Welcome one and all to the month of February. I am here to talk college basketball as we head our way into March. Most teams are trying to make a stretch run which will take them into March Madness. It's March Madness, NIT, or no tourney at all. Who'll make March Madness? This can be a pivotal month for teams across the nation.

Fridays don't really amount to big game action. That's because Saturday is money time. So let's see what teams got it done for Friday.

John's Rundown
* Kennesaw State Had to Accept a 71-65 Loss at South Carolina Upstate
* Iona College Wins 60-52 Over the Peacocks of St. Peter's College
* Canisius College Blew Out the University of Fairfield 88-60
* Loyola College at Niagara University was Postponed to Tuesday Thanks to Snow and Freezing Rain
* ~w~ The Men Didn't Win, but the Houston Lady Cougars Took the Memphis Lady Tigers Apart 70-54
* ~w~ #9W Duke Handled Virginia Tech 85-50
* ~w~ Cornell's Lady Big Red OWNED Brown 70-37
* ~w~ Alabama-Birmingham Won by 12 as They Beat the Lady Owls of Rice (76-64)

Tomorrow is Groundhog Day. Time to find out if thr groundhog will see its shadow or not. Get ready for a lot of upcoming games. Now if I'm unable to provide scores, I'm willing that you all will help pick up the tab and offer your own reports. Remember, DO NOT wait on me. Just go ahead and make a comment at any time. Have a great weekend! Enjoy Saturday hoops.

Today is Groundhog Day. I'm not sure if the groundhog saw its shadow or not prior to me typing up this report (as of 2:09 PM CDT). The shadows of March are looming in the distance here on Super Bowl weekend. So while the NFL's big game is tomorrow, we have some Satuday college basketball. Oh, by the way... it just came to me... six more weeks of Winter. You all can deal, right? So let's get this deal started!

Saturday Scores

--- Wildcat Pack (men's scores only) ---
Countless schools have similar nicknames for their sports teams. So here is my Wildcat Pack devoted to all teams who have "Wildcat" as the nickname for their schools. I am only doing men's scores. I actually challenged myself to find ALL the Wildcat programs in Division 1. See if I covered all the Division 1 Wildcats by checking out these scores. We begin in the Peachtree State.

You Can't Keep a Good Dog Down... Unless You're Kentucky
* Kentucky {Wildcats} at Georgia {Bulldogs}
FoolKiller thinks Kentucky can get it done at Georgia. Let's see if he's right. We meet Georgia first. Georgia loves to play at home because they've been unbeaten. The Bulldogs are all about winning. Georgia's better known as a football school, but they'll show everyone else who's top dog. If that's true, then some cats are ready to show that cats are ALWAYS better than dogs. That would be Kentucky. The University of Kentucky plays in the very tough SEC. They haven't won a road game yet. That may change, especially if the Wildcats have their way with Georgia. Joe Crawford put up 26 points and 5 for 6 outside the arc to lead Kentucky to victory. First road win for Kentucky. (63-58; Kentucky)

Arizona Ready for a Vicious Fight Against Some Ravenous Bruins
* Arizona {Wildcats} at UCLA {Bruins}
We go from a seven-time National Champion to an 11-time National Champion. We got UCLA matching up against Arizona.
At the 6:20 mark in the First Half, Arizona did something that would denote a team having a bad night- they had only one timeout left! This isn't football. I can't believe I'm saying that in reference to Arizona, who is usually pathetic in football. I thought that teams get six timeouts in basketball rather than five. Unless they changed regulations or something... Arizona would go on to lose in an 82-60 blowout. (82-60; #5 CALIFORNIA-LOS ANGELES)

Former National Champions Collide in the Philadelphia Area
* Syracuse {Orange} at Villanova {Wildcats}
I've been drinking a lot of orange juice and tea while being sick for the weekend. Syracuse Orange is good for you... as long as you're wearing Syracuse colors. Syracuse has been National Champions last in 2003(?). I remembered watching some classic footage of the game between Georgetown and Villanova for the 1984-1985 National Championship. At Rupp Arena, Villanova won the championship in a thrilling match. The Wildcats of Villanova didn't have enough gusto to squeeze the Syracuse Orange. (87-73; Syracuse)

Fresh Off of Stunning Kansas, Kansas State Aims to Teach Missouri Some Respect
* #22 Kansas State {Wildcats} at Missouri
The University of Missouri has an amazing arena. In fact, three of my favorite basketball arenas as in the Big XII. The others include Allen Fieldhouse (Kansas U.) and Gallagher Arena (Oklahoma State). Can you believe the Kansas State Wildcats knocking off Kansas in their last match? Kansas State couldn't beat Kansas in football (what a magical season in football for a usual doormat in Kansas), so the Wildcats tried to cook some birds in basketball. Beasley's the big man on campus for the Manhattan, KS (also known as the Little Apple) school. They'll be heading to Columbia, Missouri to meet the University of Missouri. I think Missouri is a good team both in men's basketball and football. However, they usually are a middle-of-the-road program in both sports. The Tigers want to show they are the better cats no matter what Kansas State thinks. And Missouri was right. They shattered the momentum of Kansas State. (77-74; MISSOURI) *** upset! and big win ***

