I honestly can't believe this news this morning, Chris Cornell apparently died in his Hotel Room in Detroit last night. Soundgarden is on tour and they just played a show last night. They are investigating it as a suicide but I have serious doubts about that. Chris never struck me as a person who would take his own life, he is happily married, loves his family, very positive dude. I'm calling BS for now, I just refuse to believe it. I'm angry, I'm upset but most of all I'm sad. I grew up with Soundgarden's music, loved all the stuff they did including all of the side projects. Chris was an incredibly gifted musician and singer. Today officially sucks, I hate this day with a passion. I feel for his wife and kids, his friends and band mates I just can't imagine the shock and pain for them right now and the loss they will feel when the reality sets in. I don't even feel like saying the usual RIP, condolences, I'm too pissed for that right now.

I had Soundgarden's Superunknown cassette tape in 7th grade and got caught listening to it in class so my teacher confiscated the tape and said I could get it back at the end of the school year which was in a couple of months. So at the end of the year I asked for it back and she told me that she took it home and listened to it a lot of times and liked it so much that she decided to keep it and gave me $10 for a replacement lol. RIP Chris Cornell.

...Well, this sucks. Cornell was one of those artists you could instantly recognize after listening to an unknown song for one whole second. Damn. I thought it was some kind of sick joke when I read the news. And prior to that, I was busy doing my dishes, singing along to Somedays by Audioslave.....

Damn.

Unrelated, I also have Superunknown, but in a slightly different flavor - the album is called Superunknown: The Singles which came out in 2014. I hear it's pretty rare, only sold in a few select countries and all that. And get this: it's on vinyl. And I don't even own a record player!! Hah.

Man, this day sucks.

Feeling so hollow right now. I expected older musicians to go, but never in my mind that he could as well.

RIP.

Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Scott Weiland and now unexpectedly Chris Cornell.

Just when i thought this week couldn't get any worse.

For me, my obsession with console gaming and all things Chris Cornell came at the same time. I slipped my brand new Road Rash cartridge into my brand new Sega Megadrive and was hit with what is now one of my all-time favorite songs, Rusty Cage. The next day I bought Badmotorfinger.

RIP Chris, condolences to your family and friends.

Several Dozen people showed up at the Soundgarden in Magnuson Park, Seattle to pay respects to Chris Cornell.

I've been to that place a few times, it's pretty awesome. It's a sculpture aptly named 'A Sound Garden' which was dedicated to the park in 1982 and also where the band's name came from. It's a serious of 6 sculptures where an organ pipe hangs from a frame that is attached to a weather vane, when the wind blows each of the 6 sculptures emit various frequencies from the organ pipes, thus creating a garden of sound.

Seems fitting that an impromptu tribute is being held there.

I spent the entire day listening to Soundgarden and Chris' solo work. I think what's making this whole thing rather difficult is the fact Chris didn't really show the warning signs that other musicians have shown before their unfortunate, premature demise.

Soundgarden was second only to Alice in Chains when it came to 90's bands in my book and it's extremely sad to think neither of those bands will ever be seen again in their most known form.

I really wish I could say more as Chris' music has made a huge impact on my life, but since I can't find ones to properly express my feelings I'll just post a video featuring two of the greatest singers that have left us far too soon.

R.I.P. Chris, you left us far too soon, your spirit will forever live through your music though. :(

I liked soundgardens early stuff, but i wasn't a huge Chris Cornell fan. Some of that's a personal preference, I didn't care for his voice on some of his songs. Plus I was a huge Rage Against the Machine fan, so I thought Audioslave was a waste of a good band, when Rage could of been making music.

He did have tremendous talent, and is one of the greatest singers of all time, that's no doubt. It will be interesting to see what comes out, I just don't see anyone staging his hanging. I did read that he was really out of it at last nights concert, he looked disoriented on stage, was messing up, and getting frustrated.

