History:
The Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicle II or CERV II was designed by none other than that "Father of Corvette" himself Zora Arkus-Duntov. This car was built to give GM valuable information about making mid-engine vehicles in an effort to keep up with Ferrari and Ford. Also 4-wheeldrive was attempted by Duntov for the first time in this car to accomplish one of his goals of a high performance 4-wheeldrive car. The first attempt was done in 1960 as an open wheel format (see link below for that). After creating the open wheel car, Duntov turned his attention into making a prototype. The car was given a 377 cubic inch motor and reached 212mph (341 km/h) at the Milford Proving Grounds. However Duntov said "We feel that in case we are not permitted to go racing, we should obtain permission to demonstrate it...It will show that although GM is not in racing, its engineering is more imaginative and more advanced than anyone else.” The car then began to test future Corvette parts such as tires and aerodynamics. IN 1969 the car was fitted with a 427 ZL1 engine giving the car a top speed of 221.160mph (356km/h). In 1970 the car was retired and put into storage. On November 11, 2013 the car was sold at RM Acutions for $1,100,000.