Black College Basketball Welcomes Two Nice Programs
* Bethune-Cookman {Wildcats} at South Carolina State {Bulldogs}
Wait a minute... didn't we already have a match between Wildcats playing at Bulldogs? Well, this isn't Kentucky at Georgia. We have another Cats vs. Dogs match. This time, in a rival SEC state- South Carolina. The South Carolina State Bulldogs proudly represent the MEAC conference. It is one of about two or three (if you count the Ohio Valley Conference with schools like Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, Samford, and schools thereof). Now welcome Bethune-Cookman University. Bethune-Cookman University is a Florida school. Want to know where it is? Here is a hint: the 50th Anniversary of a special race there happens at this track in this city. That's right! The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats call Daytona Beach, FL home. Unlike the Kentucky/Georgia game, the Bulldogs won this one. It was a close contest. (51-48; SOUTH CAROLINA STATE)

New Hampsire is Great in Football, Good in Hockey, Almost Abysmal in Basketball...
* Boston University {Terriers} at New Hampshire {Wildcats}
In fact, we have a matchup between two pretty powerful hockey schools. Boston University is every bit as terrifying on the ice as they are in hoops... or at least that's what they want you to believe. Today's Boston University is a non-football school. Boston University and Boston College are NOT the same school. The Terriers do have some beef with the B.C. Eagles in every sport the two are available in (except football unless Boston University reinstates football). Now for New Hampshire. The University of New Hampshire is amazing in football and just as amazing in hockey. Just too bad none of the success filters to their basketball program. It's probably because the Wildcats just aren't very good in basketball. So let's see who won this one. Boston University took care of business on the road. (67-52; Boston University)

Don't Underestimate Davidson College
* Davidson {Wildcats} at Chattanooga {Mocs}
This is a battle in the Southern Conference. Davidson College shown their strength early in the season with some nice wins. Whether or not the Davidson Wildcats could imprve to 15-6 will depend on if Chattanooga has their way. To my knowledge, the University of Chatanooga is usually home of the FCS National Championship game in football. Chattanooga's Mocs are ready to defend home turf in hoops. Yet, Chattanooga failed to shut down Davidson. (78-71; Davidson)

The Big Sky is Full of Shining Stars, Inlcuding This Cat Fight
* Weber State {Wildcats} at Idaho State {Bengals}
It's the Idaho State Bengals hosting Weber State. The Weber State Wildcats from Utah had a very unhappy road trip to Idaho and leave with a four-point loss. (63-59; IDAHO STATE)

Mission accomplished! I found all the Wildcat schools that played today! Now on to more scores.

-end "Wildcat Pack"

Memphis Meets a Former National Champion
* Memphis {Tigers} at UTEP {Miners}/UTEP {Miners} at Memphis {Tigers}
Today's UTEP is not exactly Texas Western College, and the University of Memphis isn't the 1966 Kentucky Wildcats. Memphis wants their first championship, but the Tigers need to take care of some Miners if they want to keep their unbeaten streak going. Memphis managed to win in a tight fit. (70-64; #1 MEMPHIS)

SIDE NOTE:
Memphis still has to take on Tennessee and host Houston in Houston's rematch against Memphis. Speaking of Houston...

Coogs Hit the Road to Orlando
* Houston {Cougars} at Central Florida {Golden Knights}
So the University of Houston didn't take care of Memphis. They can still control their destiny in C-USA even if Memphis is having their way. The Cougars can't wait for their rematch against Memphis, but they can't really overlook the UCF Golden Knights. Houston was the only thing golden in Orlando on this night. (84-81; Houston)

The Commonwealth of Virginia Sees an In-State Battle
* Virginia {Cavaliers} at Virginia Tech {Hokies} --- RIVALRY GAME ---
Virginia is in last place in ACC play. Can the Cavaliers make a difference in Blacksburg, VA? The game went into overtime, but the Virginia Tech Hokies were just too much better than their counterparts. (72-68, OT; VIRGINIA TECH)

Louisville Keeps on Keeping On
* Rutgers {Scarlet Knights} at Louisville {Cardinals}
Rutgers is the State University of New Jersey, not to mention the birthplace of college football. These are Scarlet Knights about ready to eliminate some birdies from Louisville. The University of Louisville is the sworn enemy of the University of Kentucky, so I'm sure the Cardinals saw Kentucky when they simply hammered the Scarlet Knights into oblivion. (87-50; LOUISVILLE)

Play Basketball Like a Champion Today... and Every Day
* DePaul {Blue Demons} at Notre Dame {Fighting Irish}
I value the comments of BlackBeadyEyes. So what I've decided to do is talk Notre Dame basketball. Let's meet DePaul first. DePaul University is a religious university in which Chicago is the classroom. The Blue Demons have been singing the blues for a long time since DePaul basketball hasn't been very good. A trip to Notre Dame is not going to make matters better. I learned that the University of Notre Dame is a Catholic institution. So much like I didn't know that Baylor is a Baptist school, I didn't know Notre Dame is Catholic. Notre Dame is the only school other than Boston College to be a religious-type school that can perform in both basketball and football. There's only one Notre Dame. Unless you account for Division 2's non-football school Notre Dame de Namur (in California), and non-football Notre Dame College (in Ohio) in Division 3. The Fighting Irish are absolutely genuine in any sport. In this battle between two religious programs, Notre Dame won by nine over the lowly DePaul Blue Demons.

