Colin McRae will live a personal dream when he embarks on his first Paris-Dakar rally at the wheel of a Nissan in January.

"It's something I've always wanted to do," the Scot said. "I always enjoyed the Safari, especially the old Safaris, an event where you could pace yourself, but it's very much a learning year for me."

The 35-year-old was speaking in Paris as Nissan presented a strong team for the January 1-18 event which starts in the Auvergne region. "I am looking forward to showing what I can do in a different type of rallying," McRae added.

The Scot has not been retained by Citroen for next season's world championship but is among the favourites to take over from Richard Burns at Subaru next season, as his compatriot will not be able to compete because of a recently diagnosed brain tumour.

The Dakar rally finishes just five days before the world championship season starts, however, and McRae would not be able to test with Subaru after coming straight out of the African race.

"At the moment I'm only thinking about Paris-Dakar and Richard," McRae said. "It's a very cruel world sometimes and this sort of thing is a big shock. I really hope Richard can make a full and speedy recovery."

He's currently running in sixth position at the moment.

Probaly not but the mag say's that...I think Ill check right now. Ok here it is. It say's Mcrae is concidering everything from Paris-Dakar rally to Le mans and Bathurst.

I've got to admit, it would be good to see a rally driver actually looking after the car. Although I personally wouldn't trust McRea (McWreck) with a Le Mans car.

He did (eventually) get the Nissan home didnt he? So why not give him a shot at Le Mans or Bathurst

He could do it but I don't know if he will do it, I hope so it would be good to see how good he is in a Le mans car or a commadore, falcon or a nation's cup car.
