When it comes to EV performance, Tesla continues to set new benchmarks. That hasn't stopped start-up firms from trying to take on Tesla. Enter the Elextra, a blisteringly-fast, four-seater electric supercar currently in development by Switzerland-based start-up Classic Factory. First teased last year, Classic Factory claims the Elextra will hit 0-62 mph in less than 2.3 seconds. Production is expected to be limited to 150 cars, and while we haven't yet seen proof of its performance in any video demonstrations, a prototype is due to be shown in 2020.

In the meantime, Classic Factory has shared some new details about its electric supercar. According to the start-up, the Elextra will introduce an all-new, "revolutionary" electric drivetrain, with technology that enables the car to keep the same power output while halving the size of the electric motors. This new technology also prevents overheating issues as it doesn't need any additional cooling systems. Classic Factory is partnering with an unannounced company based near Munich in Germany to develop the new drivetrain, while the car's chassis and body will be engineered in Stuttgart.

The Elextra will be hand-built near Stuttgart by "one of the world's leading companies specialized in low-volume manufacturing with the highest quality. Elextra will be the very first vehicle in the world to use this new drivetrain technology, placing Elextra in a class of its own," said Designer and CEO Robert Palm: "Our aim is not just delivering yet another electric supercar on the market – Elextra will also be a showcase for radically new thinking in this field." The electric supercar will be built around a strong carbon fiber tub, which the Classic Factory says is nearly 25 percent lighter than conventional aluminium constructions.

Power will be provided by two electric motors producing a combined output of 680 hp, enabling the Elextra to hit 0-62 mph in 2.3 seconds and reach a limited top speed of 155 mph while providing a range of up to 374 miles. More information about the Elextra will be revealed throughout this year. Classic Factory says that "investors are welcome to come forward for open opportunities."