Golden Grizzlies Try to Stay Golden by Hosting South Dakota State
* South Dakota State {Jackrabbits} at Oakland {Golden Grizzlies}
It's Joey D time as we go to Rochester, MI and check in on his program. South Dakota State's Jackrabbits wear blue and gold. SoDaSU may wear blue and gold, but not Oakland gold. You see, it takes a special group of student athletes to wear Oakland gold. Oakland is not very far away from metropolitan Detroit. MoTown has gold in designing cars as well as producing great vocal talent. Oakland's Golden Grizzlies are a special breed of ferocious beasts. So will Oakland endure the rigors of taking on South Dakota State? Or will they be in trouble like recently-recalled Ford vehicles that have a cruise control switch problem? Oakland's Golden Grizzlies feasted on some unlucky Jackrabbits. Animal Planet brought to life. (78-68; OAKLAND)

OFF-TOPIC
You can read more about the recall issued by Ford by checking out this Wall Street Journal article: < http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120198048556138399.html?mod=googlenews_wsj >. It has to do with cars recalled since 1999 that have a cruise control switch problem. Giving more reason for Ford haters to label Ford as "F:censored: on Race Day," or any other negative acronym related to Ford.

LSU Tries Alabama on For Size
* LSU {Tigers} at Alabama {Crimson Tide}
What the hell happened to LSU? Maybe Les Miles needs to coach the men's basketball team. LSU did manage to get their first SEC win by taking out Auburn. The Crimson Tide washed away the LSU Tigers in this one. The surf from the Crimson Tide was incredibly high for LSU to evade. (81-72; ALABAMA)

SIDE NOTE:
LSU is now 8-12 overall and 1-6 in conference play. Both Alabama and LSU have the same conference record, but LSU is dead last in the SEC West since Alabama has a 12-9 record overall.

EXTRA: SEC Men's Standings After Feb. 2, 2008:
SEC East
Let's see how the best college sports conference in America shapes up in hoops. #7 Tennessee leads the men's standings with a 5-1 record in conference and 18-2 overall. Sharing a 5-1 record is their rivals from the Sunshine State- the University of Florida with an 18-3 record overall. After a rough start of the season, Kentucky is now at a 3-2 record in conference play and an even 9-9 record overall. Kentucky beat Georgia as they are now 2-3 in the SEC and 11-7 overall. Bringing up the rear are two 2-4 conference teams: #19 Vanderbilt (17-4 overall) and South Carolina (10-10 overall).

SEC West
#24 Mississippi State leads the SEC west with a 5-1 conference record and a 14-6 record overall. Arkansas turned the corner to be 2nd in the SEC West with a 4-2 record and a 15-5 record overall. Mississippi is usually pathetic in basketball (other than Auburn), but the #24 Rebels are 3-3 in conference and 15-5 overall. Auburn is 2-4 in conference, but their 12-7 record is not bad. Alabama has a 12-9 record overall, but a 1-5 record overall. LSU brings up the rear with a 1-5 conference record and an 8-12 record. Maybe LSU can't wait for football season to roll back around.

Upsets!
These are other upsets by ranking. It is a quick rundown of lower-ranked teams beating higher-ranked teams. Home teams are underlined. Ranking numbers with an "M" or a "W" denote rankings for men (hence the "M") and women (hence the "W").

* Connecticut upsets #18M Pittsburgh 60-53
* #9M Washington State failed to knock off #14 Stanford in a 67-65 Overtime loss
* #20M Florida couldn't handle a 80-61 blowout at Arkansas
* If Pennsylvania State is so sorry, explain how #8M Michigan State lost 85-76 in Happy Valley.

I unfortunately have only men's scores. See more scores including wins by Duke and Western Kentucky by following these links:

It's going to be six more weeks of Winter according to the good old groundhog. Enjoy, players! I don't think I'll provide Sunday scores because I'll be watching the Super Bowl this Sunday between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. Hope you all enjoy the game if you'll be watching it.

Did you know that games other than the Super Bowl were played? I never concentrated on giving you college hoops scores until the Super Bowl was done for. Somehow, games were played just so people can get home and see the big game on TV. Unless... the REAL big game is something other than the Super Bowl. I won't waste your time having watercooler talk for the new work week. So this is a time I call for RAPID FIRE just to get set for what should be a great week of college basketball. This is a time I "intentionally" go for RAPID FIRE.

Before We Begin...
I forgot to mention that Eddie Sutton now has his 800th win after beating Pepperdine 85-82 back on Saturday. San Francisco is beautiful (I'd still love to go there one day), but the University of San Francisco is still ugly in basketball. Haven't had reason to be excited since the Bill Russell days.

Sunday Scores - RAPID FIRE

* Manhattan at St. Peter's (78-68; ST. PETER'S)
* Army at Bucknell (68-52; Army)
* Kentucky at #2W Tennessee (79-51; #2W TENNESSEE) <<< Peyton Manning a Tennessee alum
* Minnesota at #??W Ohio State (76-62; #??W OHIO STATE)
* #4M North Carolina at Florida State (84-73, OT; #4 North Carolina)

MORE SCORES:
* http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/scoreboard?d=2008-02-03&refresh=60 (Men)
* http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaw/scoreboard?d=2008-02-03&refresh=60 (Women)

In non-basketball news, I congratulate the New York Giants on winning Super Bowl XLII at beautiful University of Phoenix Stadium. Eli Manning won the MVP honors. You have to love the SEC for this. After all, Tennessee produced Peyton Manning. Mississippi produced Eli Manning. Two impressive QBs in college going on to win in the Super Bowl. As for college hoops, more action to come in the coming days including bigtime rivalries! In fact, we got the Duke vs. North Carolina match Monday night with the women, followed up by Duke at North Carolina on Wednesday (and I have an idea as to whom FoolKiller is rooting for). And is it any coincidence that Dick Vitale is making his return to announcing this week when Duke/UNC is on the fight card this week? Take care, everyone!

