GTPlanet, many teams punched in their ticket to Bowl Game consideration. Welcome to Week 8, "School Pride." So what if college football doesn't have big salary players, salary caps, huge endorsements, players' own shoe line, or anything like that? People, this isn't the NFL. To some, that's an insult. To some others, it couldn't be more true. If you even go to the NFL, your school days are some of the best times of your life. That's why this is such a big business, because college is fun if you're an athlete. You make the grade, and also make big plays on game day or game night. Here's the intro to this week of action.

INTRODUCTION:
Last week, I entitled my report as "Deliver Us From Evil." Unfortunately, Penn State and Florida State were fed to evil as they lost their respective games. Nothing can be more saddening than appearing on the Top 10 radar in the polls, all to lose a game and fall backwards. Think about it. That's like getting a Top 10 in a race, but falling back in the pack. A good number of teams remain undefeated. According to the latest Top 10, the Top 5 of the 10 in the updated polls are all undefeated. That may all change this weekend.

Due to concerns of Hurricane Wilma, the following game(s) will not be played this weekend:

Miami (FL) at Georgia Tech
Let's do Week 8!

DIVISION 1-A SCORES

*+x+* GAME OF THE WEEK *+x+*

"North vs. South" Texas Tech at Texas ---RIVALRY GAME---
Texas is the second-largest state in America, and the largest in the Lower 48. So what happens when you got one team in northern Texas that's tough this year, agsainst a team in... let's call it south central Texas? You got a rivalry. Both teams clobbered their opponents. Texas Tech whipped Kansas State in every direction, and Texas did the same to Colorado. But the Red Raiders have their eyes set on upsetting the Longhorns. Both teams have a lot riding on this game, because both are undefeated, and a loss takes them down in the ranks. Texas has to beat Texas Tech if they want to remain the Big XII's powerhouse this season and potentially meet USC (granted that USC is #1 and undefeated). The state of Texas is getting REAL rowdy right now! It seemed like a slow start for the Longhorns, but don't tell them that they need to pick it up. They got her done in Austin, and in a BIG way.
(52-17; TEXAS)

"A Little Help Here, Please?" Virginia Tech at Maryland
Virginia Tech is still undefeated. They didn't win last weekend. They didn't win, though. After all, they had a Bye Week. Marcus Vick and company lead the Hokies into the "Old Line State," Maryland. The city of mention is College Park, some distance north northeast of Washington D.C. Only school closer to D.C. would likely be the U.S. Naval Academy. The Terrapins were ready to Terra-pin down the Hokies and hand them loss #1 on the season. That COULD have happened several times as Maryland picked off VT several times, but couldn't find the endzone after forcing turnovers. Maryland tried to capitalize, but with their starting QB getting whacked and out of the game, the team was mostly powerless. And it almost seemed like there were more VT fans than Maryland fans at Byrd Stadium. VT- STILL undefeated. Any questions? (28-9; Virginia Tech)

"The Year of the Tiger" LSU at Auburn
Cat lovers, do I have a game for you! You want cute kittens? Well, look elsewhere. Ever seen a tiger squat down in a 3-point stance? Run for a long pass play? Perform a Triple Option? Well, meet the tigers of Baton Louge, LA and of Auburn, AL. The Bayou Bengals are looking to stop Auburn's win streak as Auburn tries to return back to the top ranks after going 11-0, but not playing against USC. With the game played at Jordan-Hare Stadium, these two teams went at it hard. Then late in the game Auburn tried to connect a 49-yard field goal to win inside of 10 seconds in regulation. The kick almost made it, but it was hooked to the left close to the uprights. In the end, LSU prevented a huge upset from happening. (20-17, OT; )

* UCLA at Oregon State
After surviving a scare in the state of Washington, the Bruins of UCLA have a potentially tougher task ahead of them- Oregon State. The Beavers are a solid team who takes no prisoners in their football playing. Wouldn't it be strange if UCLA was undefeated and if USC were too? December 3rd, the pride of Los Angeles would be on the line among two undefeateds if this was true. December 3rd can wait- we got to worry about this weekend, player. Halloween isn't here yet, but Oregon State, despite their talent, lost to another talented program in a blowout. (55-28; CALIFORNIA-LOS ANGELES)

"" Florida State at Duke
I like Miami-FL more than Florida State, but FSU is one of the best teams not only in Florida, but in the nation. Being #4 in the nation before being in Charlottesville, VA, you know the Seminoles had a lot riding on this game- especially a bigtime Bowl Game. I feel for Florida State. Fear not, though. They have a chance to make up for it all by playing... Duke. Duke isn't expected to even be a contender for the ACC championship, unless of course, everone else just SUCKS. The Blue Devils want to beat the Seminoles so bad. The Blue Devils may get it done against FSU on the hardwood on the Coach K court, but can they get her done in football? (55-24; Florida State)

