Chevy Chevelle SS 454 '70

Hey,

I'm looking for a decent general setup for the Chevelle.

So far this one is the best I've found:
Lion's Den Chevelle Tune

I don't really like this one for a number of reasons. The car bounces all over the place and is very sluggish in the turns. I've been able to correct it mostly with some suspension tuning. However the gear ratio in the transmission is really slow to react at higher RPM's. When driving on the High Speed Ring, I can't get it to shift out of 4th gear and into 5th for most of the track.

I'd really like to see some other examples of what others have done with the Chevelle if anyone wouldn't mind sharing.

2 more here, but... It's a heavy car, on leaf spring suspension. Not really sure how much of the cars natural elements you can tune out.

I'd love to see what you could come up with. I don't really have any specific requirements for it, other than i'd like it to be able to run a course with some sharp turns and still maintain some speed. Perhaps something that would work good on Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

I've got all the upgrades on it including the wing on the back with racing soft tires. If you want I can share the car with you if you don't have one.

I hear you here. I really enjoy driving the older classics, and love to see where I can fit them in to compete with the new dogs

I'm trying to get into tuning them myself and perhaps once I get more of a feel on what i'm doing I'll start posting up some of the tunes. I really do appreciate all the documentation and helpful users on the forums here. It's helped me a ton.

Ok!

I tested it out a on the first draft, and it isn't bad. I took it for 5 laps around the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. After I got the hang of it, I was pulling 1:31.357 as my best lap of the 5.

Couple of things to note:

Transmission:
-I like the transmission. It's responsive, and fast to get up to speed. Seems to fit this track nicely.

Suspension:
-Overall the suspension felt pretty good. It didn't bounce really at all and seemed to adjust to the road well. I did however burn the tires pretty good when putting my foot on the gas, or trying to turn into a corner. It still felt a little sluggish going into the turns, but I was able to do it.

Brakes:
-Overall I fell the brakes could be tighter. I slid pretty good down the track at higher speeds when stepping on the brakes.

One thing I'd suggest is add the wing on it and apply some downforce on the back. With the amount of torque it may help keep the tires from getting burned out, and add some traction.

Overall not a bad start. I'll be glad to give it another go after some adjustments.

Okay, so I made what I think are the final touches to the car. I left the rear spoiler off, for an appearance reasons, but minor changes could be made if you really need it on. Car is on share, and I'll post the tune if it's what you like. Enjoy
