Fielded along with his 3rd generation #81 Camaro in the 1982 Le Mans, this #80 Camaro, nicknamed "The Snowplough" was built by NASCAR driver Bill Hagan. It also ran in the previous years 24 hour race but retired due to making acquaintance with a guardrail, and the repairs to the front end gave it this radical new look.
This Camaro is powered by a 393 V8 that puts out around 600 horsepower through its 20 inch wide rear tyres, and its weight was stripped right down to just 2,400 lbs. In the race itself it qualified in the GTO class, but didn't fare well. Just two hours into the race, the car started having major trouble with its gearbox, and ultimately spent seven hours in the pits, first repairing and then completely replacing the gearbox. The team continued on though, not wanting a DNF like the year before and in the end they finished 218 laps behind the winning Porsche 936.
Thankfully however, reliability isn't an issue for virtual cars, and we definitely need more historic racing beasts on GranTurismo...