"After the Storm" Penn State at Illinois
Bless Joe Paterno's heart, as well as the many devoted Nittany Lions fans. It was a heart stopper as it was one second left for Michigan to upset Penn State. Michigan needed a win so that they don't submarine the rest of the season. It isn't common to see Illinois get pounded by talented teams. Illinois is simply a basketball school. And I bet they wouldn't even stand a chance in the Big Ten as long as Michigan, Ohio State, and Wisconsin are showing them what makes a football team great, especially a Big Ten football team. (63-10; Penn State)

"" Ohio State at Indiana
Indiana and Ohio are pretty close by. On one end, you got Bloomington, IN. On the other, you have Columbus, OH. One has been national champions several times including a Fiesta Bowl victory over Miami (FL). The other has been national champions too... only in basketball. The Buckeyes leave Columbus for IU. I'm sure the Buckeyes want to waste the Hoosiers so bad that instead of Hoosier tires, they changed to some other tires. Indiana has some hot rods, all running on Hoosier rubber, looking to run over a couple of Buckeyes all the way to the End Zone. Did it happen, or is Indiana ready to face reality? Well, trailing 14-3 isn't really reality. The Hoosiers just want to get to a Bowl Game and do their best. Both teams are 4-2. So, one team will be three games over 0.500, and the other will be one over 0.500. (41-10; Ohio State)

"Iowa City Street Fight" Michigan at Iowa
Hawkeye faithful, you have quite a task at your hands. Those mangy Wolverines knocked off Penn State and have some momentum to win. And they are coming to Iowa City, IA, looking to quiet the Iowa faithful in Kinnick Stadium. On the other hand, Iowa is looking to chant to Michigan: "over-rated!" This game will be played by the players, not the fans. This is even though Iowa's 12th Man will give the Hawkeyes the advantage in this one. Question is, can the players still perform even if they don't need the 12th Man? In the second quarter tied 7-7, Iowa puts together a lovely drive going about 11 of 12 in passing by Iowa QB Drew Tate. Iowa has a 22-Home Game winning streak on the line, trying to make it 23. Some shaky officiating has unnerved the Iowa City, IA faithful. It was a shootout as the Hawkeyes looked to keep their Home Winning Streak alive. The game had to go to extras, but in the end, Iowa City felt a tragedy. Iowa's record is now 5-3, and are sixth in the Big Ten standings. (23-20, OT; Michigan)

"Litmus Test" Houston at Mississippi State
With a chance to move into Bowl Game consideration, the Houston Cougars blew it down the stretch trailing by only one. Memphis needed a win so that their season doesn't become a complete disappointment. But now, they face the Mississippi State Bulldogs. MSU isn't exactly an SEC powerhouse, but the SEC is all competition, all the time. If you're not looking to get with the program, you should leave the SEC for some other conference. Cats and dogs in Stakrsville, MS. Who was the better of the two? I had my doubts with Houston, but the Cougars pulled through and got a win. (28-16; Houston)

"Point of No Mercy" Temple at Clemson
Clemson should win this one. Are they a disappointment if they don't win? Not exactly. If Temple wants to be a MAC contender, they need to win games against tough competition because the MAC is no cupcake conference in football. The Owls are basically underdogs in all their games from here on out. The Clemson Tigers, former 1981 champions, need a win badly to salvage something from this season. It is 17-0 at the half with Clemson blanking Temple in South Carolina. (37-3; CLEMSON)

"Who Let the Blue Tick Hounds Out?" Alabama at Tennessee
Are you excited about SEC football? No? Here's a good reason why you should reconsider. Alabama is undefeated so far, and they make their way into Neyland Stadium to meet Tennessee. The Volunteers have a BIG game on their hands. Remember last year? Tennessee welcomed Auburn, and despite the hard-nosed play and all the screaming Tennessee orange fans, the Volunteers still came up short to the undefeated Auburn Tigers of 2004. Tennesse doesn't get Auburn in this game, but they get Auburn's biggest rivals, the Alabama Crimson Tide. And oh... did I mention that the Crimson Tide are undefeated? A win here would shock Tuscaloosa. If Alabama wins, they win a bigtime road game and stay undefeated and possibly will go further than the SEC Championship game in Atlanta, GA. CBS got the game. (3-6; ALABAMA)

"4th Quarter Knockout" BYU at Notre Dame
Utah's stumbling, so it may be possible for Brigham Young University to cash in. College footballers may not get paid like their pro counterparts, but they'll feel like a million bucks when you go on the road as underdog, just trying to knock off a bigtime program this year. The BYU Cougars are ready to meet the blue and gold. You go from Utah to Indiana, in an effort to worsen the wounds and battle scars the Fighting Irish took against the USC Trojans last week. (49-23; NOTRE DAME)

