GTPlanet, it's time for another week of college basketball for both men and women. It also brings me great pleasure to not only open a new week of scoring, but to also celebrate my 23rd birthday on January 15. Getting older, but getting wiser. So let's see how America's college-bound youth is ready for college hoops. But first, a look at last week's action.

LAST WEEK:
* Saturday's games were insane. Duke, Florida, and Villanova all seen action. They were all undefeated and had tall orders ahead of each team. * Duke had Clemson and held on despite Clemson hanging in there. * Florida had Auburn and smashed the Auburn Tigers. Would have been a closer game if this was football. * Villanova was unlucky against the Texas Longhorns. The thing that made this game different from Villanova was that Texas/Villanova was a non-conference game. Texas hooked Villanova real good, sending a message to the Big East. I predicted this upset would happen, and it did.

* It was a bad Saturday for North Carolina, Kansas, and Kentucky. * I predicted to myself that Miami would upset North Carolina, and it happened. Miami gets their first win at UNC's home court in school history. * Kansas State isn't really the best Big XII North team, but they showed Kansas who rules the state of Kansas among Big XII teams. * More sad news for the Lexington boys as the Kentucky Wildcats lost by four to Alabama. For many disappointed fans, this is only making things worse in terms of "get Tubby Smith out!" Courtesy of FoolKiller, the Kentucky boys have lost two straight for the first time in four years. How long was it until Kentucky lost three or more? Before the losing streak, they were 10-3, now 10-6 and flirting with very low NCAA tourney hopes. Perhaps even the NIT. * North Carolina, Kansas, and Kentucky all lost at home on the same day for the first time ever. These are three storied programs, and all three fell. What would have been worse would be North Carolina, Duke, and Connecticut (maybe even Tennessee too) all losing in the same night.

Wicked stuff, no? Very well. Do you love college basketball? Well, I normally don't do Sunday scores because that's times that I use to talk about last week or look forward to the new week. As a special note, I will be doing ONLY basketball from HBCUs (Historically-Black Colleges and Universities) in honor of one of my personal heroes- Dr. Martin Luther King on Monday. There will be other scores, but I want to dedicate tomorrow's scores to HBCUs in basketball. As far as Sunday goes, I'll select a few games from Sunday which will lead to all the big winners. I'll select a few games now, so let's do the Sunday Sampler.

SUNDAY SAMPLER
---Men---
* Illinois-Chicago at Loyola UC (71-65; LOYOLA UC)
* Pittsburgh at Louisville (61-57; Pittsburgh)
* Vermont at Maine (85-82, OT; MAINE)
---Women---
* #4 North Carolina at #25(?) North Carolina State (32-2?; North Carolina)
* Rice at Houston ---RIVALRY GAME--- (79-72; HOUSTON)
* #5 Baylor at Texas Tech (64-62; TEXAS TECH) * upset! *
* Tennessee at Mississippi State (79-56; Tennessee)
Vander

DID YOU KNOW...
...that Loyola UC were National Champions back in 1963? They downed (then) two-time National Champions, Cincinatti with the championship game played at Louisville's Freedom Hall.
...that Mississippi State's Women's Team is 0-25 all-time against Tennessee?
...that the Tennessee Lady Volunteers coach, Pat Summit, has 899 wins now? They got rivals Vanderbilt on Thursday. With this win, Pat Summit has a chance at 900 wins and 17 or 18 wins on the season.

It's another week. You'll see results when I update this thread and my signature. If I didn't update the signature information, assume that I've either already posted results, or that I simply didn't include any updates daily.

I'll be heading back to school this week for about 16 more weeks, so I'll have to do school and these reports. Until then, let's do hoops? No. Let's do MORE hoops! And happy birthday to me!

* More sad news for the Lexington boys as the Kentucky Wildcats lost by four to Alabama. For many disappointed fans, this is only making things worse in terms of "get Tubby Smith out!" The last time Kentucky lost three straight games was December of 1999, Six years!

Tubby still has more fans than haters in the bluegrass. Most of the haters have been that way since day one, but most have found a way to slide race into the equation. It was usually something along the lines of how he would only recruit black players. That has been disproven constantly with 1/3 of the team being white. Despite that they have always been around but quiet. Now they are getting louder and more obvious, as is apparent by the Fire Tubby Smith website.

The haters are slowly gaining voices and if Tubby isn't careful he will learn just how finicky us Cat fans can be. If they don't make the tourney he can only hope for one more year to show that it was a fluke.

I currently stand by teh team and the coach, but I am seeing a lot of problems that can be attributted to coaching. Also if rumors of practices are to be believed he the coaching staff spends more time lecturing than practicing.

Tubby, beware. Your job is at stake.

EDIT: JohnBM01, happy birthday! I wasn't on to wish it earlier.

MONDAY'S GAMES

HBCU Basketball Special
GTPlanet, since this is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I will begin with a few games.

