Cheaper fuel for UK residents?

I came across this site recently, a mate of mine pointed towards it.
www.PipelineCard.org
Read about it and make your decision.
This guy has been campaigning for cheaper fuel in the uk for a long time, looks like he's finally going to be able to do it.
I want to help him out as i would like to benefit from cheaper fuel.
I dont enjoy paying 70p tax per litre of 95 octane. :grumpy:
I hadnt seen it posted on here previously and a search turned up nothing.
I might even have the wrong forum, but i cant think of where it should go so this seemed like the best choice.
Sorry if i goofed :dunce:

95 octane? Is that your lowest rating?

In the US ours are 87, 91, 93 and in some states they sell 101 at the pump as well.

No wonder why your gasoline is sooooo expensive!

I'm certainly behind any campain for cheaper fuel. At the moment it works out at almost £1200 a year of petrol I'm putting into my car, IMHO the prices are frankly ridiculous.

Car ownership just seems to be becoming more and more expensive recently, and I'm worried about how much more expensive it's going to get, especialy with these ideas for road pricing floating around. Even if a campain for cheaper fuel suceeds, I can only see the difference being pulled back by the govt. ripping us of in yet another way.

Yes, it's 95 or 97, and then there's LRP (formerly 4-star) in some stations for older non-unleaded veichles.

The U.S. uses the research octane test, and the motor octane test, to come up with the pump octane number (PON). In Europe they use just the research octane test (RON).

Their 95 octane is equivalent to our 91 octane.

Yep, thought its almost impossible to say if they are equal or one is better better in your car. Famine could clear this up, as I'm basing my post off one he made a while ago, but it goes something along the lines of the MON being the most accurate number yet no one uses it so its possible(though unlikely) that some gas will have an extremely high RON and a low MON. So a higher grade gas could be absolute garbage but they still would charge you more.

Pipeline Card Update:

Dear Pipeline Card Member,

Top Gear's Richard Hammond has joined the list of Pipeline supporters
by signing up and giving us a full page write-up in his Mirror column
(now listed on the media page) Thanks Richard!

The emails are still coming in thick and fast, asking if we can use
Pipeline's purchasing power to get better deals on other products like
heating oil, gas or even car insurance. For those who wrote in about oil,
we are making progress and will write to you individually in a few
days. It's looking good!

Gas is a deserving case, with all the recent price rises, but very
tricky - and we don't really want to spend too much time on things that
have nothing to do with petrol or motoring. Still, have a look at this new
page on our website (http://www.pipelinecard.org/gande.html) and see
what you think.

We have also had some thoughts about ways of saving money on car
insurance and breakdown insurance. But don't expect a page full of ads and
special offers. That's not what we do. Check out
http://www.pipelinecard.org/insurance.html and
http://www.pipelinecard.org/breakdown.html and you will see what I
mean.

The other big question that many of you are asking is "how are the
negotiations with our retail partner going and when am I going to get my
card?" The short answer is, it's all moving ahead, but not as quickly as
we would like. Wheels move slowly in large organisations and our
membership has clearly grown faster than they were expecting. We are keeping
the pressure on and we are still hoping to have some good news for you
in May or June.

Please keep the emails and feedback coming - and keep telling people
about Pipeline. Our strength is directly related to our numbers so we
still need to build up that strength while we negotiate on your behalf.

Following some of that feedback, we have simplified the Home Page for
people who already know what Pipeline is and simply want to get on and
register. Our 'mission statement' is only a click away behind the 'What
is Pipeline' button but you don't have to read through it to sign up.

That's it for now. Don't forget that you can recommend Pipeline by
clicking here http://www.pipelinecard.org/recommend.html

stickers - watch this space!

Poverty
Our fuels only due to go up and with this maybe stay at the level it is at now.

so id rather pay what we're paying now or less, than 5p more per litre.
who wouldnt?

say you fill your car up from near empty.
i have a 50ltr tank, so 50 ltrs x 5p = £2.50
say i fill a full tank every month
£2.50 x 12 = £30 a year
or if its 10p £60 a year, that makes a difference, that'd be nearly a months insurance ive saved!