"Zoo in the Desert" Oregon at Arizona
GTPlanet, let's go to Arizona. The city- Tuscon. The day? Saturday. Saturday in Tuscon, AZ, you get to see two members of the animal kingdom square off. First off, the University of Oregon. The boys from Eugene, OR have walked their way into Arizona. These Ducks are looking to stay ranked and get some good results in Pac-10 play. Oregon is quite talented, maybe not on superpower status, but more of a Pac-10 sleeper. Meanwhile, let's meet a football team that's anything but. The Wildcats of Arizona rule Tuscon and certainly will NOT allow any Ducks to run all over them into the end zone. (-; )

* California at Washington State
Berkley, CA may be home to California, but Pullman, WA is home to Washington State University. If you are a WSU student, you sincerely HATE the boys from Seattle (University of Washington). If you're a California student, you really have your problems with Stanford. These two teams would meet each other in an anything-goes shootout as the Golden Bears try to stay golden, and the Washington State Cougars to upset Cal. (-; )

* Florida International at Troy
The men of Troy don't just reside in Los Angeles, in fact, there are Trojans in Alabama. Meet Troy, a Sun Belt talent that refuse to lose. They welcomed a team from Miami, FL, the Florida International (18-13; TROY)

"Can't Catch a Break" Tulane at UCF (moved from Saturday to Friday)
Tulane can relate to hurricane concerns after this year has been a horrible year for Louisiana. The good news is that Wilma isn't expected to turn west into Texas and Louisiana. The Green Wave will be welcomed by the UCF Golden Knights as Florida is under fire from Wilma's wrath. (-; )

"Xtreme Blazin" Southern Mississippi at UAB
Let's talk borders. No, not the book store, but the borders within these two Conference USA teams. Mississippi on one side, then Alabama on the other. Southern Mississippi is a lovely place to play football, but the Golden Eagles must migrate to Birmingham, AL to meet UAB. The UAB Blazers are a tight-knit unit who proudly welcomed the Southern Miss crew into their aerospace. These are two talents competing in Alabama, but who outshone the other in this Friday Night match? ESPN had the coverage as the black and gold of Southern Miss met the green and gold of UAB. For UAB, they had a chance to stay alive in Conference USA East. Despite UAB's wonderful comeback in all of the second half, Southern Miss pulled away and left the Blazers in the dust. (3?-2?; Southern Mississippi)

"Bearing Down" Louisville at Cincinatti
Louisville came off of a triple-overtime thriller in Morgantown, WV, losing to the Mountaineers. The Cardinals now welcome another Big East goer, the Cincinatti Bearkats. I may not know much about the city of Cincinatti, but I do know that they are a pretty good unit who play in a pretty nice stadium. This was one of three of ESPNU's games covered this Saturday. The talent level seems to favor Louisville, but only slightly. (46-22; Louisville)

* Florida Atlantic at Arkansas State
I know Florida Atlantic must be playing with some heart this weekend, because Florida is having its problems with Hurricane Wilma's forthcoming. It is one of those deals in which it's more than a game. It is a feeling of pride for the Boca Raton boys to go into Arkansas State and beat the Indians. These Owls haven't had a great season unlike last season. (??-??; ARKANSAS STATE)

"Ring My Bell" Nebraska at Missouri *+x+* for the Victory Bell *+X+*
GTPlanet, let's talk about Columbia, MO. Why? It's because the Rivalry Game between Nebraska and Missouri is all for a big bell. On one side is an "N" for Nebraska, then there is an "M" on the other for Missouri. These are actually two Middle of the Road Big XII teams. The Cornhuskers seen the promised land ten years ago in the 1995 season. (41-24; MISSOURI)

* Southern California at Washington
Washington is led by Tyrone Willingham as this team calls scenic Husky Stadium home, in Seattle, WA. As scenic as the stadium is, their 1-5 record isn't lovely. If they want to make an improvement, they will have to beat their opponents coming up. So Washington, here's your next opponent: Southern California. That's right. The #1 team in the nation are looking to blow out Washington lovingly. The Trojans are still undefeated, and many people don't think the Washington Huskies will knock off the Trojans. Let's see if they are right. (51-24; Southern California)

* Northwestern at #22 Michigan State
Northwestern may not be a Big Ten powerhouse. However, they can be completely capable of upsets. Remember when Northwestern upset Ohio State in Evanston, IL last year? Then this year, Northwestern knocked off unbeaten Wisconsin. Now they have to pull the dupe against the once unbeaten Michigan State Spartans. The Northwestern Wildcats are within the Chicago area as they headed northeast to East Lansing, MI. You boys in Ann Arbor are loving this, because your rivals, Michigan State was trailing 21-7 at the end of the First Half. Northwestern's looking to pull the trick again. As it turned out, another upset happened. (49-14; Northwestern)