-MEN'S GAMES-
* Alcorn State at Arkansas-Pine Bluff (74-48; ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF)
* Delaware State at Maryland-Eastern Shore (70-67; Delaware State)
* Stillman at Tuskegee (64-54; Stillman)
* Norfolk State at Morgan State (81-53; Norfolk State)

* Texas Southern at Jackson State
We got SWAC action as my hometown team meets Jackson State. Texas Southern University is only a mile or two away from the University of Houston. Continuing with SWAC hoops, we have two Tiger teams. But which Tigers ruled tonight- Texas Southern's kittens, or Jackson State's kitties? Meow! Let's do this, player. Jackson State were the better team, and the better Tigers too. The last game was a blowout, but this game is more fierce than the previous game. (-; JACKSON STATE)

* Bethune-Cookman at North Carolina A&T
North Carolina A&T's Aggies snap 15-game losing skid by beating the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. (69-67; NORTH CAROLINA A&T)

-WOMEN'S GAMES/RAPID FIRE-
* Delaware State at Maryland-Eastern Shore (??-??; Delaware State)

HBCU Basketball Special - End

Now, on to other games played on Monday.

MEN'S DIVISION
* Kansas at Missouri ---RIVALRY GAME---
Two Big XII teams are ready to go... and they DO NOT like each other. This is a personal rivalry between two teams.(-; )

* Oakland at Western Illinois
Golden Grizzlies fans, Oakland University basketball is taking a little road show. Root on your boys to perhaps another NCAA tournament bid. To do it, the Golden Grizzlies will need to keep up the winning and tone down the losing. Except against teams like Marquette or somebody, Oakland's losses have been determined in pretty close margins. If a team loses by less than 6 or 10, is it a case of one team not finishing the job, or the other team doing everything they had to do to win? Regardless, Western Illinois' Leathernecks were stunned by the all-motor horsepower of Oakland. See? I told you Oakland can do better. (76-64; Oakland)

* Jacksonville at Kennesaw State
Fish from Florida and fowl from Georgia coming up. A school of fish leaped from out the water to Georgia. Dolphins don't have wings, but Jacksonville's Dolphins have wings. Wings to hope they'll dunk buckets and slam-jams. D1 newcomers Kennesaw State have real wings because the Owls don't take any crap. And speaking of crap... Jacksonville got crapped on pretty bad. Jacksonville has only won one game this season. Even a team like Coppin State is doing better. But, big win for those Owls. (-; KENNESAW STATE)

* Northern Colorado at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
I'd want to say both teams are Independents, but I'm not sure. Especially not sure of Northern Colorado. You see in football, there are about 119 Div. 1-A schools, then maybe 79-90 Div. 1-AA teams. In Division 1 basketball, there are over 326 teams. It's tough keeping up with all the teams, especially if you're wanting to see how all of America's D1 teams play hoops. Northern Colorado has done... kind of bad. Any win for them is a win the Bears will take. Just because a team is an Independent doesn't mean they are a lock for being defeated easily. (-; )

RAPID FIRE:
* Stetson at Lipscomb (57-52; LIPSCOMB)
* Texas Pan-American at Texas State (79-62; Texas Pan-American)
* Wofford at The Citadel (67-52; Wofford)
* Akron at Clevland State (62-50; Akron)
* Dartmouth at New Hampshire (71-59; NEW HAMPSHIRE)
* Evansville at Illinois State (65-57; ILLINOIS STATE)
* Mercer at Belmont (96-60; BELMONT)
* Murray State at Eastern Illinois (59-54; EASTERN ILLINOIS)
* Tennessee Tech at Austin Peay (79-75; Tennessee Tech)
* Western Carolina at North Carolina-Greensboro (87-76; Western Carolina)
* Lafayette at Pennsylvania (105-73; PENNSYLVANIA)
* Loyola Marymount at Gonzaga (92-80; GONZAGA)
* Connecticut at Syracuse (88-80; Connecticut)
* Pepperdine at Portland (84-82, OT; PORTLAND)

WOMEN'S DIVISION

RAPID FIRE:
* Holy Cross at Duke (86-34; Duke)
* Wright State at Detroit (68-59; DETROIT)
* Hampton at Coppin State (65-48; COPPIN STATE)
* Florida State at Maryland (65-57; MARYLAND)
* Virginia at Virginia Tech (78-59; Virginia)

I'd like to end this post by talking about Kentucky at Georgia. You know, I would say that Kentucky would smash Georgia. Last year, the Bulldogs won nine games total and went to nobody's tournament. They're looking real good right now, so this could be a challenge. I'd still give the edge to Kentucky, but considering how college basketball is, you may never know for sure. If Kentucky wins, there's reason for Lexington to celebrate. If Georgia wins, Kentucky will be like "we lose... to GEORGIA?" A lot could be on the line, other than pride. I'll update this thread with Tuesday's results when I get a chance.

TUESDAY'S GAMES
GTPlanet, we'll begin with rivals. Louisville will be playing in one of my favorite American cities- New York City to meet St. John's, and Kentucky is going down to Athens, GA to meet an improved Georgia team.