I'll leave with one of my favorite songs he sang on with Temple of the Dog(great album by the way, Chris and Eddie Vedder made some magic)

Soundgarden was supposed to headline a music fest here in St Louis, this Saturday, they cancelled the entire show.

I mean I enjoyed Soundgarden somewhat especially later on (Avengers credit song), but what I really cared more about was Audioslave and his solo stuff. He was a great singer and really brought attention to any band he was lead in, and so when RATM broke up it was great to see the band members with essentially Cornell replacing Dela Rocha making a super group. Since Morello was a big inspiration to me learning guitar, but I enjoyed the rhythm guitar from Cornell myself.

Really sad with his passing especially as a big music fan.

This is really tragic news, I was such a huge fan. Just like @FPV MIC I first heard him on Road Rash when I was about 4, that game also had Outshined on it which is probably my favourite Soundgarden song. Then as I was older Audioslave were one of my favourite bands.
I'm gutted, not least because I never got to see him live. Two of my mates saw him on his solo acoustic tour last year and as if I wasn't jealous enough, they told me someone shouted from the crowd "Play Outshined" which he did.

The Casino Royale dude
Yes, "the Casino Royale dude".

But, more importantly, one of the leading figures in the Seattle grunge scene. He's up there with Dave Grohl and Eddie Vedder as one of the most influential artists of the 1990s. Nirvana might have been the breakout grunge act, but Soundgarden (and Mudvayne) were instrumental in defining the sound.

say what you want about Linkin Park, but that was really emotional, Chester almost lost it at the end. They were close friends iirc.

Cornell's wife and family are questioning whether it was suicide, in fact they seem downright pissed about the insinuation. They said he was taking Ativan for Anxiety and he told his wife after the show that he may have taken one or two too many pills, he was slurring his speech and sounded out of sorts.

Signs of an Ativan Overdose. Ativan is a safe drug when taken in the prescribed doses, at the recommended times. But taking large doses of this medication puts the user at risk of an overdose, which may end in coma or even death. ... When taken alone and used correctly, Ativan rarely causes unconsciousness, coma, or death.

That's odd. The official released statement is saying that he took a bit too much Ativan that his action was not under his own control.

Incredibly sad to hear about his passing, Soundgarden was one of those bands I grew up with and really got me into grunge. At least we still have some of the godfathers of grunge still alive like, Eddie Vedder, Billy Corgan, Gavin Rossdale, Kevin Martin, and Thom Yorke.

That what they said. I'm still figuring out how did they found his body on the floor.

TMZ
Cornell fastened the band to a carabiner that had been lodged into the doorframe, leaving indentation marks

Opening the door may have caused the carabiner to become dislodged or he may have fallen during the later phase of the act of suicide.

Altogether very sad.

Supercars are having a race meeting at Winton this weekend, and FOX Sports appear to be unofficially paying tribute to Cornell, playing some of his songs - particularly Audioslave's "Cochise" and "Gasoline" - during their highlights packages.

And Mudhoney, The Melivins, Screaming Trees....

Oh I could go on, not a leap to say musically this period was a great one for me.

Which is why he will be missed and why my car has had Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog on repeat.

Can't believe he's gone. He was my favourite singer. First heard him in Audioslave back in 2007-ish. The anger in those songs helped me through some crappy times, and then Soundgarden did exactly the same when I discovered them a few years later. I'm not the emotional type but this news hurt.

Rest in Peace, Chris Cornell. The world will be a darker place without you.

There's maybe a point where certain tributes really just add to a saturation that takes space and gravitas away from the ones that truly mean something. It seems like everyone's jumping on.

Counter to that vibe for me is a tribute from the band that opened for Soundgarden on their final show. I'd never heard of The Pretty Reckless, but the amount of despair-induced "ugly" in the voice, tempered with a still beautiful voice breaking through to ground the song, really got me.

I'd never heard of The Pretty Reckless
Fun fact, the lead singer Taylor Momsen is Cindy Lou in The Grinch:
