Chat Volume and headphones

My family gave me a set of Turtle Beach PX5 headphones for Christmas. The Chat Volume switch doesn't seem to lower the chat that much. Is there are way to lower the entire Room's chat from the PS3? Not completely muting individual players as in the lobby options.

Even with the chat volume lowered on the headphones somewhat, the room chatter on the TV is sometimes still way too loud. I like to have the TV sound on so the headphones aren't so loud. Thanks.

It can be done from the accessory settongs in the xmb.

^In the accessory settings, I see a microphone level adjustment but none for chat. Not in Sound Settings either.