MEN'S DIVISION
"Dribbling on Thin Ice" Kentucky at Georgia
The wonderful Brad Nessler calls this ESPN game, so let's meet the two combatants. Get your blue on, player! Tubby Smith brought his boys to head into Athens, GA to take down Georgia and get their first win after losing three straight. Losing is something Kentucky isn't used to, and the Wildcats can extend that. If they drop this game, they will have been on a four-game losing streak, the first time they drop four straight since 1989-1990. Georgia is the red team here. Their nickname is the Bulldogs, but they'd might as well be sharks. They smelled blood of Kentucky losing and wanted to cash in on further embarassing the wild kittens from Lexington. Good news for Kentucky fans... they led 35-32 over Georgia at the half. This is good, but winning is better, right? You can lead by 100, but if you can't put a team away, it doesn't matter. They've been losing, they've been losing, they've been losing... and Heaven opened its golden gates to Kentucky. They hold on, leaving Kentucky fans happy and get thier first SEC win. Let's see if they can return to their winning ways and make a lot of noise to the nation. "We are Wildcats, hear us roar!" Good job, Kentucky. (69-55; Kentucky)

"Kings of Queens" #15 Louisville at St. John's (Madison Square Garden; New York City, NY)
GTPlanet, we're heading to New York City through the medium of the Internet. You're logged on to see if Louisville can further embarass St. John's so-so season. The Louisville Cardinals come from the Bluegrass State, but these boys wear Cardinal Red. These boys are heading into Queens to meet St. John's. St. John's University is a Christian (or Catholic?) university in the greater New York City area. The boys from Queens are playing in historic Madison Square Garden. The weathermen weren't predicting the Red Storm to rain all over Louisville. It could happen, though. Taquan Dean didn't see action, so the rest of his boys are trying to defend against the pride of New York City, St. John's. As it turned out, St. John's was sick of being hated on and told they can't make noise in the Big East or the nation. They let Louisville know what time it is. They had to dig St. John's because this was embarassing if you're a Cardinal fan. (68-56; ST. JOHN'S)

* Illinois at Indiana
Illinois lost to Iowa earlier in Big Ten play, and their woes continue in Bloomington. The Hoosiers of Indiana stunned Illinois's Fighting Illini. (62-60; INDIANA)

* Iowa State at Nebraska
Iowa State's Cyclones ripped a big win in Cornhusker country. (88-72; Iowa State)

* Texas Tech at Texas ---RIVALRY GAME---
It's the rivalry of Austin and Lubbock. The Longhorns hooked Villanova real good. Texas Tech's been COMPLETELY less than stellar this year. The Red Raiders were seeing burnt orange... ALL GAME LONG! This was a beatdown and a disappointment for Texas Tech. (80-46; TEXAS)

* Niagara at Canisius
It looks like the Niagara Purple Eagles weren't mythical creatures, but they surely made the Canisius Golden Griffins into extinction. (93-84; Niagara)

* Seton Hall at Villanova
Villanova's Wildcats downed the Seton Hall Pirates in an effort to rebound from their Texas loss. (73-64; VILLANOVA)

* Charlotte at Saint Joseph's
The Hawks of Saint Joseph's took a crushing blow by the Charlotte 49ers. (57-50; Charlotte)

* #23 Boston College at Holy Cross
Boston College's Eagles avoid embarassment by downing the Holy Cross Crusaders. (63-53; Boston College)

* Providence at West Virginia
Providence may not ever return to prominence with a loss like this as West Virginia's Mountanieers fried the Friars. No, REALLY. (64-48; WEST VIRGINIA)

* Marquette at DePaul
The Blue Demons were covered in gold as Marquette's Golden Eagles finished them off by 3. (82-79; Marquette)

---None of today's/tonight's Men Games went into Overtime. For more scores, look to:
http://www.ncaasports.com/basketball/mens/scoreboard

WOMEN'S DIVISION

* Niagara at Canisius
Niagara won the Men's game, but the Lady Purple Eagles were stunned by the Canisius Lady Golden Griffins. (71-54; CANISIUS)

* Kent State at Miami (Ohio)
The Lady Redhawks fell short in Overtime to the Kent State Lady Golden Flashes. (83-78; Kent State)

* Texas Pan-American at Utah Valley State
This is a nice win. The Utah Valley State Lady Wolverines defeated the Lady Broncs of Texas-Pan American. (73-67; UTAH VALLEY STATE)

* DePaul at Notre Dame
The Lady Blue Demons of DePaul University are a good team. Unfortunately, Notre Dame's Fighting Lady Irish were better. I'd say this was a big win for ND. (78-75; NOTRE DAME)

JohnBM01
"We are Wildcats, hear us roar!" Good job, Kentucky. (69-55; Kentucky)
Hell yeah!!! That's what I like to hear! Unfortunatley it required Tubby Smith hiring a sports psychologist. I didn't even know that was a job.
As it turned out, St. John's was sick of being hated on and told they can't make noise in the Big East or the nation. They let Louisville know what time it is. They had to dig St. John's because this was embarassing if you're a Cardinal fan. (68-56; ST. JOHN'S)
It was a good night all around for us Cats fans. That is unless you are one of those "I cheer for Louisville except for when they play Kentucky" people. :yuck:

WEDNESDAY'S GAMES
The game you see in deep sky blue, this is something I may start doing. If I update my signature with some game information, then the game in question will be highlighted in a certain color. So be sure to take a look.