* Syracuse at Pittsburgh
Syracuse has only one win this season. They are the Arizona Cardinals of the Big East. I guess you can say that the Pittsburgh crew are like the San Francisco 49ers of the Big East. Regardless, both teams stink this season. Both teams need to make something happen to save their respective seasons before things burn up in smoke. The Orange would love nothing more but to ruin the Panthers' season even more. Wish granted? Or hallucination? (37-14; PITTSBURGH)

* #22 Virginia at North Carolina
(7-5; NORTH CAROLINA)

* North Carolina State at Wake Forest
(-; North Carolina State)

* Arkansas at Georgia
(23-20; Georgia)

* East Carolina at Memphis
The East Carolina Pirates were ready to scoop up some booty... not to mention kick some as well, especially against the Memphis Tigers. The Tigers came off of beating Houston last weekend in America's Space City, now at home, they got more reason to be proud as they beat an up-and-coming Pirates team. (27-24; Memphis)

* SMU at Tulsa
(-; TULSA)

* TCU at Air Force
Texas Christian may just be the best team in northern Texas other than Texas Tech. The Horned Frogs travelled to Colorado to meet the Air Force Falcons of the Air Force Academy. This was not even close. (48-10; Texas Christian)

* Rutgers at Connecticut
A 2-point spread was the difference as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights gave the Connecticut Huskies a close loss. (2?-2?; Rutgers)

* Purdue at Wisconsin
Last season, the Purdue Boilermakers had their sensational QB, Kyle Orton. Now drafted in the NFL, the Boilermakers want to make short work of the boys who call Camp Randall Stadium home- Wisconsin. (31-20; WISCONSIN)

* Vanderbilt at South Carolina
(-; SOUTH CAROLINA)

* Arizona State at Stanford
Arizona State is one of the most talented teams in all of the Pac-10. Arizona State went from Tempe, AZ to Palo Alto, CA. Things look a little golden, since Palo Alto, California is only less than 50 miles south of beautiful San Francisco. The Sun Devils were ready, willing, and able to take down the Stanford Cardinal. As this game turned out, it was a hell of an upset in the Pac-10 as the Cardinal whipped their neighbors from the next door state to California, Arizona. (-; STANFORD)

* North Carolina State at Wake Forest
(2?-1?; WAKE FOREST)

* Baylor at Oklahoma
The Oklahoma Sooners are completely overrated this year, losing big games, especially against Texas earlier this year, then last year to the USC Trojans. Baylor upset Texas A&M last year, but the Bears have a chance to really tick off the Sooners. That didn't happen, considering how Baylor tried to keep it close. Three bad passes in Second Overtime helped Baylor lose in Norman, OK, as the Sooners avoided embarassment. (37-30, 2OT; OKLAHOMA)

* Utah at UNLV
(-; Utah)

* Navy at Rice
(-; Navy)

* Fresno State at Idaho
(40-10; Fresno State)

* Northern Illinois at Kent State
Ever heard of Kent, OH? (34-3; Northern Illinois)

* Louisiana-Lafayette at Middle Tennessee State
(??-??; Louisiana-Lafayette)

* Army at Akron
Army is one of the worst teams in college football. The Black Knights had championship glory in 1944, 1945, and 1946. Since then, they stink. The Akron Zips, on the other hand, are a... so-so MAC team. The game's played the Rubber Bowl. You know what? I'm not going to provide some silly story, so, I'll let you look at the score. If your jaw drops or feel indifferent, don't worry. It's normal. (20-0; Akrron)

* Boise State at Utah State
(-; Boise State)

* Marshall at UTEP
Wow. It's a while to go from Huntington, WV to El Paso, TX. It's also a while if the Thundering Herd of Marshall get their asses handed to the UTEP Miners. (31-0; TEXAS-EL PASO)

* North Texas at Louisiana Tech
The Ruston, LA boys welcomed the displaced Tulane Green Wave players to Ruston to play while the Superdome is still being rebuilt. (40-14; LOUISIANA TECH)

* Miami University (Ohio) at Central Michigan
(-; Miami-Ohio)

* Texas A&M at Kansas State
Gig 'em, Aggies! And the Texas A&M Aggies did just that to the KSU Wildcats. (-; Texas A&M)

* Oregon at Arizona
(28-21; Oregon)

* Oklahoma State at Iowa State
Whatever talent Oklahoma State has left was diminished incredibly. The Cowboys lost bigtime last Saturday, so now they meet the Iowa State Cyclones. (37-10; IOWA STATE)