It was said that Bob Knight just got tired of coaching. He notched up 902 wins in his career with many years in the college ranks. His son, Pat, will take over the team. I'm not sure what the team's overall and conference records are. However, this isn't really a sort of Bobby Petrino example for what I know.

I'll have reports on the Monday action when I have it available. I just wanted to get the big news story across.

I have a rundown for you for Monday. So I'm sure you were either chatting with friends or having watercooler talk about the Super Bowl. The next big championship on the line after the Super Bowl is March Madness. So let's get back to college hoops talk.

John's Rundown
* Louisville Overrates #17M Marquette 71-57 <<< or IS Marquette actually overrated? Discuss here!
* College Basketball's Only Two Division 1 HBCUs that Don't Have Football Saw Coppin State Win Over Their In-State Rival 59-54
* #21 St. Mary's College Tames the Gonzaga Bulldogs 89-85 in Overtime in a Marquee WCC Match
* NEWS FLASH: The New Jersey Institute of Technology SUCKS in Basketball! They Lost 78-68 vs. Longwood <<< NJIT Now 0-24. They have five games left. They may end up the first winless team since Savannah State in 2004 or 2005 if they lose to their remaining opponents: at Texas Pan-American, at La Salle, Chicago State, at Longwood, and at Utah Valley State. The team they may have the best chance beating is Chicago State.
* The Men Play Wednesday, but the #3W North Carolina Lady Tar Heels beat the #9W Duke Lady Blue Devils 93-76 <<< men's game on Wednesday will be Duke at UNC

Find more scores here:

* http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaw/scoreboard?d=2008-02-04&refresh=60 (Women)

Have a great Tuesday. Feel free to ask me anything or make any comments if you please.

You read it here: Dick Vitale will return to the announce table for ESPN College Basketball Wednesday. And how fitting... he'll be providing commentary for Wednesday's Duke at North Carolina match. Yes, a Duke grad calling a game at North Carolina, but the 68(?)-year old is returning from some surgery that's sidelined the colorful commentator for at least a month and change. He'll be back. So get ready for diaper dandies, slam-jam-bams, awesome with a Capital "A," and all that. I bring you games. I hope you like.

John's Rundown
* Piscataway Has Reason to Celebrate as #7W Rutgers Upset #1 Connecticut 73-71
* Michigan May as Well Get Ready for Baseball and Football as Ohio State Won 96-55
* #6M Georgetown Avoids Danger and Takes Care of South Florida 63-53
* #18 Texas A&M Were Not Scared of the Iowa State Cyclones 69-51
* Florida Has a Nightmare, and It's Called #7M Tennessee (104-82)
* #25 DePaul Didn't Have a Good Time in South Florida in a 78-73 Upset

I had an HBCU focus lined up. But unfortunately, no HBCUs played on Tuesday. Wednesday scores will start with Duke at North Carolina. The women beat the Duke ladies. Can the Tar Heel men take down the Duke men? It's the match neither team wants to lose to. Who'll take top honors in round one of this rivalry? Find out in my next report!

I'd like to add this as a seperate, off-topic note... my prayers go out to everyone who experienced the severe weather that impacted parts of Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, and even northern Texas. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you who may have lost someone or got injured in the rough weather.

Dick Vitale is back to light up ESPN College Baskeball coverage. Funny enough, he chooses the Duke/UNC game. Mexico and the United States were ready to play a soccer match in their rivalry. So let's see who got it done as I give a full report on Duke/UNC and a rundown on other action from Wednesday. Lace 'em up, and let's play!

They've Hated Each Other for Years... Time to Settle Business Again
* #2M Duke {Blue Devils} at #3M North Carolina {Tar Heels} --- RIVALRY GAME ---
Since 1920, these two schools have hated each other. Duke vs. North Carolina is a showcase of two of the very best schools in all of college basketball. You may have upsets in ranking, but these two are usually dead even year after year. Neither team wants to lose. Not the Tar Heels of North Carolina. Not the Duke Blue Devils. So who got it done? Mike Patrick and Dick Vitale had the call for ESPN. Duke cashed in on North Carolina's poor execution to win this match. (89-78; #2 Duke)

DID YOU KNOW...
(a) ...that North Carolina leads the overall series 127-97 even as UNC lost tonight?
(b) ...that this is the sixth(?) time both teams are in the top 3?

Kentucky Tries to Continue Winning Ways
* Kentucky {Wildcats} at Auburn {Tigers}
I learned that FoolKiller is in Hawaii. I'm not sure if he'll check out these Kentucky scores. Anyhow, the Wildcats won by three as the 'Cats continue their winning streak by taming the Auburn Tigers. (66-63; Kentucky)

Pat Knight Coaches His First Game for Texas Tech
* Texas Tech {Red Raiders} at Baylor {Bears}
Pat Knight couldn't lead his Red Raiders past an improving Baylor Bears squad. (80-74; BAYLOR)

Memphis Can't be Stopped!
* SMU {Mustangs} at #1M Memphis {Tigers}
John Calipari unleashed his Tigers to eviscerate the SMU Mustangs. Must have been a sad trip back to Dallas if you're SMU.

Now for a rundown of other action. I'll only feature men's action.