MEN'S DIVISION
* North Carolina State at Duke
Duke's playing in North Carolina against a North Carolina school. Not the boys from Chapel Hill (not yet!), but the boys from Raleigh. The boys whose football team is coached by Joe Amato. Duke and NC State. Cameron, NC is home to Duke University, a small school which is anything but small with the basketball following. Until their football team can avoid sucking, all we care about is Blue Devils basketball. Many of you younger people may have the same age as Duke's winning streak, because they are flirting with 17-0. North Carolina State's boys are looking to rip into that streak. They want to sneak up on that winning streak and maliciously rip into it and kill it. That's what a pack of wolves can do, and that's what the NC State Wolfpack can be capable of. Just not tonight, as Duke pulled it off down the stretch. You can think of this win as a (81-68; DUKE)

* Wisconsin at Ohio State
Ohio State's Buckeyes upset the Wisconsin Badgers, handing the Madison boys their first loss in Big Ten play. (77-67; OHIO STATE)

* Northwestern at Michigan
The Michigan Wolverines rocked the house as Northwestern's Wildcats got blown out. (68-51; MICHIGAN)

* San Diego State at TCU
Speaking of blowouts, the Horned Frogs of TCU lost big to a team they can kill in football- the San Diego State Aztecs. (76-57; San Diego State)

* Southern Mississippi at Houston
The next two listings are going to come from my hometown. First, Houston. The Houston Cougars improve to 10-5 by downing the Southerh Mississippi Golden Eagles by 4. (62-58; HOUSTON)

* UAB at Rice
The Blazers were blazing extremely all over Rice's Owls. All night long. (75-68; Alabama-Birmingham)

* Texas A&M at Kansas State
Once unbeaten Texas A&M fell apart in Manhattan, KS. The Aggies were beaten by a wicked surge from KSU's Wildcats. (58-54; KANSAS STATE)

* Pittsburgh at Rutgers
The Pitt Panther's men's basketball team is doing what their football team couldn't- dominate. That was all on the line as the State University of New Jersey, Rutgers, played host to the Steel City Kitties. Perhaps the Scarlet Knights carry swords which can destroy anything made of steel. Well, the Steel City boys made Rutgers look like Fool's Gold. Rutgers did make some nice plays in the game. (76-68; Pittsburgh)

* St. Louis at Richmond
The Richmond Spiders don't know how to lose. They did a good job against St. Louis' Bilikens. (65-54; RICHMOND)

* Savannah State at Florida
Attention Savannah State Tigers fans- the Gators of Florida created a (113-62; FLORIDA)

* Minnesota at Iowa
Thriller was the name of the game here. The Iowa Hawkeyes can get it done in football or basketball. Poor Golden Gophers... Had Iowa, but couldn't keep them down. (76-72, 3OT; IOWA)

* Purdue at Penn State
How the hell do you lose to Penn State? They aren't the best Big Ten school, borderinling the worst Big Ten basketball team... but Purdue's Boilermakers got pounded by the Penn State Nittany Lions' Express. All aboard! (74-54; PENN STATE)

* South Dakota State at Central Florida
The UCF Golden Knights were pounded at home to (69-65; South Dakota State)

* High Point at Radford
High Point, NC's Panthers were looking for a win on the road, but they were lovingly denied by the Radford Highlanders(?) (96-76; RADFORD)

* Bradley at Creighton
Ladies and gentlemen, we are now in Omaha, NE. One of America's Jesuit colleges and universities, Creighton University, is ready for action. Ready they were as the Creighton Blue Jays downed the Bradley Braves. (80-76; CREIGHTON)

* South Carolina at Vanderbilt
Regulation solved nothing, so bring on Overtime. South Carolina has momentum into their next game because the Gamecocks shocked the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville. The defending NIT champs are ready for more action later this week. (66-64; South Carolina)

---FOR MORE SCORES, SEE http://www.ncaasports.com/basketball/mens/scoreboard ---

WOMEN'S DIVISION

---RAPID FIRE
* Boston University at Stony Brook (72-54; STONY BROOK)
* Buffalo at Akron (68-63; Buffalo)
* Georgia Tech at North Carolina (85-56; NORTH CAROLINA)
* Texas Tech at Oklahoma (63-57; OKLAHOMA)
* Wisconsin-Milwaukee at Northwestern (81-73; Wisconsin-Milwaukee)

---FOR MORE SCORES, SEE http://www.ncaasports.com/basketball/womens/scoreboard ---

If you like ESPN College Gameday for college football, they'll begin their college basketball swing this weekend. They'll be at Freedom Hall, the battle arena of the Louisville Cardinals. Louisville, of course, lost at St. John's. They were #14 or #15, and ranking wise, this was a St. John's upset. Many argue it wasn't a true upset, so I didn't go about it like that.

THURSDAY'S GAMES
I have another night of games for you. Is it okay if I share them with you? It is? Okay, cool.

MEN'S DIVISION
On the Men's side, we'll kick things off with North Carolina trying to bounce back after being upset by Miami.

RAPID FIRE:
* North Carolina at Virginia (72-68; VIRGINIA)
* Stanford at Arizona (90-81, OT; ARIZONA)
* Towson at North Carolina-Wilmington (7?-48; TOWSON)
* Utah at Air Force (66-44 AIR FORCE)
* Boston University at Stony Brook (73-65; Boston University)
* Cincinatti at Xavier ---RIVALRY GAME--- (73-70, OT; XAVIER)
* Stephen F. Austin at Texas State (59-55; Stephen F. Austin)
* California-Davis at California State-Northridge (97-96, OT; CALIFORNIA STATE-NORTHRIDGE)
* William and Mary at VCU (???-???; VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH)
* Butler at Loyola UC (74-64; LOYOLA UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO)
* Denver at Arkansas State (???-???; ARKANSAS STATE)
* Georgia State at Drexel (73-57; DREXEL)

WOMEN'S DIVISION
We have a very special start to this one.