* Buffalo at Toledo
(38-15; TOLEDO)

DIVISION 1-AA AND LOWER

* Northeastern at New Hampshire
We begin the 1-AA standings with the #1 team in Division 1-AA, the New Hampshire Wildcats. The University of New Hampshire has some wild Wildcats. The National Title game in leauges lower than Division 1-A consist of playoffs. You can be number one, but it doesn't guarantee the final game. So to get to The Dance, you have to win more of your games. That's what New Hampshire hopes to do to Northeastern. Not the Big Ten's Northwestern, but the Northeastern Huskies. At one point, the Wildcats led the Huskies 50-something to 7. Pure dominance for the 5-1 Wildcats. (52-21; NEW HAMPSHIRE)

* Stephen F. Austin at Sam Houston State ---RIVALRY GAME---
The Southland Conference is home to these two rivals. Last year, Sam Houston State University celebrated its 125th birthday. Now at 126 years old, SHSU is still committed to excellence in academics and athletics. The Bearkats are dressed in orange and white, as they took on their rivals, Stephen F. Austin. The Lumberjacks are looking to win over their Huntsville counterparts. I don't know the extent of this rivalry, but it's obvious that two schools just do not like each other. At one point, this game was so ugly, it was all SHSU at 31-3 at the half. After the half, (55-24; SAM HOUSTON STATE)

* #11 James Madison at Delaware
James Madison won the National Championship in Division 1-AA last year, beating Montana. Now they meet a Division 1-AA team whose uniforms look almost too much like the University of Michigan- Delaware. The JMU Dukes aren't afraid of Delaware's Fighting Blue Hens. This game takes place in Newark, DE in this East Coast matchup. Skies were cloudy and rainy as these two Atlantic 10 teams went at it. In the second quarter, JMU led by 1 with a score of 7-6. At one point, a penalty was called, and the James Madison manager was mad about a call made. He threw down his hat. I mean, he must have felt like a disgruntled baseball coach! (-; DELAWARE)

"Tiger Tough" Grambling State at Jackson State
Southern University (Baton Rouge, LA) was done disposing of one of their rivals, Jackson State University. Southern's bigger rival is Grambling State. So Southern hates both schools, so you bet they will be enjoying watching rivals pick themselves apart. This is a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) matchup, so you know that competition is everywhere, even with the ever-popular Battle of the Bands. The Tigers will play against... Jackson State's Tigers. (-; )

"Who Are You Hawkin' At?" Lehigh at Bucknell
The Patriot Leauge is up for discussion now. There are seven Patriot Leauge teams in football, but Army and Navy are Patriot Leauge participants in basketball. The Lehigh Mountain Hawks are a ranked team, so a loss anywhere can be costly. They hope a loss won't happen when they meet the Bison of Bucknell.

* North Carolina A&T at Howard
The Aggies are looking to make some waves in Washington D.C. North Carolina A&T of the MEAC conference made their way into Washington D.C. to meet the Howard Bison. The Bison shown lots of character and lots of poise as the Howard Bison got a great win over the Aggies. (16-0; HOWARD)

* South Carolina State at Hampton
The South Carolina Bulldogs came up short in taking down the Hampton Pirates. (14-10; HAMPTON)

* Texas Southern at Mississippi Valley State
The Texas Southern Tigers were winless last year, but made a win happen earlier this year. The Delta Devils are the mascot for Mississippi Valley State. Texas Southern brings Houston, TX to Mississippi as this bottom-dwelling SWAC team is looking for swagger against the Delta Devils. (-; MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE)

* Weber State at East Washington
East Washington is doing very well this season. They are a ranked team, won a lot of their games, now this Big Sky team has Weber State to deal with. Weber State brings the pride of Utah right into the state of Washington. The EWU Eagles make Cheyney, WA home. At the end of this game, though, the Weber State Wildcats were too much as East Washington took their third loss of the year. (-; Weber State)

* Towson at William and Mary
As you may know, these are two talented programs. Towson calls Baltimore, MD home. Williamsburg, VA(?) is home to the College of William and Mary. It is one of the most beautiful stadiums you can see football at. There are a lot of old-time traditions. Love your football? Well, the Towson Tigers are looking at taking down the William and Mary Tribe. I'm sure W&M are looking to keep their Native American-type nickname as Bradley had their appeal rejected. There's one thing you cannot reject, and that's William and Mary's talent as they beat the Tigers and took them back to Baltimore. (44-13; WILLIAM AND MARY)

"Assume This Never Happened..." Assumption at Iona
Assume your position as Assumption, of the Northeast 10, downed the Gaels of Iona College. (27-17; Assumption)

