EDIT: SOLVED

Okay I made an account just to post this here... But I'm having extreme difficulty getting Gold in the One-Lap-Challenge on Fishermans Ranch! I can get within 2-3 seconds, but even with that it feels like I have to have a perfect run! None of the other challenges so far have been this hard... I'm using a logitech G29 wheel. I haven't played online yet, but I have all golds in Driving School, and I'm currently all-gold up to Mission Challenge Stage 8-4. I'm mentioning this as I have a decent amount of skill level. I couldn't find any help on this anywhere! My settings are currently attached below. (Traction control is set to 1)

Other than the cars moving about a bit more on gravel, the principles for going quickly remain the same... lines and exit speed.

Use ABS default. Don't use traction control - it slows you down too much. Don't know if CSA helps as I don't use it on rally (like to feel the rear of the car moving around as it helps steer the car)... you could try it. Try a rear brake balance in the settings (3-4 to the rear).

You'll need to brake early, get the car tuned in so you can accelerate as early as possible... avoid wall/AI contact at all costs. Use ALL the track right up to the barriers. The car has lots of torque and quite low gearing, so you can often be a gear higher than you think. And you can short shift with little penalty. Another tip on the tight switch backs is to over-slide the car out of one corner, then lift/brake so the rear snaps back the other way and points the car in to the next corner.

I re-ran this one at the weekend, and the target time is pretty comfortable - I think I was 22 seconds inside it on my 2nd attempt, and I was driving the car sideways a lot, which isn't the fastest technique in GT rally.

Indeed because of the high torque, try to be gentle with the throttle. Indeed both stopping, accellerating and turning (to avoid lots of 'rally' sliding) need to be more gentle in these low grip tracks than normal racing.

The rally challenges did prove to be an annoying part of Driving School. Strange how the similar formula of Sierra Time Rally in GT6 which was great fun is spoiled here.

I'm guessing this is the one where when you watch the youtube video to see how to do it, it shows a time 9 seconds higher for gold, than is required by the current game.
I thought I was on an impossible mission, it took many attempts for me to do it, I played about with torque balance, brake balance, in the end I just took a tea break and came back to it and completed it with the stock car torque and brake.
It didn't help that my G29 was making noises like it was going to explode.

Does this one allow tuning?

If so...

Set torque split to 50:50
Add max downforce
Set front and rear toe to 0
Set LSD to f 10/20/5 r 10/20/5

Will make the car turn better and give better exit traction.

Turn off TC!
Change settings sheet to road then back to dirt and change transmission to full (mind gone blank).
Sorted.

Turning off TC makes a big difference when accelerating out of all those tight corners. That would be my main tip.
And brake much earlier than you do on track.

Tuning isn't allowed but torque split is adjustable in the race menue. 50 : 50 is a very good advice 👍.

OKAY so I'm back with an update that is to say I passed it! Barely... I turned TC off but it didn't seem to make a huge difference as it was only barely on. I actually tried turning it back off for circuits but I couldn't control the cars anymore so I put it back on the default 3. XD I didn't change the TS as I didn't realize it was changable. As for what I have left it just leaves Nurburgring, and Mission Challenges Stage 8-5 and above. I'm dreading the rally endurance -_-. Anyway I have linked a youtube video of my attempt, I would appreciate any tips, but otherwise thanks! I will probably post here in the future. OH and in case you hadn't assumed I'm always in auto-transmission.

ah, that's not the one I was thinking of, I have x:06 in my mind that needed to be beat for gold, and there were cars on the track 'getting in the way' at all the wrong moments.

Nice job ticking it off though.

Yeah that was in mission challenge. I did that my second attempt. I actually used my steering wheel, and the X/O buttons on the controller in my otherhand XD. (pedals are very jumpy in rally andwith other cars it drove me nuts)

Try to drive as if you're just on a wet version of a mountain-like course. I used zero aids other than ABS Default and was able to gold relatively easily. Also should be noted you don't have to always pass on the inside, as the AI tends to be slow enough where outside isn't an issue.

Put TCS on 2 as opposed to 3 for track cars that you can't handle....

You are really gonna enjoy the nurburgring lap challenge. The sections are easy but the whole lap is tricky. Just try and take it slow and keep it on the track.the one lap attack took me a good hour as I kept messing up

For this, i set 50/50, TCS 0, default brake balance. To get the car to turn in better drop a gear, then point the nose at the exit, shift back up and it will pull you out of the corners.

I've been hammering away at the one lap challenge! Still can't finish more than my first. 18 secs off xD

I've got gold on all circuit experience except the full lap of Nordschleife. So annoying! Last time I was 1.5 seconds over ffs