John's Rundown (Men's Scores Only in this report)
* Tulsa's Golden Hurricane Felt Like a Breeze to Houston As They Won 92-81
* #8M Wisconsin Prevents Being Upset at Iowa 60-54
* The Red River Shootout Was Won by #12M Texas 64-54 at Oklahoma
* #22M Notre Dame Takes Care of Unranked Seton Hall 95-69
* San Diego State Wins a Low-Scoring Match Against Air Force 49-38

Thursday scores will come your way when I have it complete. Have an amazing day.

No full report this time. So get ready for some Rundown scores.

John's Rundown
* Candace Parker Has a Day-to-Day Leg Injury, but Her #2W Tennessee Lady Volunteers Take Down the Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs
* Long Beach State Wins 63-52 Over the California-Davis Aggies <<< you can hear CSU-LB's fight song in "College Hoops 2K8"
* Oakland's Bid for Revenge Falls Short Again as Oral Roberts Win 60-53 in This Battle of Golden Nicknames
* Wins are Far And Between for Presbyterian College, But They Easily Handled Montreat 84-45
* #25M Pittsburgh Prevents Being Upset by Landing a Clutch Three-Pointer to win 55-54 Over West Virginia
* #13M Xavier Wins a Close One in St. Louis Against the Saint Louis[/B] 70-68
* Western Kentucky's Bid for an NCAA Tourney Looks Great As They are Now 19-5 By Beating North Texas by an NBA Score of 94-84 <<< only lost one game in conference and 19-5 overall
* My Former University, Lamar University, Won in Overtime Against the Colonels of Nicholls State 72-68

ESPN College Gameday will be on the campus of the University of Louisville this Saturday. I'll have some Friday scores when I have them available.

I'll try and focus on some of the other rankings.

I learned that Kentucky are known as the Wildcats, but the hockey team is called the Cool Cats. Here are the Division 2 hockey rankings
=

The NBA Focus is that the New Jersey Nets beat the Charlotte Bobcats on the road. Okay. So maybe beating Charlotte isn't impressive. What WAS impressive was that Jason Kidd got himself the 99th triple-double of his career. Getting one triple-double is hard as it is, let alone 99. Jason Kidd's going to somebody's Hall of Fame if he's not part of one already. I'll try to cover the nation again starting Saturday. This time, I may focus in on more Mountain and Pacific time zone matches. I haven't kept tabs on west coast teams too much. I'll try and change that this Saturday. Reply on, or I'll see you Saturday or Sunday morning!

Last Saturday, I was sick. I'm mostly fine now. I think you came here for college basketball. I think I have scores. Let's do business!

Saturday Scores
Please remember that when you see a Top 25 teams, an "M" represents a ranked men's team. A "W" marks a ranked women's team. This is what I've done to help diffrentiate men's action from women's action. You'll even see something like this:

~women's hoops~

...to know what are men's scores and women's scores. It's time to kick this show off. You ready? We begin in Kentucky featuring the state's two best teams. Louisville is first.

Louisville Wants a White-Out Over Georgetown
* #6M Georgetown {Hoyas} at Louisville {Cardinals}
It's time we begin Saturday scores with the Saturday night primetime main event with ESPN College Gameday on campus. We are at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky. The Cardinals would love taking apart and upsetting the boys from Washington, D.C. Georgetown is a Jesuit institution that knows how to play ball. In fact, maybe one of the all-time best Hoyas was Patrick Ewing. Time to see if Georgetown University handles Louisville proper. People say you shouldn't sleep on Louisville. This result proves why. The White-Out deal worked. (59-51; LOUISVILLE) *** upset! ***

SIDE NOTE:
Did you see Rick Pitino in his white suit to start the game followed by his black suit in the second half? Pitino's styling like crazy!

The Bluegrass State's Blue Warriors Take on Some Alabamans
* Alabama {Crimson Tide} at Kentucky {Wildcats}
Kentucky's won three straight. Can the Wildcats make it four when they take on Alabama? The Crimson Tide would love to cover Kentucky blue with Alabama crimson. But Alabama crimson had to sing Kentucky's blues. Kentucky may have finally turned the corner. (62-52; KENTUCKY)

The Joey D Special: Centenary Tries to Defend Shreveport from Golden Grizzlies
* Oakland {Golden Grizzlies} at Centenary {Gents}
You never know how good you are as a team until you can take on the best and worst teams in your conference. Oakland has to face this if they are to show they belong at least in the Summit League (I accidentally typed "Mid-Continent") tournament. I'm sure all the teams know that if Oral Roberts goes down, it's anyone's tourney to win. Oakland is far from the best, yet still manage to become the kind of Golden Grizzlies that are anything but ordinary. What can I say about Centenary College other than that they are one of the worst teams among the low-major Summit League (no disrespect). The Gents are looking to stun Oakland a bit. Slap them around. Only thing that got slapped around was Centenary. Oakland travelled all the way from Michigan to tear apart Shreveport, Louisiana's Centanry College of Louisiana. Beat the other team down if you come from many miles. (97-61; Oakland)

Okay. Now I want to take a break from Division 1 and highlight a CSTV match in Division 2.