* Brown at Cornell
Ithaca, NY is in southwestern New York, and it is where this game is played as the Rhode Island crew of Brown University took on a tough task. (38-24; Brown)

* La Salle at The College of New Jersey
GTPlanet, La Salle lost to Catholic College of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. A Division 3 team beating a Division 1-AA team is huge. Now, they play ANOTHER Division 3 team, hoping the Explorers can beat the College of New Jersey. The College of New Jersey is part of the New Jersey Athletic Conference in Division 3 football. Will La Salle lose to ANOTHER Division 3 team, or will this MAAC team get back on track? This is an upset to me. La Salle just CANNOT keep losing to Division 3 teams. And you know what's worse? La Salle is only 2-6 this season, already losing to two Division 3 schools. Shame City, baby. (21-16; THE COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY)

* Robert Morris at Monmouth
Robert Morris is not an existing person's name. What it is, however, is home of the the Robert Morris Colonials. Then there are the the Monmouth Hawks of the Northeastern Conference. It was all-defense... except for two blunders by the Colonials. (14-0; MONMOUTH)

* Stony Brook at Sacred Heart
Seawolves can be furious creatures. The Seawolves of Stony Brook are no different. They can have hearts of darkness against their prey. It's just too bad the Sacred Heart Pioneers weren't as helpless of prey. (21-14; SACRED HEART)

* Savannah State at Charleston Southern
The Savannah State Tigers are 0-8. Losing sucks, don't you think? The Charleston Southern Cougars win again. (48-28; CHARLESTON SOUTHERN)

* Duquesne at Marist
The Duquesne Dukes downed the Marist Red Foxes. (22-14; Duquesne)

"Eight-Legged Football Freaks" Hofstra at Richmond
If you are a student of Hofstra, your home is Hempstead, NY. The Spiders of Richmond want to test the Pride of Hofstra. Is Hofstra's Pride too much to take down the Spiders? The game went into double overtime, and Richmond pulled it out. (43-37, 2OT; RICHMOND)

"Everything at (Salisbury) Stake" St. Peters at Salisbury
Salisbury represents the ACFC (Atlantic Central Football Conference), and St. Peter's College is a MAAC school. Peacocks are lively, colorful creatures. Well, these peacocks were anything but as they lost BIG. (41-16; SALISBURY)

* Appalachia State at Wofford
(49-1?; Appalachian State)

* Gardner-Webb at VMI
The VMI Keydets met the Gardner-Webb Running Bulldogs. This was a good game. So good, it took three overtimes to decide the eventual winner. (55-52, 3OT; Gardner Webb)

* Morgan State at Delaware State
Morgan State and Delaware State make for some HBCU football. The Bears of Morgan State and the Hornets of Delaware State are both part of the MEAC Conference, or the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The site of this matchup is Dover, DE. You NASCAR fans may know Dover, DE pretty well. It's home to Dover Downs, the Monster Mile. And this was a monster of a win as Delaware State goes to 5-3. (41-14; DELAWARE STATE)

* Valparaiso at Dayton
The Indiana program of Valparaiso University met some boys in Ohio. Dayton, OH to be exact. Dayton is home to the Flyers of the Pioneer conference. As a matter of fact, the Crusaders and Flyers are part of the Pioneer Conference with something to prove on both sides. Whatever Valparaiso wanted to prove, they didn't get it done. (52-7; DAYTON)

"Mountain-High Talent" Lehigh at Bucknell
Lehigh is a Pennsylvania unit that's part of the Patriot League. They meet another Patriot League team in the Bucknell Bison. Remember to pronounce Bucknell as "buck-nell," and not like "buck-nil." The Mountain Hawks are pretty good in the Patriot Leauge as they took on this challenge. (42-10; Lehigh)

"Red Bulldog" Samford at Tennessee-Martin
Ohio Valley Conference action is next on the menu. An Alabama schol (Samford) goes to Tennessee in the city of Martin, TN. The Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks want to stay fresh and strong against their Bullddog counterparts. (30-22; Samford)

"Falling from the Ashes" Elon at Furman
Merriam Webster describes the Phoenix as being a legendary bird which lived for half a millenium (500 years), burned itself in a pyre, and rose from the ashes to live another period. If that holds true, then North Carolina's Elon is looking to rise up from the ashes and pick apart the Furman Paladins. Even with that ancient folklore, the Phoenix needed more than a phoenix's power. (42-?; FURMAN)

* Fordham at Georgetown ---RIVALRY GAME---
Proud to be a Patriot? This is a Patriot League matchup. The Fordham Rams and Georgetown Hoyas don't like each other. Both teams want to beat the other so bad, it hurts. This game is played in our nation's capital- Washington, D.C. Fordham needs a win to salvage something from this winless season. Georgetown, however, didn't give them the slightest of a chance. (24-21; GEORGETOWN)

