Chassis Reinforcement = rollcage?

is the Chassis Reinforcement upgrade in the game the same as Increase Rigidity (rollcage) in GT4? If so, how heavy is your average rollcage? I want to simulate the extra weight from the rollcage in my tunes. I've seen on the internet that rollcages can be made from different kinds of metal: mild steel, T-45, chrome molybdenum etc. How heavy does a rollcage from each of these materials weigh?

It does not add weight to your car at all. Also, I don't even think its a roll cage. Pretty sure it just stiffens the suspension with bigger anti roll bars or other suspension parts.

I know it does not add weight. The reason why I asked this question is because you can fit a rollcage (which has the same purpose as Chassis Reinforcement in GT5) on most cars in GT4 and NOT gain weight (how is that possible??).

^^^ Correct

weight can be added through the ballast system.

you didn't understand my question, mate. :indiff:

No, it's more along the lines of suspension braces.

It is as stated in the quote. They are really strut tower braces for the front and rear of a car with macphearson struts and shock tower braces for cars that have rear shock absorbers. Many of the Japanese cars and most FWD cars utilize macphearson struts on the front and shock absorbers on the rear. The chassis reinforcement reduces flexing of the body between the strut towers and the rear shocks when under load from hard cornering and braking. They can help tighten up a car that has a tendancy for over steer or pushing meaning the car wants to continue going straight when you are trying to make it turn.

As stated they do not add weight to the car. I am not sure how these would be used in cars with double wishbone suspensions. Read the description about the car and in most but not all cases it will tell you what type of suspension the car has.

As for roll cages I think but could be wrong but only race cars or cars that can be race modded actually have roll cages. I tried a couple of premium cars that weren't race modded from the cockpit view and can't see any signs of a roll cage and even my Jag XJR-9 race car. The only clear view of an actual roll cage I can see is in the MX-5 TC.

Not sure it "ruined every car" of mine, but it changes the effect a tune has on a car and that can be detrimental in some cases.

And they had the courtesy to make it irreversible.

As said above, there are ways to increase chassis rigidity without a rollcage, and therefore without the weight gain that a roll cage would bring. In addition to the suspension braces and general beefing up that seems to be about what the GT5 option does, doing specific and precise stitch welds to the body/chassis can also dramatically increase the "strength" of the car with very little (if any) changes in weight (which is also probably what GT4 and GT5's systems are attempting to emulate, since they are irreversible).

If it's irreversible, then it's very likely meant to represent the effects of seam- and/or stitch- welding the chassis.

I have a 6 point road race cage. It is 1.500” x 0.120” Chrome-moly, with double driver side door bars. It weights about 100lbs, with mounting plates.

Isn't the Chassis Reinforcement just adds a Strut Bar to balance the suspension for better Cornering??

That is exactly correct. Just look at the pictures that are shown when you are in the body/chassis area. They are strut tower braces.

Knew it! I hear though that reinforcement can add a bit of weight on a car IRL? If I'm not mistaken.

Since I only use the Chassis Reinforcement on cars with struts and shocks I have never had it affect a suspension tune. I may try it with a car to see but I usually add them to cars I know that have struts and shocks as soon as I add the rest of the parts. I have never had them add weight to a car so I don't understand why they would. I have used them on street cars and the set barely weights 10 lbs. depending on the car. Most of them are made of steel but I have seen options for aluminum and titanium they just cost more.
I can see how it may effect a car with a dual wishbone suspension. It could make the car more rigid and that could mess up your suspension tune but I believe it would be car specific.