* Tennessee at Vanderbilt ---RIVALRY GAME---
The Tennessee Lady Volunteers stay unbeaten as Pat Summit gets her 900th win as head coach. They've downed their rivals, the Vanderbilt Lady Commodores. (80-68; Tennessee)

FRIDAY'S GAMES
GTPlanet, I'm kind of sick right now. Got a bad feeling in my throat. I'll still try to give out the scores as much as I can. Tonight, we're starting with a big win in the Big East for the Men's side.

MEN'S DIVISION
"Home of the Underdogs" Notre Dame at Marquette
Notre Dame is a good Big East basketball team. Marquette is an up-and-coming Big East newcomer. This was a match to be decided on ESPN's ESPNU Network. The Fighting Irish of UND is going to give it their all against all opposition, including their winged opponents. This 5 on 5 also includes Marquette, as the Golden Eagles are making some noise in their first foray into the Big East. In the end, this was something to be very excited about if you're from Milwaukee. The Golden Eagles rip a bigtime win. (67-65; MARQUETTE)

* South Florida at Seton Hall
The South Florida Bulls and Seton Hall Pirates went at it. And in Overtime, it's three cheers for the Pirates. (94-89, OT; SETON HALL)

* Niagara at Rider
Two MAAC universities are in the house tonight as we have Niagara University and Rider University. Niagara's woes in the MAAC continue as the Purple Eagles were downed by the Rider Broncos(?).

* Fairfield at Marist
We stay with the MAAC, but in Poughkeepsie, NY. Fairfield's Stags are ready to give Marist something to be concerned about. Let it be known that the Marist Red Foxes will get it done if you let them. But in the end, those antlers from the Fairfield Stags missed their mark on Marist. By the way, their arena kind of looks like a fancy mansion on the inside. It has a lot of bricks and stuff. (91-72; MARIST)

WOMEN'S DIVISION
More women played on Friday than the men. Again, allow me to choose six games, maybe eight. I don't do every score; I just select some games you might be interested in. I don't know what you want, so I'll go ahead going ahead.

* Siena at Marist
Marist's men won, and so did the ladies. The Marist Lady Red Foxes did extra housekeeping, this time against Siena College. The Siena Lady Saints were better off calling in sick or going out on the town. (61-35; MARIST)

* George Washington at Rhode Island
The Lady Colonials of George Washington gave Rhode Island a piece of Washington D.C. The Rams got that beating in empathic fashion. (72-54; George Washington)

* Maryland at Virginia
This is an ACC matchup, so you know you're getting great basketball out of this. This was a good game as the Maryland Lady Terrapins got it done on the road as Virginia's Lady Cavaliers fell by a dime. (84-74, OT; Maryland)

* Iona at Niagara
Niagara had an overall bad day. First the men lose, now the Lady Purple Eagles were dealt a dark destiny, thanks to the Iona Gaels. (67-61; Iona)

* Rice at Tulsa
The Rice Lady Owls are putting Houston on the map, but didn't fare too well taking it to Tulsa, OK and against the Lady Golden Hurricane. (58-53; TULSA)

* Houston at Southern Mississippi
Since Rice couldn't defend the city of Houston's honor, it's time for the Lady Cougars to do their best. Unfortunately, the Lady Cougars were almost blown out by 13 to the USM Lady Golden Eagles. (66-53; SOUTHERN MISSISSPPI)

This Saturday, it's time to find out who will remain unbeaten between Duke, Florida, and Pittsburgh. They all play on Saturday, and you already know I'll cover all three teams plus some extra games. Also, Kentucky's going to South Carolina to face the defending NIT champions. Locally, Houston's going to meet UAB on CSTV. Check this thread come Saturday or early Sunday morning!

SATURDAY'S GAMES
Next weekend is the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, if you follow racing. This Saturday, we have some intriguing matchups on many levels of college basketball. Whether you love Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, George Washington, Saint Joseph's, Campbell, Oakland, or whoever... I got you covered if they played today. Let's take a college basketball tour of America, shall we?

MEN'S DIVISION
Today, we will start with the unbeatens. Then, we have some SEC action with Kentucky and South Carolina. I'll have my hometown Houston Cougars in action. I will also have other games played around the nation. But, let's do the unbeatens first. The games with the unbeatens will be colored in one of my favorite colors- blue.

"G's Up, Hoyas Down" #1 Duke at Georgetown
Duke is going to Washington D.C. for this Big East battle. What about Washington D.C.? It's going to be cold outside in our nation's capital. Since it gets cold with this Winter Sport, this is why you play bigtime basketball indoors. Whoever wins this game will feel like they've imbued a great deal of power. Duke is the powerhouse in this match, but can the Blue Devils be the Commander-in-Chief on Georgetown? Georgetown is glad to be in a city in which they can be as powerful as they want to be. They aren't above the White House, but this House of Representatives are a bunch of Hoyas who will impose their will against any opposition- big or small. At the half, it was G-Town leading Duke 42-28. Can you believe it, player? I don't know about Pittsburgh's game, but you can damn well bet Duke's not going to let this slide. The game came down to clutch plays, free throws, and defensive supremacy. This game was really exciting down the stretch. Credit Duke for making a game out of this, but this was about as much of a stunner as Texas stunning USC in the Rose Bowl. This is despite J.J. Redick getting 41 points for Duke. That NBA caliber of scoring still means nothing if the supporting cast doesn't do their part. So, BIG upset, and Georgetown's first defeat of #1 since 1985 against 1985 Saint Jospeh's (or St. John's, maybe?). (87-84; GEORGETOWN)

