Colin McRae 3 - quick comments

Ok - rented this tonight.

Disappointed - looks okay and moves pretty well, handling's okay - but if you've got WRC and CMR2 for the PC, it's nothing you haven't driven or seen before.

There are some nice touches - you can get a lot further into the environments, and hit interesting things like tractors, and it's nice to see hitting the red and white striped plastic ribbons defining the course isn't the same as hitting a tree - you sail straight through them, much like you would in real life, straight into that rock behind the ribbon.

Bad news if you have a GT Force wheel - whilst the wheel works, you'll be changing gears with the A & B buttons on the front of the wheel (no paddles for you), and you have to remember to select the options to start the stage with the wheel buttons, otherwise it's the DS2 for you. Pain in the arse.

Tip - get CMR2 for your high end PC, or wait for WRC2 Extreme.

Disappointing - this and TOCA suggest to me Codemasters are off their game at the moment - hopefully the PC versions are better.

Heh I thought I would wait for you to splash out on this , I dont think this will be an essential purchase at all. I think WRC2 shall be purchased instead.

Maybe I should rent it also, haven rented a game in aaages. Is it hard because I found that CMR2 was quite easy. I regret not buying WRC and saying ill wait for colin Mcrae 3 to come out.

Actually, I got pretty lucky with the rental - we had to join a new video library, and they have a good video games section - they had three copies, and CMR3 was out today.

Video Ezy at Gladesville. I was split between that, Burnout 2 and NFS. I might try Burnout 2 tonight.

hey. i rented it out I have rented hp 2, would've rented again if i hadn't seen this thread, own burnout 2 which is ok.

My thoughts:
It is quite good and i like the fact that there is no map because it makes the game more realistic. the handling is ok (could be better) and the ai is great :thumbsup:

oh and btw, did you play WRC II at the motorshow It was the worst game i have ever played. the handling was SO unrealistic. It had better been the beta. anyway, i won't rent anything next week because VICE CITY! (8th)

Listen up - I'm not a Colin fan, but I tried the demo, loved it more then WRC2 and I'm getting ot for Christmas as my first Colin McRae and first PS2 rally title. Aye.

is CMR3 that bad is it a waist of money to buy it. i live in the states and i have been pulling my hair because we haqven't got the game yet and here you guys come out and say it is a dissapointment, help me out here guys!!!!
WRCII won't be here any soon and i am aching for a rally game, already got V-Rally3 ( not bad)agggggggggggggaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

It's not actually bad - I was just expecting a lot more from it. Codemasters don't seem to quite have the PS2 mastered yet.

If you don't have a good spec PC to run CMR2 and aren't going to get WRCII for a while, it's worth a look.

Well, some games :cd: I buy instantly and have pre-ordered for release day:

But with CMR3 I was unsure after seeing the videos online :tv: and so just rented it :2cents: and was highly dissappointed, couldn't get my GT Logitech to work :rscared:

Thought the interaction with other objects was good in some areas yet pathetic in others (You could crash into a gate and it would dent, but hit a truck and it sits like a rock )

Codemasters obviously spent more time :clock: on toca than CM?

I doubt it, seeing that toca looks worse and had dodgy handling.

I think ill rent this one as well.
