I make the advanced competition, but not this one? That's surprising. I'm not the best photo editor. I didn't spend much time on my entry for this competition anyway.

I don't really like any of these entries. :/

I didn't make the poll either?
:confused::boggled::confused:

Any feedback / constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.

Guess all I can do is try again the next competition.

Peace...

Well, I'm surprised I made the poll for this but not the CCCL comp. I was much happier with my shot of the evo than my FGT's.

But I voted for mog's shot. Excellent use of a wide angle to convey almost "cartoony" speed.

First of all, thanks for all the participants for entering last week's comp. We have some nice and interesting entries. It's a shame that the premium F1 cars cost so much that might have limited the number of entires, and that the PSN has been down with the in-game sharing feature didn't help either.

So the poll is up and I am sure people may or may not agree with the selections. So I will try my best to explain my filtering process. The things that I was looking for in this competition were:

- Artistry (composition, contrast, tone etc.)
- Creativity
- Theme matching (for an F1 theme, I expected to see good sense of speed, heated battle, etc.)
- and lastly, Overall look and feel (particularly when picking the last couple spots for the poll. In the end it all came down to if I liked the image or not. In other words, personal taste.)

If an image incorporated one or more of the above it had a better chance to make the poll. I want it to be a constructive experience for you and myself. If you want more feedback on why your entry did or didn't make it, let me know and I will try to answer it.

I feel, I have ticked the first two areas. However the idea, behind my shot was to do a press release shot.

3 outta 3 polls... geez I'm stoked, doin something right I guess. Very subjective this poll... baffled why some didnt make it, not my call though. Still well done to everyone that made it this far. 👍

TVR&FF, I found your entry has little overall color variation, and a bit too closeup on a not so appealing part of the car. A closeup shot like this on a "premium" model I would expect it to look realistic and yet yours focused on the jaggy polygons, which bugged me a bit. It's definitely artsy, and very "you". Almost made it. In fact, I much preferred your other similar shot you rejected in your gallery. That one would have made it, I'm afraid. :indiff:

strngz - I guess I just wasn't sure the intention of the shot. It looked like you wanted to capture a still image of the car and yet it appeared to be moving very slowly. I also thought the background was a bit plain.

yellomello - your preview image was larger than the rule specified. So it was not being considered.

In my view not every close up shot, works as a realstic shot. Plus if you are aiming for realism in a stock shot, then you start to lose contrast and character in my view. But on the whole I feel you cannot have shot with the following:

*Realism
*Artistic

Along with that the other aim of my shot, was to use depth of field in a artistic manner. Because if I used the depth of field somewhere else, then the shot would not be unique and better looking.

----

My final thoughts:

Thanks for going a lot more in depth.

I was after a crisp, relatively realistic and detailed shot of driver action.
(I thought it was rather cool to be able to simultaneously capture the car's front wheels mid-turn and the driver's hand moving the steering wheel, and the inspiration of "the driver and the car together in action" became the picture's concept.)
In order to obtain that level of detail, I got in very close, used a pretty low focal length and a relatively high aperture setting. Shutter speed was average to balance an element of motion but reduce blur, although coming out of the first chicane at Monza the first time driving the F2007 I was already going a little slower than I needed to.

I really do think it is a picture that has successful artistic (compositional), creative, and thematic elements presented, but it appears I feel short in conveying it. From your feedback and review of the pictures that did make the poll, I guess it probably is because it is too "clean" and "singularly focused" a picture on that one detail element.

I appreciate the response, and look forward to the fruits of the learning experience that this competition ended up becoming.

Peace...

Oh well, while we're asking for critique I might as well throw mine in.

The idea behind my shot was to focus on a battle down the field a little with the two cars battling for the line into a corner whilst in the foreground you see the leader pulling away from the corner.

Nato, I totally get the idea behind the image. It was the framing of the picture that didn't quite appeal to me. I don't have any solid suggestions, but maybe if it showed just a bit more track it might have worked, IMHO. Neat idea nonetheless.

Fair enough thanks, I totally respect your choices. Good luck to all who made it to the poll.

I for once knew mine wasn't getting through. Forgot to adjust my panning mode... :boggled:

It seems I can fairly consistently make the polls but garner very few votes. :embarrassed: Tough sometimes to keep on the theme yet give the shot that element that is going to make it popular to a wider audience. Much respect to those that do it better than me. 👍 I shall learn yet!

Seriously how about congratulating everyone that made instead of sulking because you didn't. 1st post in this thread has done nothing spoiled it for all the people that did make it 👎
