Cold Tires

Has PD confirmed anywhere that after you pit for a new set of tires during your outlap your tires are cold? The heat indicator only ever shows when you're spinning them and doesn't show overall temperature. However I definitely feel that the tires have less grip for the first little while. Turn 1 especially after a pit.

Am I crazy?

Yeah I too could almost swear it seems like the grip isn’t quite as much when first getting new tyres put on and exiting the pits too for a few corners. But due to the lack of a tyre temp display, I can’t say for certain.

I’d hope that tyre temps are indeed being simulated and factored into calculations with the tyre model, in the background somewhere. If this is the case, it would be great to have a HUD element that let us see the temps and not just the red outline that shows when you’re spinning certain tyres, like currently.

During the nations cup , i've felt a kind of reduced cold tires grip during the first part of Dragon Trail - Gardens out of the pit stop till turn 4 (hairpin).
I did 2 nations races yesterday on my EU account and , main Americas account and i've felt this the 2 times. Still a good grip but with a few less , let's say 1/3 under racing hard and sport soft.

I feel like this is very true. I am always faster on my second lap, regardless of tire wear or not. I also feel like in races with tire wear, I am faster for 2-4 laps AFTER fresh tires, maybe I'm just good with dealing with tire wear, or it's the tire temp going up.

I'm pretty sure that cold tyre is simmulated in the game, but only on race C. But its realy not understandable that its not indicated.

Except of this, I also don't get why the car-perfomance between qualifying and racing in race C is that much different. You need to learn the braking points again in the race.

In qualy for race c, tire/fuel wear is turned off. When this is the case, the car fuel tank is considered empty. When you race, the tank is full so you don't have the same performance, you are carrying more weight in the race

Do you think it's considered empty? I find it the other way around and is full. I can often run quicker laps if i do a long 1st stint and then have fresh tyres with little fuel then i can in qualifying.

The other thing i perceive is that 100% life on tyres with tyre wear is not the same as no tyre wear.

As this is all subjective i have devised an objective test.

Run laps with no tyres / fuel
Run laps with only fuel usage.
Run laps with only tyre usage.

Anyone care to test? :)

Later- I'll use the Evo IV at Yamagiwa

Yes it has been this way since GT5 at least. If you are running quicker laps than in qualifying during the race, you should be able to go back to qualifying and run even faster. I think you are not getting the most out of your qualifying if this is the case, or are only doing a handful of laps, and by the time you have pitted, you are more familiar with the track and producing faster times

I did a couple of laps without fuel/tire usage and ended with a 1:52.352
Here's where it gets interesting:

Lap 1 was a 4 minute outlap at 60-120km/h to not scrub the tires

At tire wear x10, my lap times weren't the best from the get go. It built up from 1:53 to eventually a 1:52.138- A noticeable difference to my no tire wear best lap of 1:52.352. Here's the weirder part: throughout laps 5-7, I was consistently running 1:53s. The gap between lap 5 and lap 7 was only a little over 1/10ths. And then in laps 8-10, a steep drop in pace occurred and all of a sudden I'm now running constant 1:55s. This was way out of what I expected and honestly, I don't know what to make of it. What do you guys think?

I've driven a lot of miles in GTS in both Road Cars & Race Cars and cold tires are very noticeable to me. Takes about a half lap to get them up to full grip. It's strange others seem not to notice this because there is a big difference to me.

Hey I think we raced together yesterday a few times on Daily Race Le Mans, I tried to ask if you were on GTP but you left the lobby :)