* #2 Florida at Tennessee ---RIVALRY GAME---
This is an SEC rivalry you may know of in football. Florida and Tennessee share a pretty healthy rivalry. The Gators don't want to feel like Duke just did earlier today. Tennessee hopes to Volunteer to cover Duke in Vols Orange. I may like orange juice (especially since I'm a little sick today), but Florida didn't like seeing their unbeaten streak covered in Volunteer orange. Upset city, baby! Speaking of Upset City, you may as well add Florida as part of the city's population. (80-76; TENNESSEE)

* #9 Pittsburgh at St. John's
St. John's is the pride of New York City. Pittsburgh is the pride of... well, Pittsburgh. It's the Steel boys ready to touch down in New "Yauk." St. John's is on the rise, trust me. The Red Storm will invade any team with easy money lay-ups, and million-dollar threes. Pittsburgh is already rich, because Panthers cannot be afforded. It's raining men? It's rainging baskets, baby! Early on, the Red Storm had upset intentions. They were saying that "if we could knock off Louisville, we can knock off Pittsburgh as well." I think they led over Pittsburgh by a count of 25-17 or something like that. The Steel City Kitties fought their way back, but St. John's banged in free throws to make it 53-50. Pittsburgh has now lost six straight times at Madison Square Garden against St. John's. Those New Yorkers got her done like only NYC knows how. (55-50; ST. JOHN'S)

* South Carolina at Kentucky
Kentucky picked up a nice win last time out against Georgia. Now, the Wildcats want to take the fight to South Carolina, the defending NIT champs. And while the NIT is nice, the Gamecocks believe the NCAA is better. This game is played in a place called... uh, Rupp Arena. And when there's a home game at Rupp Arena, it can be hell trying to play there if you're the Away team. Lexington, get off your bottoms and stand up for your Kentucky Wildcats! For Kentucky, this was a feel good win. In fact, I can hear myself humming "Feel Good Inc." by Gorillaz... The wild kittens got it done and have won two straight, which is much better than losing three straight. (80-78; KENTUCKY)

* Houston at UAB
When Tom Penders (Houston; Coach) hit the deck inside the last minute of the First Half, it may have taken the wind out of Houston's sails. The Cougars now suffered another tough loss as the UAB Blazers took down the kitties from H-Town. (82-79; ALABAMA-BIRMINGHAM)

* DePaul at Providence
Chicago meets Providence in this Big East matchup. In college football, there are no universities in the greater Chicago area, unless you're talking about the Chicago Maroons in Division 3. College basketball has several Chicago institutions such as Chicago State, Illinois-Chicago, and this team- DePaul University. DePaul University is a Jesuit institution. This means that DePaul is an institution which services itself to religion and faith to God or Jesus. The Blue Demons will need more than prayer to win their games, because Providence wants to have their way with DePaul. Providence calls Providence, RI home. It's also a haven for devoted Friars who look to stay fresh in the Big East. The boys in black and silver got it done, but BOY WAS IT CLOSE! (76-75; PROVIDENCE)

* Purdue at Indiana ---RIVALRY GAME---
West Lafayette... Bloomington. West Lafayette, IN... Bloomington, IN. Big Ten... Big Ten. Sounds like a rivalry to me. Sure enough, these two proud Indiana institutions are ready to go at it. The Purdue Boilermakers are sort of the lamest ducks in the Big Ten. They may even be jive turkeys too. If Purdue can rip a win against their bitter rivals, it would really boost Purdue's morale. Indiana ripped a few upsets in the past, and if you're a Hoosier, this one is a no contest. But as we've seen before, not everything is what it is. (62-49; INDIANA)

* Iliinois at Northwestern
The Fighting Illini of Illinois returned to winning, taking Northwestern's Wildcats straight to Hell. (58-47; Illinois)

* Nebraska at Kansas
Rock chalk Jayhawk KU... however that chant goes, the Jayhawks made sure the Nebraska Cornhuskers hated hearing that chant against them. It was too late as Kansas got it done. Which was worse? This game, or Texas beating Colorado or Texas Tech? (96-54; KANSAS)

* #25 Iowa at #12 Michigan State
This game wasn't even close. The Michigan State Spartans played at home against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Sure enough, Iowa will fall from the Top 25 ranks. This was ugly. Don't even look at the score. (85-55; MICHIGAN STATE)

* Michigan at Minnesota ---RIVALRY GAME---
In football, this is the battle for the Little Brown Jug. The Golden Gophers need a little jug of good luck medicine, as they took a fall to the Michigan Wolverines. A win like this is something to enjoy taking back to the University of Michigan, wouldn't you say? (71-55; Michigan)

* Wake Forest at North Carolina State
At one point, Wake Forest was one of the biggest threats in college hoops, much less the ACC. Now the Demon Deacons continue facing setbacks as North Carolina State's Wolfpack thrown WF to the ground. (92-82; NORTH CAROLINA STATE)

* Texas at Baylor ---RIVALRY GAME---
The Baylor Bears have a better Women's team than a men's team. That's something even the Texas Longhorns can tell you in this rivalry. (66-47; Texas)