Diviison 2: Screw With the Rams, Get the Horns
* Holy Family {Tigers} at Philadelphia {Rams} --- RIVALRY GAME? ---
College football doesn't have as much of a prescence in Philadelphia. I'll admit that some cities were probably made for college basketball. Phil Martelli is the man in D1 basketball in Philadelphia. Herb Magee is the man in D2 basketball in Philly. He leads his Philadelphia University team against a Philadelphia rival- Holy Family University. So think of this as a D2 version of Philadelphia schools all ready to go at it. These are two non-football schools. Holy Family University is a tight-knit family ready to take apart Philadelphia U. The Tigers are primed and ready to feast on Philly. Philadelphia University has a "Think Pink" campaign to raise breast cancer awareness. I believe Philly U's colors are black and maroon or maroon and white. The Rams have a great women's basketball program. The men only compliment just how awesome hoops in Philly can be. So let's see who wins this rivalry match between two of Philadelphia's schools. Holy Family got wasted by Philadelphia in the closing minutes and seconds. (6?-5?; PHILADELPHIA)

EXTRA: Is Philadelphia the Best College Basketball City in America?
I personally believe that Philadelphia may just be the best college basketball city in America. Reason being is because of all the area teams that compete in Philly. Think about the Big Five (Pennsylvania, Temple, Villanova, Saint Joseph's, and La Salle) and City Six (the Big Five plus Drexel). This is one of the most competitive cities in college basketball. To my knowledge, only Villanova has National Championship honors among the Philadelphia-area schools. This must be a great city for college basketball if you got six schools in Division 1 all having an extended rivalry among one another. Think about other cities that have a lot of teams. Think New York City. Think Chicago. These are two cities with a good number of schools to them. However, they don't have nowhere near the sort of crosstown rivalry as what Philadelphia has.

So I think this is the most competitive and perhaps best city to play college hoops. And one last thing... they have what is considered to be the great of all arenas in college basketball- the Palestra. What city do you think is the best city in all of college basketball?

We continue with hoops.

--- West Coast Swing ---
Let's focus in on West Coast matches. Please keep in mind that West Coast games don't necessarily mean games from the West Coast Conference. I think I can spur your interest a bit. Here are just some quick RAPID FIRE-style scores.

* USCal {Trojans} at #17M Washington State {Cougars} (74-50; #17M WASHINGTON STATE)
* Pepperdine at Gonzaga (101-59; GONZAGA)
* Loyola Marymount at Portland (74-63; PORTLAND)
* California-Irvine at California-Santa Barbara (65-59; California-Irvine) <<< UC-Irvine the alma mater of beautiful Asian model, Brittanie Ngo
* Portland State {Vikings} at Sacramento State {Hornets} (79-56; Portland State)
* Long Beach State {49ers} at Pacific {Tigers} (70-59; PACIFIC) <<< Long Beach State is known as the Dirtbags in baseball
* California State-Northridge {Matadors} at California-Davis (77-57; California State-Northridge)
* UMKC {Kangaroos} at Southern Utah {Thunderbirds} (78-73; SOUTHERN UTAH)
* Montana State {Fighting Bobcats} at Montana {Grizzlies} 88-76; MONTANA) <<< rivalry called the "Brawl of the Wild"
* Chicago State {Cougars} at Utah Valley State (99-89, OT; UTAH VALLEY STATE)

-end: "West Coast Swing"

Notre Dame's Looking for a Fight... Well, You Got One!
* #16M Marquette {Golden Eagles} at #23M Notre Dame {Fighting Irish}
Independents in football, Big East in most other sports. Welcome to the University of Notre Dame. This is a battle of two religious Catholic universities. This one is for BlackBeadyEyes. I'm sure he'd love nothing more than for his Fighting Irish to pummel Marquette into the ground on the court. There's no college football in Milwaukee. Marquette's run of college football ended in the 1950s or the 1960s. Marquette is the last non-football school to win the National Championship as they triumphed in 1977. Unfortunately, Marquette is kind of floundering into the mediocrity stages. They bet Dwayne Wade would return to save his Golden Eagles in their time of need. Especially since the Miami Heat are nothing more but a spark in the NBA. Notre Dame put forth an inspired effort to take the Golden Eagles out of the skies of South Bend, Indiana. (86-83; #23M NOTRE DAME) *** upset (by ranking)! ***

Business as Usual for Duke After Taming North Carolina
* Boston College {Eagles} at #2M Duke {Blue Devils}
Boston College has fallen into mediocrity. The former Big East school is now part of ACC country since conference realignment. The Eagles need a basketball version of Doug Flutie to help them in their time of need. They are 3-5 in conference heading into this match. Duke doesn't play around. The Blue Devils had grounded North Carolina in their trip to Chapel Hill. Now, they want to ground some birdies. Boston College had life until Duke shut the door. Boston College is basically on life support in any hope of making the NCAA tournament. (90-80; #2M DUKE)

Non-Football School Pack
I do put some emphasis on teams that don't have football programs simply because it's my usual measure of how I know a school or not. The ones in this brief pack include matchups of schools that don't have football. So check out these scores:

* Providence {Friars} at St. John's {Red Storm} (64-62; ST. JOHN'S)
* North Florida {Ospreys} at Belmont {Bruins} (79-59; BELMONT)
* Binghamton {Bearcats} at UMBC {Retrivers} (63-59; MARYLAND-BALTIMORE COUNTY)
* Campbell {Fighting Camels} at Mercer {Bears} (75-70; MERCER) <<< Campbell football returns for the 2008 season
* Detroit {Titans} at Cleveland State {Vikings} (60-56; CLEVELAND STATE)
* Charlotte {49ers} at St. Bonaventure {Bonnies} (87-83; Charlotte)
* Illinois-Chicago {Flames} at Loyola UC {Ramblers} (60-55; Illinois-Chicago)
* IPFW {Mastadons} at Oral Roberts {Golden Eagles} (88-56; ORAL ROBERTS)
* New Jersey Institute of Technology {Highlanders} at Texas Pan-American {Broncs} (90-64; TEXAS PAN-AMERICAN) <<< UTPA is 15-13 overall; most likely landing spot would be Summit League

My hometown Houston Cougars won on the road at Tulane 68-56. They have only one loss so far (Memphis). Now next week, it's Houston AT Memphis. As if hosting Memphis isn't bad enough, going TO Memphis and knocking off their Tigers is suicide. Another week of rivalries is forthcoming. Have a great weekend!

