Ever since the turn of the century, Corvette has been a dominant force in GT racing, winning the ALMS GT Teams title 10 times, and has won the top GT class at Le Mans 8 times.

The most successful Corvette racer has to be the C6.R, which debuted in 2006. In it's debut year it fought a tough battle with Aston Martin to win it's class in the GT1 class of Le Mans, while also being the first Corvette race car to influence a production model, with the tech used in the C6.R also being used to develop the Z06 C6 Vette.

When the GT1 class emptied out in the ALMS in 2008, Pratt & Miller, who built all the Corvette GT cars, set to work on creating a GT2 successor, which would be co-developed with the 2009 Corvette ZR1. The GT1 Vette would only be used for the first have of the 2009 ALMS Season, while the GT2 car would race at Le Mans and debut in the 2010 ALMS Season.

The GT2 Vette was powered by the same 5.5 V8 as the ZR1, although the GT2 car lacked the road cars supercharger, producing 485 BHP in race spec. The change in class also meant a change in rivals, with the GT2 Vette having some good battles with the Flying Lizard GT3-RSR in ALMS, with the Vette usually coming out on top.

The ZR1 had as good a career as the GT1 car, finishing 2nd in it's first ALMS race at Mid Ohio, despite having less power than the F430 GT2 due to it's higher displacement. However, the GT2 Vette was somehow still fastest in top speed, clocking 182 MPH on the Mulsanne straight at Le Mans in 2010, faster than any of the GT1 cars.

The C6.R had it's final year of competition in 2013, where it won the ALMS championship with 5 race wins, including the 12 Hours of Sebring. The C6.R's replacement, the new C7.R, debuted in 2014 in the renamed Weathertech United Sportscar Championship.
