Hi, ladies and gentlemen. My name is John Brandon Marine, or JohnBM01 on GTPlanet. I believe this will be my fifth season covering college football on GTPlanet. I began some time in about 2004 covering games on a weekly basis. For some time now, I had evolved my coverage of college football each season. I went from weekly reports to daily reports. College football always goes strong.
Introduction: Enroll in Another Season of College Football Today!
I like to think of my collegiate coverage as "GTPlanet University." An education in Gran Turismo news is usually why we're regarded so highly. In the Football forum while NFL action is alive and well, my job is college football. I try to start weekly threads on GTPlanet that I now update daily. Each week, a new thread will be made. Any games played on Sunday will be shown in next week's thread. Don't worry about tuition for GTPlanet University because it's free! If you're on GTPlanet and registered (or just coming along to see GTPU in work, you're a student of college football. Don't think of my as your professor of college football. Instead, I'm here to report on college football. If I am ever to have a successful time on college football chat on GTPlanet, I need your support. I don't want to just post material and not have you get involved.
Now here is a rundown of what I do on here. Each week, I will offer a new thread of action. All postseason action will be in one large thread. More people care about BCS conference schools in FBS than schools like, say... Northern Illinois, Buffalo, Florida International, Rice, and schools like that. My job is to cover college football. That's college football. Not just BCS schools. Not just schools everyone's heard of. I am always an advocate of covering a broad landscape rather than just BCS schools.
And look at this... I even cover FCS. Why cover FCS? For most people, FCS is loved because there's a playoff system rather than a Bowl system. I talk about all kinds of schools in FCS. This includes San Diego, Georgia Southern, Southern, Alabama A&M, Sam Houston State, North Dakota State, Furman, Appalachian State, Villanova, Massachusetts, Georgetown, and more. You can be sure to see FCS coverage yet again because while not everyone follows FCS, at least I leave it out there to be discussed.
Division 2 is also covered by me. Division 2 rarely gets TV time. You either see quality teams or even some black college football from conferences like the SIAC in Division 2. Division 2 football schools include (but not limited to) Grand Valley State, Winona State, Pittsburg State, West Texas A&M, Chadron State, North Alabama, and defending D2 National Champs- Valdosta State. I'll try to share scores from Division 2. I got a good reaction on GTPlanet when I covered a game involving Slippery Rock. Division 2 will be covered as best as I can.
Finally, I'll cover Division 3. Division 3 is the lowest division of NCAA college football. Most of these are very small colleges and universities with very small crowds following such teams. They can still put on quite a show. Division 3 schools include Mary-Hardin Baylor, Chicago, Ohio Northern, Washington and Jefferson, Coast Guard, Puget Sound, Lewis and Clark, Mount Union, and defending champs- Wisconsin-Whitewater.
For the first time, I may focus on NAIA scores this season. I want to find a good site to use to check out NAIA scores. Now there was a plan for the NAIA to merge with the NCAA to form NCAA's Division 4. No official plan has been made, but the rumor has been made.
--- My Sources for Scores ---
I will use the following sources for my scores:
NCAA FBS: < http://www.ncaasports.com/football/mens/scoreboard > and < http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/scoreboard;_ylt=AsOguoMCa.kwEVr6.RA8JLkcvrYF >
NCAA FCS: < http://www.ncaasports.com/football/mens/scoreboard/1AA > and < (a Yahoo! Sports link to be announced) >
NCAA D2: < http://www.d2football.com/scores/ > <<< begins 8/23
NCAA D3: < http://www.d3football.com/schedule.html > <<< begins 9/4
NAIA (New!): < http://www.naiasports.org/scoreboard.php?sportID=5 > <<< will attempt to talk about NAIA; begins 8/??
NOTE: Even though I'll focus a bit on the NAIA, they will NOT be included in my "Winners and Losers" segments each week. The majority of college football in my posts has to do with the NCAA.
--- Score Introduction ---
Here is a generic report at how things go:
Title/Headline
* #?? Away Team {Away Team Nickname} vs./at #?? Home Team (Home Team Nickname)
Report Main Report (Winning score-losing score (OVERTIME?); AwayTeam/HOMETEAM)
Nominations for BIG WIN will be in Blue. Biggest wins involve come-from-behind victories, wins against improbable opponents, ending a losing streak, a strong victory, etc. Nominations for DISAPPOINTING LOSS will be in Red. Disappointing losses are hard losses against teams that could have been easily beaten. These are fail situations. If I have some words of my own to rub a little salt on the wounds, I'll do that. Nominations for UPSET OF THE WEEK will be in Magenta. Upsets are defined as low-ranked wins over ranked teams. The criteria for me is that ANY win over a higher-ranked or ranked team is an upset. May not be a true upset, but I count them as upsets. In my Winners and Losers segment, I try to find the highest-ranked team that lost over the weekend. I include "if any" to my report in case there wasn't any real upset to be concerned with. Nominations for OWNAGE will be in Orange. Yeah, think "Ownage Orange." This is my personal favorite part of Winners and Losers. The winner of UPSET OF THE WEEK is the one who puts up the largest margin of victory over another team. I sometimes combine beatdowns to show multiple ownages.