I'm sorry... I don't get Amy Winehouse. Never liked her that much. Never liked "Rehab" much like the other people who went all goo-go-ga-ga over Amy Winehouse. "Performance you all been waiting for?" I didn't get the memo, player. When a major event has some sham moments and it's college hoops season, it's always good to fall back on college hoops. I'll tell you about a great game you missed if you were focused in on the Grammys.

John's Rundown (Men's Scores Only)
* Clemson's Losing Streak at Chapel Hill is a New NCAA Record For Most Straight Wins Against One Opponent (53)
* Washington Upsets #4 UCLA 71-61

I don't have too many more scores. So check out these links for more on how your favorite team or teams did:

Take care, everyone. I'll have Monday results when I complete them.

I have a quick rundown as I wasn't able to compile a report. Call me lazy, but at least I'm trying.

John's Rundown
* Georgetown Takes Down Villanova in a Close Duel
* San Francisco Only Saw San Diego's Taillights as the Dons Couldn't Overtake San Diego
* #21 St. Mary's Barely Escapes at Santa Clara's Beautiful Arena

And on an off-topic note, I'd like to wish Richard Z. of the Florida Panthers well after that vicious and gruesome moment on the ice two or so days ago. More hoops for Tuesday on the way!

I've been the only one posting material here so far this month. You all aren't afraid to come in and post some comments now, aren't you? Fear not. This is YOUR thread. I just keep it rolling.

Tuesday 2/13/2008 Scores

Coming of Age Party for Purdue
* #9 Michigan State {Spartans} at #23 Purdue {Boilermakers}
(60-54; #23 PURDUE) *** upset! ***

"My Old Kentucky Home" is Not One of Vanderbilt's Favorite Songs
* Kentucky {Wildcats} at #19 Vanderbilt {Commodores}
Kentucky has no problems taking down SEC foe after SEC foe in trying to extend their five-game winning streak.
Kentucky was trailing 41-11. Absolutely atrocious. But what did we learn from Kentucky's meeting with LSU years ago? NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER GIVE UP!!! Maybe that's what Tom Leach (the voice of the [Kentucky] Wildcats) was preaching on the radio. Jimmy Dykes joked that Ashley Judd's appearance at Vandy in halftime may psych up Kentucky. Or is this going to be the recent trend in which a hot babe goes to a game and screws up the confidence of the other? Vanderbilt put up about 30 points over Kentucky. At 14:00 left in the game, Vanderbilt led Kentucky 60-19. What the hell is wrong with Kentucky here? The ESPN boys said that Kentucky was going to be an underdog in this match. Last I checked, FoolKiller is in Hawaii. Well, this game wasn't exactly paradise for Kentucky. Kentucky would rather go to Nashville to smash Belmont or Lipscomb than lose by well over 20 points at Vanderbilt. They've lost by 41 in an all-time worst loss in SEC play. (93-52; #19M VANDERBILT)

And that's the Kentucky story. I'll get to Louisville later in this report. But, let's move on to other action.

Butler Takes a Trip to Milwaukee to Meet the Lesser of the Milwaukee Schools
* #10M Butler {Bulldogs} at Wisconsin-Milwaukee {Panthers}
You can only go to the University of Wisconsin if you want to play football in dairy country. But if you want to play basketball and want to be in Milwaukee, you can choose between Marquette University and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. It used to be that Wisconsin-Milwaukee was the better men's team. The Panthers haven't been very hot in recent times, but the Bulldogs of Butler are the "it" team in the Horizon League. This nail-biter led to Butler escaping with their lives against some ferocious Panthers. (83-75, OT; #10 Butler)

North Carolina Seeks Fountain of Youth in Charlottesville
* #5M North Carolina {Tar Heels} at Virginia {Cavaliers}
Lose to Duke? The way Tar Heels answer is by beating some Cavaliers from Virginia. Virginia still has only one ACC win. (75-74; #5M North Carolina)

SIDE NOTE:
Virginia is now 1-9 in the ACC. Virginia Tech is usually the bottomfeeders of ACC basketball... NOT Virginia. Wow.

Louisville Sluggers Ready to Bat a Grand Slam All Over DePaul
* Louisville {Cardinals} at DePaul {Blue Demons}
Batter up! The 'Ville took their tour out to Chi-town. Chicago, Illinois is not home to any college football team... at least if you count Evanston, Illinois' Northwestern University. Surely Louisville knows a thing or two about pounding jive turkeys into the turf. The Cardinals have pounded fools into the hardwood and even won a couple of National Championships. DePaul was never really the true power of Chicago. The only National Champion from Chicago (to my knowledge) was Loyola University of Chicago back in the 1960s. The Blue Demons have sung the blues often. This is the Jesuit University of Chicago. They play their games at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL. The Blue Demons were exorcised by the Louisville Cardinals. Louisville can't stop laughing at Kentucky's loss, and they were laughing and enjoying life by taming DePaul. (88-68; Louisville)

This Friday may provide the best Friday night match of the year. Pitt and Marquette will battle. Here's how they did in seperate matches:

* Providence at #24M Pittsburgh (82-63; #24M PITTSBURGH)
* #25M Marquette at Seton Hall (89-64; #25M Marquette)

Marquette has struggled. I'm not sure about their chances when they host Pittsburgh.
(89-64; #25 Marquette)

Wednesday action will come your way when I have my report complete. This includes BlackBeadyEyes's Fighting Irish going up against Connecticut. Take care, everyone!

