if there is a thread like this already, please notify me, don't hesitate to lock this thread.., well anyways, here i go..,

since i am a huge car fanatic like all of you guys, i want to know the chassis codes of the cars that i like/interest me..,

in this thread, feel free to ask/contribute your knowledge about the chassis codes of different cars, as this maybe useful reference for not only me but to other GTP members.., you can add cars, even manufacturers to the list.., if there are need for corrections, please do so tell..,

i'll start the list.., this is only a few, i'll add some more in the next couple of days..,

Toyota
-Supra : MA70, JZA80
-Celica : ST163, ST183, ST185, ST202, ST205, ZZT231
-Altezza : SXE10
-Sprinter Trueno/Corolla Levin : AE85, AE86, AE92, AE101, AE111
-MR2 : SW20, ZZW30

Mitsubishi
-Lancer Evo I, II : ??
- " Evo III : CE9A
- " Evo IV : CN9A
- " Evo V, VI : CP9A
- " Evo VII, VIII, IX : CT9A
- " Evo X : ??
-Eclipse :

Nissan

You're going to want to put GM into one big category:

- Corvette/XLR: Y-Body (with generational denominations)
- Camaro/Firebird: F-Body (with generational denominations)
- Cadillac DTS: K-Body*
- Buick Lucerne: H-Body*
- Pontiac Grand Prix/Buick LaCrosse/Chevrolet Impala: W-Body

*K and H bodies are essentially the same

Although these days, its more about the platform that creates the model:

- Delta: Cobalt, G5, Astra (hybrid chassis)
- Epsilon: Vectra, Aura, Malibu, G6, 9-3, BLS
- Sigma I: SRX, STS
- Sigma II: CTS
- Kappa: Sosltice, Sky, Opel GT, Daewoo thingy
- Zeta: Commodore/Ute, Lumina, G8/G8 ST, Park Avenue, Camaro
- Theta: Antara, Captiva, VUE, Terrain, Equinox, 9-4X, BRX
- Lambda: Traverse, Outlook, Acadia, Enclave

Then you get into the trucks...

GMT345: HUMMER H3 (and respective spin-offs)
GMT355: Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon
GMT800: HUMMER H2 (and respective spin-offs)
GMT900: Tahoe, Avalanche, Suburban, Yukon/Denali, Yukon/Denali XL, Escalade (with respective spin-offs)

Generational transitions at GM do not change chassis codes, as more often than not, the chassis remains essentially the same. The W-Body has been in service since 1988, and will be phased out after 2008. It has been one of the longest-running platforms in North America with the exception of the Ford Panther platform that underpins the Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, and Town Car.

W201: Mercedes 190 series (1984-1993)
W123: Mercedes 300 series (1976-1985)
W124: Mercedes E class (1986-1995)

Others can go into the details. I think 124.992 means a W124 with the M104. I could be wrong.

Is the Soarer/SC300 the JZA70?

ever since Gran Turismo introduced these internal model designations, everybody's started using them or digging them up.

W201: Mercedes 190 series (1984-1993)
W123: Mercedes 300 series (1976-1985)
W124: Mercedes E class (1986-1995)

Others can go into the details. I think 124.992 means a W124 with the M104. I could be wrong.

Is the Soarer/SC300 the JZA70?

look at my signature :sly:
some models may also use c for coupe versions, r for roadsters, a for cabrio versions (only used for the a124 iirc), s for wagons, and v for limo versions. is; c126 is a s class coupe and s123 is an older e class wagon

w116 w126 w140 w220 w221 = S class from 1970s to present
w114/115 w123 w124 w210 w211 = E class from 1970s to present
w201 w202 w203 w204 = C class from beginning to present
w113 r107 r129 r230 = SL from 1960s to present
c208 c209 =CLK from beginning to present
c215 c216 = CL from beginning to present
r170 r171 = SLK from beginning to present
c199 = SLR
w100 = the almighty 600 sedan

EDIT: Hight Test I believe your wagon would be 124.092 if I'm not mistaken

W100 = WIN.

Ah. thanks for clearing that up. Where did I get the .992 from? :odd:

Honda
-Civic : EG6, EK9 , EP3, FD2
-Integra : DC2, DB8, DC5, DA
-NSX : NA2
-Accord : CD6
-S2000 : AP1, AP2
-CRX (del Sol) :EF8
Those are the only one's I could remember off the top of my head. But to be perfectly honest we live in America none of those chassis codes apply to American Honda's except; dc2 integra, and s2k.

Is it just me or does the lack of numbers at GM make their stuff easier to remember?