* Gonzaga at San Diego
GTPlanet, let's go on a West Coast swing, shall we? Much like Texas was the big dog in the Big XII in football, Gonzaga's the big dog in this one. The Bulldogs headed to a city VERY CLOSE to the Mexican border, San Diego, CA. Or as it's called in "Street Fury," "Day-go." The Toreros of the University of San Diego sensed upset... but almost got it done. Gonzaga survived by the skin of their teeth as the Bulldogs held through. (64-63; Gonzaga)

* Oregon at Washington
The Washington Huskies' fight song is called "Bow Down to Washington." That's something the Oregon Ducks failed to do... and paid for it. Dearly. (78-59; WASHINGTON)

* Syracuse at Villanova
I thought Syracuse didn't suck at basketball... the Orange got crushed real major thanks to the homebound Wildcats. (80-65; VILLANOVA)

* Ohio State at Penn State
Ohio State won themselves some easy money by downing Penn State. The Nittany Lions lost to the better Buckeyes. (75-64; Ohio State)

* Memphis at Southern Mississippi
Oh, Memphis is going to the NCAA Tournament for sure. They are really going to be one of the 65 teams to have a chance at National Championship glory. The Tigers need to keep this going by taking down their opponents in conference. That includes Southern Mississippi's Golden Eagles. It wasn't a sweat for Memphis as they won nicely.(-; Memphis)

* North Dakota State at Wisconsin
This is unbelievable. Many of you are probably thinking "how the hell can Wisconsin lose to... that cupcake North Dakota State?" But look at it like this. Did the North Dakota State Bisons come to play, or did the Wisconsin Badgers simply had a bad day? Whatever the case, this is a sad loss for one of the Big Ten's most talented basketball units. No, forget just basketball, one of the best in football and basketball. Big Ten basketball takes a huge blow thanks to North Dakota State, who simply came into the Kohl's Center and OWNED Wisconsin. (62-55; North Dakota State)

* George Washington at Charlotte
The George Washington Colonials remain pretty sweet by knocking off and knocking down the Charlotte 49ers. (83-69; George Washington)

* #12 West Virginia at #13 UCLA
So close, yet so far. The Bruins made her a close game until West Virginia's Mountaineers were just too tough. (60-56; West Virginia)

* Texas Tech at Oklahoma
You may as well chalk up Texas Tech for an NIT bid because the Red Raiders simply lost their spunk playing the Oklahoma Sooners. (60-48; OKLAHOMA)

* Alabama A&M at Southern
The Southern Jaguars are on the prowl! They said, "if we're going to nobody's postseason tournament, we're taking the Alabama A&M Bulldogs with us!" (72-65; SOUTHERN)

* Boston College at Miami
On the road, Boston College picked up a big win. Even though the Hurricanes have their duck mascot, Sebastian, they couldn't survive Hurricane B.C. Eagles. (65-61; Boston College)

* Virginia Tech at Maryland
Maybe Marcus Vick can help VT's basketball team after the Hokies fell to non-football power Maryland's Terrapins. (81-72; MARYLAND)

* Connecticut at Louisville
Louisville's Cardinals kept it close, but the Louisville Sluggers couldn't bat a home run upset of the Huskies. (71-58; Connecticut)

* La Salle at Saint Joseph's
The MAAC meets the Atlantic 10. The A10 is the bigger conference, but this is the battle of two Philadelphia area schools. (66-54; SAINT JOSEPH'S)

* Lehigh at Lafayette ---RIVALRY GAME---
GTPlanet, Lehigh and Lafayette just DO NOT like each other. In fact, they hate them so much, that they've hated each other for a long time. These two faced each other about 140 years in football. Well, this will be the 210-something game between these two for today's game. Fortunately, the players are nowhere near 210 years old. The game will be in the state of Pennsylvania. You may be thinking Louisiana when I state Lafayette, but this is is Pennsylvania's Lafayette school in Easton or Bethlehem, PA. The Leopards are ready to clash again and again with Lehigh as long as both schools are still standing. Still standing in this bad boy was Lehigh. A win on the road is always pleasing becaues you beat the other team AND their crowd. (76-58; Lehigh)

* George Mason at North Carolina-Wilmington
North Carolina-Wilmington is one of the biggest up and comers. The Seahawks are ready to sink their talons into another team. Let that "other team" be George Mason. The George Mason Patriots aren't afraid of any challenge. Shoot, George Mason will likely say "bring on ANYBODY! Doesn't matter if you're Morgan State or Connecticut. We accept any challenge!" (69-63; NORTH CAROLINA-WILMINGTON)

* Texas A&M at Iowa State
The long road north is where Texas A&M is heading to meet Iowa State. Texas A&M had some trouble going northbound, because the Aggies encountered some reported Cyclones in Ames, IA. Ames, IA is used to bad weather because the Cyclones only do damage to teams who mess with Iowa State. (86-81, OT; Texas A&M)

* Alabama at LSU
Grab a basketball, lace up those Jordans, see you on the court. We got college hoops in Louisiana. But then, we also have some SEC competitors. The Louisiana State Tigers are the Division 1 heartbeat of Louisiana. This Baton Rouge, LA unit met boys from Tuscaloosa, AL. The Crimson Tide are ready to wash away LSU. Did they? Not a chance! Tigers meow, purr, and scratch the competition with their sharp paws. Good kitties! (68-57; LOUISIANA STATE)

