Hub to adapt it to work with the PS4, but it's just absolutely awful with GT7, doesn't resemble how the wheel of a real car feels in any way.

Wow. Ok I'm glad you told me cause I thought I'd start out with a cheaper one and then move up to a direct drive once I got used to it, but you reckon the fanatec doesn't work for you? Better do my homework and test some before or if I upgrade.

The DD Fanatec that is made for Playstation might be fine. Mine is a PC/Xbox Fanatec that needs a Drive Hub adapter, and it was working fine with GTS, but needed a Drive Hub firmware update to work at all acceptably with GT7, and I think the Drive Hub might still be causing problems.

Oh ok. Cause I've noticed allot of the YouTube content creators used the fanatec pro so I thought it might be a good next option cause I wouldn't mind upgrading once I get better with a wheel and pedals to try and get to that next level. If I could consistently stay sr: s and dr: a or even a+ I would be stoked. I think I can race strongly and consistently enough if I have the right gear, I just want to choose the right gear.
There is no use watching reviews cause most of them are sponsored by the company or the reviewer has a bias toward a particular product.
Feedback like yours is great cause it tells me what to expect and look out for.
Thanks heaps mate.

I've also been checking out this cockpit.
It's lightweight and folds up but it looks pretty secure from the specs and independent reviews are pretty good.
And it supports the wheel and pedals I have.
Anyone bought anything similar?
Any advice or other options would be appreciated.