We'll try Ford:

B3: Subcompact, Ford Fiesta and Mazda 2
C1: Compact, Ford Focus and Mazda 3 (among others)
CD2: Compact SUV, Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute
CD3: Mid-Size car/crossover, Ford Fusion and Mazda 6, also Mazda CX7 and CX9 --> Related to U38
D3: Full-Size car, Ford Taurus and Volvo S60
EUCD: Mid-Size/Crossover, Ford Mondeo and Land Rover LR2
D2C: Sports Car/RWD, Ford Mustang only
P2/P3: Truck/BOF platform, Ford F-150 and SuperDuty
U2/U3: SUV/BOF platform, Ford Explorer and extended versions
U38: Crossover/SUV platform, Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX
Panther: Full-size/RWD, Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car

No rhyme or reason to any of it... I can't stand it.

Chrysler seemingly seems to have a FAIL system as well:

LX: Charger/Magnum and Challenger, 300
PT: PT Cruiser (who knew?)
CS: Pacifica
JS: Avenger and Sebring --> Related to Mitsubishi Gallant
PM/MK: Dodge Caliber, Jeep Patriot/Compass
RT: Grand Caravan, Town and Country
NM: Dakota --> Mitsubishi Raider
HB/HG: Durango, Aspen
DS: Ram
WK: Grand Cherokee
JK: Wrangler

...Again, no rhyme or reason to any of it... Which confuses the hell out of me.

Lotus:

Elise, Exige, 2-Eleven and 340R of all years and model levels are all chassis code 111.

Elan S2 is chassis M100.

Esprit are differentiated by model S1, S2, S3, and S4. The fourth generation are often referred to as "Stevens" Esprits, who was the designer responsible for the visual overhaul of the Esprit, and there was only a single Esprit of that generation actually titled as S4.

Little known fact: just as Grover from Sesame Street shares a lot with Yoda from Star Wars, the Stevens Esprits share tail lights from Toyota's AE86.

It would be great if someone could post a comprehensive list of BMW's e codes, as they are confusing to many. Maybe also clearly editing the first post as a reference?

Might as well add these:

Aston Martin:

VH-platform: 2005-onwards 'Vertical/Horizontal' shared extruded alloy chassis platform.

VH100 = DB9 Coupe (by convention, the last digit changes with MY updates.)
VH130 = Volante

VH200 = V8 Vantage
VH230 = Roadster
VH250 = N400 Special Edition Sports Pack

Honda Civic Sir: EK4
Honda Civic DX hatchback: EJ6
Honda Civic (2000 to 2003 I think) : EM2 (coupe)

You might as well give up now dude. Theres about 25 different chassis codes for the Civic alone, listing them all under just "honda civic" doesn't tell you much.

2001 to 2004, actually.

And there's bazillions of codes for the Civic, because each trim level/engine had a different code. There was one for the DX, HX, EX, LX, Si, etc., and they were different when pertaining to the body style (DX hatch, DX Coupe). And that repeats for every generation. There is probably a hundred of them.

Jeep:
'87-'95 Wrangler: YJ
'97-'06 Wrangler: TJ
'07- Wrangler: JK
'84-'01 Cherokee: XJ
'86-'92 Commanche: MJ
'93-'98 Grand Cherokee: ZJ
'99-'04 Grand Cherokee: WJ
'05- Grand Cherokee: WK
Liberty: KJ
Commander: XK

In enthusiast circles, they were regularly used long before GT was created.

M

I meant that they're NOW common.

I HAD a fox platform or two. an 80 Fairmont Futura (never got to drive it), and an 80 Marquis as my first DRIVEN car. whoo, that was a little hotrod with the 3.8

I saw the Taurus/Sable body designation once. anybody have it?

First four generations of Taurus are all D186 platform -- not sure of the new one.

I love my Fox platform Mustang. :)

Anyone know what will happen with the 911 once they run out of three digit codes? We've got 2 more refreshes/gens before we hit the big millenial.

Is the Soarer/SC300 the JZA70?

The Soarer/SC300 with a 1JZ or a 2JZ motor is a JZZ30 and the V8 engined cars are UZZ30.

JZA70 would be the MKIII Supra. JZA80 is the MKIV.

Actually, the Toyota Supra Twin Turbo R (with the 1JZGTE) had was a JZA70. The Supras with the 7MGTE were MA70s and the Supras with the 1GGTE were GA70s.

Quite often (IF not all of the time) Toyota model codes reflect the type of engine fitted to the car e.g a car with a JZ engine will have a model code starting with JZ, like JZA70, JZA80 and JZZ30.

Truth. The chassis code for Toyotas are always in four parts: engine, model, generation, sub-model.

For example, "ST205" is broken down from S (3S-GTE engine), T (Celica, from about '82 onward), 20 (generational -- doesn't necessarily mean 20th generation, but always a higher number than the generation before it), 5 (GT-Four/AllTrac).

As far as some recent models go,
A = Celica up to 1985, Supra
E = Corolla
T = Celica
V = Camry
W = MR2/MR-S
X = Chaser
Z = Soarer (Lexus SC)
XE = Altezza (Lexus IS)
XX = Avalon

Just to name a few. Toyota codes are easy...
