Chinese 4x4 receives 0 stars in crash test

Been posted before, a long, long time ago.

The Chinese can carbon copy an early 90's Isuzu rodeo and totally screw it up. F- for creativity.

... In our 20-year history no car has performed as badly. ...
Wow!

What does it do? After impact it determines whether the car is upright or not, and if not it rolls over just for good measure?

I can't/couldn't see it being a big sales success in Europe anyway. :indiff:

Hmmm, perhaps the Chinese plan on using it as a form of population control in their own country?

P.S. Please, nobody take offense to this, I mean it purely as a joke. I have nothing against the Chinese people.

It's a licensed copy. Jiangling didn't "screw it up": this is how bad a Rodeo or Opel/Vauxhall Frontera of that vintage would do.

Oh.. Thanks for clarifying it, Firebird. So, when Honda did the Passport of that Vintage, was it unsafe as well? I can't imagine an unsafe Honda...

Does it blow up upon impact on a fender-bender or something? I can just imagine that this is the type of the vehicle, in a crash, some rods pokes out of the dash and stabs your body parts or something. :ill:

“This car seems to belong in the 1990s in terms of engineering,”
90's what?, Yugo? :D

Does it seem like I'm the only one giving the Chinese a chance? Am I the only one who believes in prosperity and hope of a better tomorrow? Old news or not, I'd want to see the Chinese prosper. The Chinese are pretty much starting out in trying to take a share of the world auto market. They aren't going to become world powers between now and 10 to 25 years ahead. I want to believe they are still trying just make something successful. I'm not going to say "we don't need Chinese automobiles in America," since some Chinese auto makes are looking to take a piece of the American pie. I think they will need to catch up with the Koreans in quality automobiles before thinking about taking on Japan and other big dogs. These results are pretty bad if an automobile scores a 0 grade in a crash test. A bunch of people are going to have to come in to help the Chinese create better, safer, quality automobiles. Not just for the Chinese market, but also the world market. After all, any place outside of the native nation is only 0.000000001% of the world market. If you're going to bring an automobile into another market and it has the crash results of the Jiangling Landwind, who would want a vehicle people aren't going to feel safe in? This is what it comes down to. Why buy a vehicle you aren't going to have your life saved in if in the event of a crash? Crashes don't happen everyday. It doesn't mean they don't happen now, does it?

The reason I'm being sympathetic and prosperous for the Chinese in making this automobile is becaues I want them to have success in a different market. I love Japan and respect the cars they design. However, China's on the rise. If they want to offer their own brand of vehicles from outside of China, then they will need to have something to really offer people. I'm not going to say that they have no place in the world automobile market. That's stupid to say. Unless the vehicles you're coming out with is crap that nobody cares about, and if you're not working to make them better, then simply put... why the hell are you in the world automobile market? I'm giving them the benefit because I want to see them prosper. If Proton, Hyundai, Kia, Tata prospered, then so can these Chinese companies. I think they need more people to actually help out and make their cars better and safer. Nevermind the "oh, that's a (manufacturer) (model) rip-off!" They aren't going to have stellar car designs like a Mercedes-Benz SLK Class roadster, an Aston Martin DB9, or even a Bugatti Veyron. I think they are learning the world market and just need more people to make better autos up to world standards.

With that, I'm giving them a chance. Just don't keep churning out unsafe vehicles, or even those which could end up looking like other peoples' cars. Don't want them "bootlegging" car designs, but at least something people will want. I'm giving them a chance. I'm not going to blast them, not giving them a chance. I love automobiles. I'm not expecting a six-figure sports car from them, but just come out with vehicles people will want and perhaps enjoy, like Kias and most Hyundais for starters. This is still old news. Let's just hope they can get it together and make news... only not in the negative sense.

don't forget, the chinese have decades of communist economy thinking to shuck yet. at least we know they'll do it faster.
I also say let the chinese in and have a shot. break up the Japanese monopoly like the Koreans did. think about it. when they get rolling, and people start suping up Cherrys, the word 'ricer" will lose it's bad connotations. XD

Damn, the car looked like jelly in that crash

GT40 MKII
note to self stay off the roads if one is spotted

No.. If you are about to crash and you have the choice between this and say a Range Rover... Go for this :sly:

Speaking of which...

Frontera

Anyone else notice similarities?

My mom used to drive a 1998 Isuzu Amigo and it receved a poor rating in the frontal crash test, so I'm not surprised by the results of this knockoff.

I was wondering about that, but was too lazy to look it up.

ultrabeat is right -- they aren't licensed copies.

Well ... most china-made cars are crappy
even china-made Honda are very fragile
some people's Honda got their door fell off by hitting by bikes

I heard the china-made VW is better than Honda
Polo and Accord crash together, polo will only have a few dent
and the accord will be total lost

All Chinese makers offer some sort of a foreign rip-off in their lineup. I can tell you because my grandparents live there and Im Chinese by ancestry; I used to go back to China every summer every year.

Aside from that, I heard (a long time ago) that a Chinese maker was being sued by GM for making illegal copy of one of GMs Chinese offering. I mean, they copy everything!

This is funny. I remembered posting comparison pics of Chinese copies before. It turns out that thread was about the Chinese crash test as well.

Pretty amusing stuff. :D

Scenario - You and your family of four are in the Landwind, doing 50mph on highway. You lose control on some icy patch, and then you cross the center line, and smacks into the huge 18-wheeler head-on.

*SQUASHH*

What does "Made in China" have to do with anything? Gosh. Some of you take almost ANYTHING to a low extent. The cars could have been made on Venus or Mercury. What's the point?

I did get a chance to see the crash video of this SUV. For the most part, it's pretty bad. If I had a Landwind and ended up in a head-on crash, then I'd be OWN3D along with the SUV. This may sound dumb, but I think they should concentrate on enhancing safety than coming up with certain car designs.

Now, someone mentioned the Chinese car company which came up with a car that looks too much like a Chevy model in Asia. Not to prove a bit of controversy, but the company is called "Chery." It's almost as if you can replace the "v" with an "r" to get Chery. I want to believe that's the actual car company's name even though we call Chevrolet "Chevy" for short. Just wanted to bring that up.

This is a bunch of websites on many issues related to Chery Automotive:

http://www.chery.cn (official site; Chinese only)
http://www.china.org.cn/english/BAT/106449.htm (potential patent infringement of Chevrolet Spark)
http://www.detnews.com/2005/autosinsider/0504/22/1auto-159177.htm (features Chery's car from 2005 Shanghai Auto Show code named "M14." Maybe their nicest offering I've seen.)
http://www.cardatabase.net/search/photo_search.php?id=00034813 (more info on the Chery M14)
http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2005/04/15/040440.html (more Chery models from 2004 Beijing Auto Show)

Not pertaining to Chery in general:
http://www.cardesignnews.com/autoshows/2005/shanghai/highlights/index.php (Chinese autos from 2005 Shanghai Auto Show. Also features some other vehicles from non-Chinese makes - have to be a member of the site to see larger pictures)

The Chery M14 is told to be the company's first homemade sports car with help from Pinnafarina. It looks a little like 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse meets Peugeot 206. I couldn't find any better pictures for all dimensions of the car. Well, carry on...