* Temple at Massachusetts
Let's head to Amherst, MA. The University of Massachusetts is the home of this game and this A10 matchup. This may be a 40-minute game, but the Minutemen aren't afraid to duke it out for well over one minute. Maybe they are the Minutemen because they can change the momentum of a game in a split minute. That's something the Temple Owls will need to be careful of. I don't know if Temple wants to be in the MAC for basketball too, but this was saddening for Temple. (60-34; MASSACHUSETTS)

* Georgia Southern at Davidson
This is the matter of the Georgia Southern boys and the Davidson boys. Davidson College has some wonderful Wildcats that can play basketball. Those kittens had to prove their worth against Georgia Southern. Georgia Southern is probably better known in football, but the Eagles make a good basketball team as well. In the end, Georgia Southern took an ass-whipping. A BAD one. Davidson College rolls. (83-58; DAVIDSON)

* Kent State at Northern Illinois
Kent, OH is the Away school's location. So, this isn't Kentucky State. It's not even a Kentucky school. It is instead an Ohio unit going west. Looking for some Golden Flashes of victory, and looking to DeKalb, IL for those flashes. Northern Illinois won't just sit back and let Kent State own them. Oh, no. DeKalb is not too far from the Chicago, but the NIU Huskies were too far away to make something happen. (72-61; Kent State)

* Colorado at Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State's dismal year ends up in a loss to the Colorado Buffaloes. Chalk up another loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys. They can't buy one, even in Overtime. (80-78, OT; Colorado)

* California at Arizona
Cal's Golden Bears are good, but the Arizona Wildcats were better. Simple as that. (60-55; ARIZONA)

* St. Bonaventure at Fordham
New York City has more reason to celebrate. This is because the Fordham Rams defeated St. Bonaventure's Bonnies. They defeated the Bonnies even if it took double overtime to do it. (79-70, 2OT; FORDHAM)

* Centenary at Oakland
I'm telling you something. The Mid-Continent may be the Division 1-A football equivalent of the Sun Belt, but there are still some solid teams who can play hoops. Centenary College in Shreveport, LA traveled WAY north to Oakland University in Southeastern Michigan. The Gents are looking to make sure Oakland doesn't play in ANY post-season action. If you're Oakland, who do you call to make sure you end a Saturday winning? Why, GTP's own "BlazinXtreme" of course! Well, I don't know if he can help, but the Golden Grizzlies will appreciate any support. Oakland wants to be golden, and like a 351 Windsor or an LS2, they turned on the jets in this game. And in the end, warm up the bus, sweetheart! Centenary College = No problem! Situation under control. 10-4. Over and out. You dig? (78-63; OAKLAND)

WOMEN'S DIVISION
That was some wild action on the Men's side, eh? Here are some Women's games I've selected to fill this space.

* Marquette at West Virginia
The men didn't lose, but the West Virginia Lady Mountaineers lost. The culprit were the Marquette University Lady Golden Eagles. (80-75; Marquette)

* Army at Navy ---RIVALRY GAME---
It's the feminine version of the Commander-in-Chief trophy! This is rare in today's football, but the Lady Black Knights/Cadets of the United States Military Academy blew out the Navy Midship-Women. (83-69; Army)

* Tulane at Southeastern Louisiana
The Lady Green Wave of Tulane University defeated the Southeastern Louisiana (Golden?) Lions in this battle of Louisiana schools. (69-62; Tulane)

* Wright State at Loyola UC
The Lady Ramblers defeated their Ohio counterparts, the Wright State Lady Raiders in this Horizon League battle. (85-77, OT; LOYOLA UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO)

* Alabama A&M at Southern
Now we have the female version of this SWAC match. Switch the gender, and the Southern Lady Jaguars still devlivered against the Lady Bulldogs. (69-64; SOUTHERN)

What can I say? Duke, Florida, Pittsburgh, and even Wisconsin suffered some hellacious judgments this Saturday. I still think all of these teams are going nowhere close to the NIT come March. I see all of them being at least in the Sweet Sixteen. * And today, nice to see Kentucky going on. Life as usual, right? Hitting the courts and beating the opposition and the odds. Way to go, Lexington. * Never heard of North Dakota State? They made their impact today at the Kohl center. This was a hellacious upset. How many Mid-Continent or Independents can knock off a Big Ten team like Wisconsin? Not many, I can tell you that. Hell, Wisconsin's FOOTBALL team can pound North Dakota State, maybe even the Badger's hockey team as well. But this was shocking. * Oakland gets another win, keeping that smile super-glued on Blazin's face. * Next Saturday, I might be at the Houston Auto Show, so my picks may come at a lazy pace. See you next week!

JohnBM01
South Carolina at Kentucky
(80-78; KENTUCKY)[/COLOR]
Good thing Rondo got that last second three off or it would have been the first time in history that UK lost three in a row at home. Tubby doesn't need to add to his list of firsts.

My Cats are starting to look like the team I know. Some improvement left to go but whatever the problems were seem to be getting worked out.

That was a great game.

So far the Oakland games have been really exciting, I finally made it out to the Centenary game the other day.

Over the weekend, I've been sick. So, I cannot provide any early scores until I get a chance to jot some down. But the week of 1/22 - 1/28 is forthcoming.