Here is a sample of Winners and Losers:
John's [SAMPLE] Winners and Losers
BIGGEST WIN(S) OF THE WEEK: Michigan Comes from Behind to Beat a Game Notre Dame Michigan was on the ropes against Notre Dame down 28-0 at the Half. They'd come back to put five touchdowns on the board as they only limited Notre Dame to a field goal in their 35-31 win.
DISAPPOINTING LOSS(ES) OF THE WEEK: Pittsburgh Fails to Shut Down Temple in a 28-3 Rout You'd never think this would happen. Even the 1976 Pittsburgh Panthers could beat Temple. This was damned deplorable.
UPSET(S) OF THE WEEK (if any): Cats are Better than Dogs, even #1 Georgia Should Admit Against #15 Kentucky A trip to Sanford Stadium was the basis for an incredible win over the projected SEC favorites, Georgia. A late touchdown followed by a Wildcats' interception sealed the deal against a powerful Georgia Bulldogs unit. That secondary for Kentucky was on their game for sure getting three picks and returning one to the house. BIG win for the 'Cats.
OWNAGE(S) OF THE WEEK: Savannah State Has No Choice But to Accept an 84-0 Beating from Western Kentucky They are called the Hilltoppers, but Western Kentucky was mountainous over Savannah State with this huge beatdown. Savannah State's the sorriest school in FBS or FCS. So...
Savannah State = OWNED 84-0 by Western Kentucky!
By the way, I hope Temple NEVER beats a BCS school (not even Duke) by more than two touchdowns. That would win MOST DISAPPOINTING LOSS without even considering if Northwestern loses to Duke again.
--- Other Features ---
I do Profile Schools, Extras, Did You Know?, and other segments. These are marked in blue. Old School is a flashback of college football. These are just diversions from my college football reports and clearly for your information or enjoyment.
During the NFL season, I will offer an NFL Focus. You came here for college football, but I do touch up on the NFL because a lot of college football players dream of playing on Sundays and Monday Night. So I offer an NFL Focus. Being a Houstonian, I usually cover the Houston Texans first (because Houston is not as sorry as mostly East Coast people take them to be). I will now include Monday Night action including a few Thursday-Saturday games in the later portions of the NFL season. Here is a sample:
--- [SAMPLE] NFL Focus ---[/B}
Texans Ready to Rock and Roll in Nashville
* Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans
Old Houston and new Houston collide in this AFC South rivalry. The Texans have been doing pretty well so far at 5-2 going up against a 6-1 Tennessee squad. This was a bitter fight to the end, but the Titans just came up better... until a game-winning field goal by the Texans! (31-28; Houston Texans)
Same Great Star, Different Color of Green, Coming "Home"
* New York Jets at Green Bay Packers
I knew this would happen. Where do the Lambeau loyalties lie in Green Bay? Brett Favre is making Packers' management feel sorry for trading Favre. Aaron Rodgers threw an embarassing five interceptions in which Green Bay quickly capitalized on. (45-17; New York Jets)
Something to Prove
* New England Patriots at St. Louis Rams
Tom Brady brings his band of merry men into the Gateway city. New England won every game except the Super Bowl last season, and they're undefeated as of right now. St. Louis wears the color gold for a reason- they were golden in taming Brady and his offense. (31-14; ST. LOUIS RAMS)
--- A Few "Rules" ---
As the college football guy on GTPlanet, I do have some recommendations. Here they are:
* Don't make seperate threads to talk about one game. I've created these threads for everyone to chat college football.
* I may still be working on my reports. If you've seen college football and want to chat college football, DO NOT wait for my report. Just come into the thread and chat about what you saw from completed games. This is even if the #1 team in any division of NCAA football falls hard.
* If you're going to quote me, DO NOT quote my entire post. Just find whatever it is you want to chat about, and I'll be sure to chat with you about it.
* Anything involving college football is fair game. Part of the success of getting these threads to be hot depends on involvement by all of you.
* I will not cover every game. I'm sorry if I don't get across to your team with my own personal commentary. All of my posts of games (especially Saturday where lots of games will be played) will all be included along with the sources I got my scores from.
* If I don't have a full report to share, I will do "RAPID FIRE" in which I randomly select games to share with you all. Check out the source links I provide for scores I did not include. I do these in case I'm behind making score reports. I want to be done with the past day's scores before moving on to a new week.
* PLEASE correct me if I make an error on scores or highlights. I would appreciate respectful comments rather than flaming me. I am human, you know.
* Have fun! Feel free! You came for college football, and I do all I can to make things interesting.
I will be sure to make this another interesting season of college football on GTPlanet. This will be my first season in which I'll try to focus on the NAIA in brief segments. I just won't cover them religiously as I do other NCAA divisions.
