Does it really come as a surprise to anyone?

Chrysler decided not to bring any 2006 model year Crossfire roadsters or coupes to the United States due to extremely weak sales of the German-built car, according to Automotive News. Dealers reportedly have plenty of 2005 models left, and there was no need to bring over the 2006 Crossfire. Chrysler’s COO did say a 2007 model would come to the U.S., but no details on possible changes were given. The Crossfire is based on the previous-generation Mercedes SLK-Class platform, and has sold poorly due to its high price. In March, AutoExpress reported that production of the car was near being halted. Recently, Reuters reported that Chrysler would pay the company that makes the Crossfire to reduce the contracted output volume. The Leftlane Perspective: Find a way to build a news Crossfire priced against the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky. Forget the expensive Mercedes parts — the Sky and Solstice do fine without them.

I mean seriously Chrysler, how long did you think you could pull the wool over our eyes? The car is nearly as expensive as a Chevrolet Corvette, doesnt perform as well, and is based on Mercedes-Benz parts that date back to the last century... Great move guys, and think, you could have built the Firepower concept car...

I agree with the Leftlane Perspective. This car sould be small and cheap, and able to compete with the crosstown rivals at GM. Strip the car of the Mercedes do-dads, throw in some classic Chrysler bits and pieces, and sell the car for less than $30,000. If they can align the car against the Sky, it might be worth a look... But knowing DCX, they will drive the model into the ground before anything happens...

...More Chrysler news just over the wire...

Chrysler Canada CEO Steven J. Landry is pushing his American counterparts to put the Dodge Hornet Concept into production, according to a Trevor Hofmann of the Canadian Auto Press. But perhaps even more interesting is Hofmann’s report that building the Firepower Concept is among Chrysler’s top considerations. “Chrysler Group will soon remind us all once again that they’re the best in the auto,” wrote Hofmann. He said Landry told Board of Trade members that the two cars Chrysler was most seriously considering building were the Dodge Challenger Concept and the Chrysler Firepower Concept. According to the report, the Firepower could be used to replace the Crossfire. However, we suspect that the Firepower is intended as a Corvette fighter, and a Crossfire replacement will be different. In January, Chrysler USA CEO Tom LaSorda said, “Firepower is on our agenda.”

The Firepower should go ahead, it looks so much better than the Crossfire.

The Crossfire was a good car with poor execution, the only market they had were 40 year old women...think I'm joking? Look at every Crossfire and see who's driving. It's up there with the Boxter and the TT, except those two actually sold while the Crossfire didn't. When are car companies going to learn cool niche cars aren't a good idea...alla SSr.

Yes it is in the fact that only middle aged trophy wives drive them.

I feel sorry for them, the whole back end of that car just looks so wrong to me. It shouldn't be so abrupt with the sweeping down, hell, it shoulda been made into a proper saloon. I wouldn't take one even if I was given one. (Well, maybe then sell off asap and buy something more to my taste.)

I agree, it shares some of the same looks of the ME412.

You do realise that it looks totally different. The Firepower has a long hood and short back kinda like a Viper, the ME412 has a shorter front and longer looking rear.

Also the Firepower looks better than the ME412.

Exactly, and poor people can't afford a Crossfire, a Boxter, or a TT.

A Crossfire is not exactly out of reach of the average Joe. If I remember on Top Gear they tested the Crossfire cabrio with a TT and 350Z and it was in their price range.

Bill Gates isnt exactly gonna spend a small chuck of his billions to buy a Crossfire, he buys a damn Veyron if he wants, now that is unaffordable for poor people.

Anything over 30 grand is something I would consider for the wealthier crowd.

I saw that car on the june or july issue of Road and Track. it was a nice read, the article. They said it performed nicely. And is it supposed to be fast? Sorry if I missed the part where it said its faster than a 911

...If they build the Firepower, they are making an attempt to go after the Corvette and XLR by baisicly building a "soft" Viper (uses the Viper chassis) with the SRT-8 class 6.1L HEMI V8.

I hope the Crossfire is dead and the Firepower is going to be a joke. If it expects to compete with the Vette it will get creamated. And if it tries to compete with the new Camaro or Mustang it will get creamated. DCX is in a lose-lose situation. They need to make a 2dr coupe Charger and give it 500bhp. That's the only way they will compete with the Vette, GTO, and or GT500...much less ANYTHING European.

And BX, you know who drives Crossfires around these parts? 20-something yearold males, "crackers" if you will. They have their hats backwards and leaning all the way over to the middle of the car playing their rap music thinking that they are cool. They aren't and the Crossfire is one of the worst coupes ever...EVER.

I hardly ever see Crossifres here, but when I do, they are usually older males in their later 30s and early 40s.

I'm not saying it is a bad car, but I think it is awfully expensive for what you get. The one I drove was pretty nice, an early coupe with the 5-speed automatic. The performance seemed to be better than I had anticipated, granted, it is no Corvette in which the price seemingly matches.

I'm not surprised. That car had poor execution. It didn't look good, it didn't perform and now they've killed it. Good thing, in my opinion that they did kill it after all.

...They didnt kill it, yet, but the possibility of it happening is quite large judging by the story. They say it will be back for 2007, but they need to get rid of the remaining 2005 models of which are nearly two years old by now...

Interesting fact: The average time a Crossfire sits on a dealer lot before sale is nearly an entire year, by comparison cars like the Prius, etc. last less than ten.

 Bill Gates doesn't buy a Veyron, he gets himself a real "man's" car... a 959.

His personal assistant probably has one, though. :dopey:

But the crossfire is really cheap. Thtas why a bunch of northeners in scotland have one. They couldnt afford TT's so they had to make do with them, unlike the rest of the UK.

Bill gates a geek. He wouldnt say boo to a goose let alone buy a car that will scream at him if he even touches the gas pedal.

The man has a 959!, gets enough respect from me - especially since i'm a MS hater.

lol didnt know that.Gets respect from me too now.

He probably doesnt drive it, just fascinated witha ll the electronic technology it has. :lo:

OMFG NOOO!

Not the Crossfire! For the love of...

Oh wait, I forgot that I don't care.