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you. It's love-ly for you to check out my scores. I'm going to present RAPID FIRE scores for you all from Wednesday matches. I'll have Valentine's Day matches in my next report including some women's action.

RAPID FIRE (Men's Scores Only)
* Mississippi at Alabama (76-67; ALABAMA)
* #12M Xavier at Charlotte (62-60; #12 Xavier)
* St. John's at Cincinnati (60-43; CINCINNATI)
* Maryland at #2M Duke (77-65; #2M DUKE) <<< Happy 61st birthday, Coach K!
* Duquesne at Dayton (63-61; Duquesne)
* #20M Notre Dame at #17 Connecticut (84-74; #17 CONNECTICUT) <<< sorry, BlackBeadyEyes{/B]... couldn't report good news
* LSU at Florida (85-73; Louisiana State) <<< LSU is 2-7 in SEC Play and dead last in SEC West; 9-14 overall
* #18M Kansas State at Texas Tech (84-75; TEXAS TECH) *** upset! ***
* Arkansas at #4M Tennessee (93-71; #4M TENNESSEE)
* Houston at #1M Memphis (98-59; #1M MEMPHIS) <<< I like Houston, but I wasn't surprised they'd lose at Memphis.

Valentine's Day scores coming up in my next report. Find out if any heartbreaks occured in my next report.

Happy (belated) Valentine's Day, everyone! The biggest story from Valentine's Day was heartbreak. Especially if you're the Tennessee Lady Volunteers. The #7 LSU Tigers went into Thompson-Boling Arena and stunned the Lady Vols. This was NOT the kind of Valentines Tennessee wanted to accept. Unfortunately, these were nowhere near chocolate-dipped strawberries or a dozen roses for these Lady Vols as they lost 78-62.

Potentially-severe weather is set to hit Houston on Saturday, so I'm not sure if I can give you Saturday results. Stay tuned

Severe weather may hamper my ability to give you all scores for Friday and Saturday. So what I'll do is make two posts. Since Friday is a day where there's not a lot of action, I'll only showcase the marquee match for tonight.

Marquee Match in Milwaukee at Marquette
* #24M Pittsburgh {Panthers} at #25M Marquette {Golden Eagles}
Marquette's Golden Eagles defended home turf despite the best efforts of Pittsburgh's Panthers. It really wasn't competitive as the score implies. (74-52; #25 MARQUETTE) *** upset! ***

Now for the other matches. You can see for yourself how they did:
* http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/scoreboard?d=2008-02-15&refresh=60 (Men)

Thank you for reading. Coming up in my next post is a quick post made in case I fail to come up with a true report for Saturday action.

The good news in my area was that the initial threat for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes wasn't as intense as initially predicted. The most that happened were some rumbles of thunder as well as some heavy rain and intense winds. Due to some of the low numbers and lower participation, I may want to think about just doing March Madness coverage since regular season coverage on GTP isn't very good for me in the Basketball forums. Again, I can get an audience for my college football, but college basketball is different. Even when I covered the NBA Draft once on here, I asked a question in regards to if the year's class of NCAA talent to the NBA was the deepest, and someone said that he doesn't follow NCAA hoops. So I'm really in some hard times here in covering college basketball on GTPlanet. Still, I know there are fans out there, so I can't disappoint on that front. It's why I say that you all are free to make your own comments in regards to college basketball and not wait on my report. College basketball isn't very well liked on GTPlanet. So my status for doing this next season is in jeaprody. I may just do college football and ONLY cover college basketball when it's tournament time.

If you're one of the ones who read and respects my material, I thank you. Here is a quick look at Saturday action:

Scores from 2/16/2008

Again, I'm going to think hard about continuing on with scores this season until the March Madness deal. I may just stop doing college hoops scores because I don't think there's enough of an audience who responds and chats this sport very well. Otherwise, all of you take care.

Unfortunately, I've suddenly lost interest in covering college hoops on GTPlanet. I know this is sad considering NCAA Tournament action is to come. Part of this is because of low involement for my college hoops forums. I have been unable to maintain an audience. I admit to being a bit lazy in covering scores on GTPlanet for college basketball. Something I may just do is cover the tournament, then decide if I want to continue discussing college hoops on GTPlanet for the 2008-2009 season. And if I can't do it, maybe someone else can actively cover college hoops the way I have.

Here are results from Sunday action:
* http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/scoreboard?d=2008-02-17&refresh=60 (Men)
* http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaw/scoreboard?d=2008-02-17&refresh=60 (Women)

I'll showcase some President's Day action (Happy President's Day to all of you, by the way) when I compile my report. Or if I come up with a report.

For some reason, I've lost energy in covering college hoops daily. Part of this was because of low involvement. I always say that the success of my threads relates to involvement from the general public of GTPlanet. And sad to say, not many are into college hoops as much as I try to expose it. So what I'll do is make limited contributions and focus in only on tournament action. That will come in the future in a future thread.

Monday scores:
* http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaw/scoreboard?d=2008-02-18&refresh=60 (Men)
* http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaw/scoreboard?d=2008-02-18&refresh=60 (Women)

So it's limited contributions for me until the tournament.