* Jacksonville at Austin Peay
You can imagine the Floridian heartbreak with Hurricane Wilma heading to Florida. The Jacksonville Dolphins made their way to face Austin Peay and the Governors. The Gonvernors are 2-5. And after this game, the Governors are basically done for the season. (33-26; Jacksonville)

* St. Joseph (IN) at Butler
Butler is winless. I said, the Butler Bulldogs are winless. They need a win, and they hope that beating St. Joseph of Indiana will greatly help. You know St. Joseph if you follow Big East basketball. Because then, you're thinking about the St. Joseph's Hawks in Philadelphia, PA. But this is Indiana. (23-7; St. Joseph-Indiana)

* Texas Southern at Mississippi Valley State
Texas Southern winning is like the Haley's Comet- a rare occurance, but pretty when it happens. So when the Tigers won that single game, (35-28; MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE)

* Northwestern State at Texas State
(-; )

* Rhode Island at Villanova
We're heading to the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. But there won't be any love in this game. There wasn't love for the Villanova Wildcats as they took a seat and accepted a big loss. (48-30; Rhode Island)

* Grambling at Jackson State
This is a battle of Louisiana vs. Mississippi. The Grambling State Tigers went to Mississippi, and beat the Jackson State Tigers. (55-??; Grambling State)

* Western Carolina at Chattanooga
The Western Carolina Catamounts got it done against the Chattanooga Mocs. (??-??; Western Carolina)

"The Boys From New York City" Columbia at Dartmouth
Them Columbia Lions... they got a problem with the boys from Hanover, NH. The Dartmouth Green wanted to settle the dispute on the field, and at game's end, the Columbia Lions returned to Manhattan Island with some explaining to do for them losing to the Green. (17-6; DARTMOUTH)

"Eleven Deadly Sins" Central Connecticut State at Wagner
Wagner College shouldn't be too far from you if you live in New York City, NY. Wagner can be found in Staten Island, NY. This is where the game is played as they welcomed the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils. The Blue Devils sinned bigtime as they beat the Seahawks of Staten Island. (38-34; Central Connecticut State)

"The 1600 Club" Princeton at Harvard
(27-24; Princeton)

* Colgate at Holy Cross
The Colgate Raiders took down the Holy Cross Crusaders in this Patriot League matchup. Holy Cross accepts an unholy defeat, their third of the season. (27-14; Colgate)

* Prairie View at Lincoln Missouri
Prairie View A&M's Panthers made short work out of the Lincoln boys. The game was played in Missouri as Lincoln is actually a Division 2 Independent taking on PVA&MU of the SWAC. The boys from Prairie View, Texas wanted to get things done, and they did... empathically. (40-8; Prairie View)

* Northern Iowa at Illinois State
(38-3; ILLINOIS STATE)

* Southern Illinois at Indiana State
The Southern Illinois Salukis beat the dismal, winless Indiana State Sycamores. (42-2?; Southern Illinois)

* Cal Polytechnical at Montana
I want you to remember this city- Missoula, MT. This is a Big Sky team meeting up against the Mustangs of California Polytechnical. The Montana Grizzlies came up short against James Madison in last season's 1-AA championship game. Trying to fight their way back and have another chance, the boys from Cali went up to America's least mentioned state- Montana. Regardless, the Mustangs lost by three field goals. (36-27; MONTANA)

* Missouri State at Youngstown State
Penguins are more than just cute Antartic foul. In fact, they make good football players, as they downed the Missouri State Bears. (31-7; YOUNGSTOWN STATE)

The Jacksonville State Gamecocks took down the Tennessee State Tigers, but the Tigers got a consolation field goal to avoid getting blanked. (33-3; Jacksonville State)

"Fighting SUU" Northern Colorado at Southern Utah

The Florida A&M Rattlers met the Norfolk State Spartans in this MEAC matchup, and the Rattlers won against this tough Norfolk team. (??-??; FLORIDA A&M)

"Wild Quaker Oats" Yale at Pennsylvania
Philadelphia is on tap. The Pennsylvania Quakers welcomed the Yale Bulldogs. Instead of breeding and taking care of these Bulldogs, they wanted to play football with them, and hopefully anger them. (-; PENNSYLVANIA)

* McNeese State at Southeast Louisiana
This battle takes place within Louisiana. This Southland Conference game pits two viable opponents as S.E. Louisiana beat one of their own Louisiana schools. (39-1?; SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA)

* #20 Ohio Northern at #2 Mount Union
GTPlanet, this is my first ever Division 3 highlight I have for you all. The Purple Raiders of Mount Union was #2 in the nation hosting the #20 Ohio Northern Polar Bears. Thanks to CSTV (College Sports Television), this highlight came to me. As it turned out, the Ohio Northern Polar Bears acheived a hellacious upset against the Purple Raiders. A long time at the top for the Purple Raiders is now no more. You see? Even games below Division 1-A can make for great upsets and sensational wins. (21-14; Ohio Northern)

