In a kind of side story, there is relevance to the following:

A futuristic supercar that was inspired by the dawn of the space age is tipped to sell for £950,000.
Despite its modern look, Chrysler Plymouth XNR was built in 1960 and is the only model in existence.
Its outlandish design was supposed to replicate jet aircraft and rockets, while its bright red bodywork includes an exaggerated tail fin and two side fins.
The aircraft-inspired front nacelle adds to its space age visage.

The sports roadster's three-litre, six-cylinder engine is capable of speeds of up to 150mph.
And its sleek shape is even due to be digitised and integrated into Sony Playstation's Gran Turismo GT6 game.

The unique car was once owned by the Shah of Iran before it ended up in the hands of teenage Lebanese car collector Karim Edde in 1980.
Mr Edde had to store it in an underground warehouse to protect the vehicle from the civil war that raged in Beirut.
He held onto the two-seater and in 2008 set about getting it fully restored and took it to RM Restoration in the U.S.

Mario van Raay, manager of RM Restoration, said: 'When we received the XNR the body shell was intact and, considering its history, in surprisingly good condition.
'Many original parts accompanied the XNR but our greatest challenge was the re-creation of the missing components.
'Because of the extensive information and photos available, we could not take any liberties when re-manufacturing all these components.'
The car will this weekend be sold by RM Auctions in Monterey, California. It has a pre-sale estimate of $950,000.

And? Ever since GT5 was released, it was clear that the Polyphony/GT Award winners at the Pebble Beach show were getting their cars digitized, so this isn't really a surprise.

More of a re-affirmation, if anything.

To my knowledge though, Kaz never actually stated that it would definately be in GT5/6, it was more of a "it would be nice for the car to be in the series" sorta comment.....

Anyway, any confirmation / re-affirmation for anything not previously seen in GT is always going to be a good thing :D

Nothing wrong with some extra proof, and it looks fantastic in those pics. Can't wait to buy/drive it, although I have a feeling it may be quite expensive!! :nervous:

This thread needs some clips if only to hear the glorious sound it produces and understand the context perhaps.

As for the looks, I wouldn't call it conventionally attractive or a timeless beauty at all, but it sure looks interesting and has some nice details.
That cockpit for example looks absolutely stunning.

I thought this had been confirmed before? Anyway thanks for posting the pictures the others I've seen are not exactly flattering, I'm actually starting to like this car now :D

Awesome! I really hope PD continues to add more classic (obscure ones and more iconic ones) cars to the series, as I play this game for the car porn just as much as the physics.

Does anyone know the 2012 GT award winner?

Not yet, Jordan is usually pretty on-the-spot about posting that news, so keep checking back and it'll be on the news page by tomorrow I reckon.

I have seen the stream of the show and it should be this car. I also made a screenshot.

I think it's a good choice and it's also an almost unique model, only two should exist.

EDIT: some info and photos of the car

Four cylinder Ferrari? Stay classy Yamauchi-san.

But seriously, that is a pretty nice and unique car, it'll be awesome to see it in GT if it wins. Especially since there are only two and they're rarely seen.

Umm, wasn't this confirmed last year? Old news?

The Plymouth was although it is nice to see additional proof and also some more pictures of it. The Ferrari hasn't been confirmed officially yet but that looks like a very interesting (and beautiful) addition to the game!
