That is a serious amount of work. Yeah, it would be more fair or whatever, but I really don't think it would ever change the outcome of one of these competitions.
And I am really irritated and disgusted with the way people have voted in this weeks poll. Not because I have not received any votes, (because I did not even submit entry) but just with some of the shots that have the number of votes that they do. It's disappointing. The value of these competitions are going down for me. It's just not worth it. That's all I can say.
yeah i know it would be a god bit more work involved than the existing comps, but it would still be nice to do it as a one off special competition.
agree with the second part of your post, but thats the thing with polls that are open to everyone to vote, your thoughts as to what are the top 3 shots and what should be possible winners will vary to someone else's or maybe even mine. Of course now there is a possibility that people with a good knowledge in photography/taking photos will have a similar top 3 for example, as they will know what to look for that makes something a 'winners shot'.
But maybe i'm wrong here, but in my opinion one of the things that may be an issue here is the themes in some of the competitions are 'open' so it all depends on peoples own take on the theme, even the theme for this poll 'Japan' is vague, yeah it has to be a japanese car and location, but if you make it an more specific it may restrict or reduce the amount of entries for the competition, which might not be the best thing.
An example of what i mean using 2 of this weeks poll entries:
*sorry for using these pics, i'm not attempting to affect possible votes for anyone here, only to explain a point
Exhibit A:
Exhibit B:
Ok so A is a Japanese car...check, Japanese location.....ummm, check!
And then there is B, Japanese car...check, Japanese location.....check!
my thoughts, A it may be on a Japanese track but because of the angle of the shot it could be a corner on any number of tracks? and B the location is better as it captures the theme 'Japan' with the writing you can see in the shot and the background behind the car.
so technically B would be my obvious choice from the two. When voting on a poll like this one of the main things i think people should have in there mind is what 'capture' the theme the best. Obviously it maybe harder to apply this depending on the theme.
No offence to the 3 people that voted for A so far, but it would also make me think that they voted for it because either A) they like that car or B) they are good friends with the person that took the shot.
So similar to what 440 CHARGER said, I'm struggling to figure out how some of the shots in the poll have the votes they do