The University of Albany's Great Danes outclassed the Red Flash of St. Francis. (25-16; Albany)

* Davidson at Morehead State
The Wildcats of Davidson College had little reason to be happy as they lost to the Eagles of Morehead State. Morehead State is doing VERY well. In fact, this win makes them 7-1. (31-13; MOREHEAD STATE)

MY COMMENTARY

BIGGEST WIN(S) OF THE WEEK
(1) Houston Beats Mississippi State This was a victory here locally that I couldn't believe. Usually, the SEC is full of football talent (except Kentucky). Mississippi State is pretty dismal, but this is a big win for Houston's best college football team. (2) Dismal Army Black Knights Break From Winless Status by Beating Akron Army won a game. No, it's not a misprint. While Houston got a nice win in Starksville, MS, Army won on the road, shutting out its opponent. I consider this a huge win for a team that rarely wins. So, there are two big winners- Houston and Army.

MOST DISAPPOINTING LOSS(ES) OF THE WEEK
(1) Tennessee's Fumbles Prevented the Volunteers from a Monumental Upset Iowa had a big loss, however, it isn't the Most Disappointing Loss. Instead, there was a moment in which Tennessee could be leading by 10, had it not been for a fumble heading into the End Zone. As a result, Alabama survived a defensive shootout. (2) Division 1-AA Teams Losing to Division 2 and Division 3 Teams Obviously, Division 1 football is the highest level, with Division 1-A being the highest. But among the Division 1 teams, some of the Division 1-AA teams lost what could have been easy games. Of course, nothing is easy in football. If you are going to represent the highest number division of college football, these are games you MUST win. The saddest benefactor of this "Most Disappointing Loss" goes to La Salle. La Salle lost last week to Catholic, and then lost to the College of New Jersey this week. La Salle needs to avenge these losses any way they can. La Salle is 2-6.

UPSET(S) OF THE WEEK (if any):
Ohio Northern Upsets the #2 Mount Union Purple Raiders Now, I would say that Northwestern would get credit for Upset of the Week, but here's why this game is bigger than Northwestern/Michigan State. These two Division 3 teams are part of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). The Purple Raiders of Mount Union were a Top 5 team. In fact, they were #2 in the nation behind Linfield College. The Ohio Northern Polar Bears were #20 in the nation, but they got the job done in a BIG way to take down the Purple Raiders. It was an absolute shocker.

OWNAGE(S) OF THE WEEK:
Penn State Ripped Illinois to Shreds 63-10 Illinois, you ready to get OWNED again? First Michigan State, now this. Play harder, or stick to basketball.

Illinois = OWNED! (By Penn State)

ENTERTAINING MOMENTS
* After Virginia Tech took it to the house to make it 14-3, Maryland got the ball back, but as Holding was called, the microphone the referree had was accidentally on. But when he announced the penalty, it was turned off... by accident! * V. Davis, a Tight End for Maryland was featured as the "Hometown Hero," being from Washington D.C. He was shown in the weight room at the University of Maryland, and let me tell you. V. Davis is BUILT! He got muscles on top of muscles, a ripped abdomen, bulging arm muscles... this guy is built! * Matt Leinart became the best-ever Pac-10 passing quarterback by beating Washington on the road. * Speaking of this game, the Trojans had a beautiful one-hander for a touchdown. It was one hand on the ball, and one foot in bounds. Just a beautiful grab. * The New Hampshire Wildcats' QB broke the record for the best pass completion percentage in Division 1-AA.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
GTPlanet, this week had a few low-scoring games. Defense seemed to step up in these games (unless you got blown out). It was sad and a bit disappointing to see Division 1-AA teams lose to Division 2 and 3 teams, with La Salle being the biggest disappointment, losing to Catholic one week, then The College of New Jersey the next. Week Nine sends us into Halloween Monday. See you then! Reply on with your own commentary.

Now, heading into next week, we got some issues going on. * The first issue is D.J. Shockley not likely to play in this week's "World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party" vs. Florida. Georgia may take their first loss if Florida plays good while Georgia just looks bad. * Texas goes to #1 as Southern Cal goes to #2. One big reason some give is because Texas has a tougher schedule. * Miami (FL) may have to reschedule some of their games because of the impact of Hurricane Wilma.

Remaining unbeatens:
Texas, Southern California, UCLA, Georgia, Virginia Tech, and Alabama

Next week, I'm going to call the Georgia/Florida game the "Game of the Week" for when my next report comes along.
