This thread is for all the honors regarding the honors and non-playing news concerning college football. The big deal as of the date of this post regards the Heisman race. Here are your finalists to win the John Heisman trophy:

* Tim Tebow (QB, Florida)
* Colt McCoy (QB, Texas)
* Graham Harrell (QB, Texas Tech)
* Sam Bradford (QB, Oklahoma)

Coaching Notes
* Mike Locksley will be the fourth black head coach in FBS as he'll be the head coach of a very good school- the University of New Mexico.

* Tyrone Willingham will step down as Washington head coach... to welcome Steve Sarkisian. I usually regard Washington as a good team, but they haven't been good for a long time. God help Steve Sarkisian turn around the Huskies even for a team that's been co-National Champions along with Miami (some say there's ESPN East Coast bias in saying Miami was better than Washington in the 1990 season. Visit this Wikipedia link for more information on the history of Washington Huskies football: < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Huskies_football >.

* Auburn's looking for a new coach. They MAY go to Turner Gill, who is the current head coach at the University of Buffalo.

I'll be keeping this thread updated on all-stars, the Heisman race, and more. This is also the thread to discuss all the goings on after the BCS National Championship game. So be sure to chat away here.

I think it was 1991, since Miami lost two in '90. Both teams were undefeated, and you had two polls that counted towards the title. As I recall, Miami was the continual front-runner in the Writer's poll, and Washington was leader in the Coaches' poll.

1990 was Georgia Tech's year (with two ties), and Colorado had that infamous 5th-down game...Miami and Notre Dame self-destructed when it counted, as did Michigan against Michigan State...A lot like last year's season, when nobody wanted to win.

Then they matched up once in 1995, when both teams were on the descent, and Washington broke UM's 10-year-old home-winning streak.

Nobody liked the split-championship idea then, but at least you had two teams bragging about their glory, and enough to make you realize the NCAA enjoys having that sort of controversy, since it creates lots of talk about its biggest sport.

Graham Harrell... was NOT invited. Michael Wilbon just teed off on college football for this. So no Graham Harrell was NOT invited...

Playoffs are going on elsewhere. Meanwhile, we have a new Heisman winner to go about.

Division 1: FBS Scores
Let's get ready to see who'll win the Heisman. Let's get it!

New York City, New York - The Biggest Single-Player Accomplishment Will Be Handed Out
* Tim Tebow {Florida} vs. Sam Bradford {Oklahoma} vs. Colt McCoy {Texas}
If St. John's University reinstated football and played in the Big East in football apart from their MAAC days, they'd be the kings of New York City. But since there is no powerhouse football team in New York City (Columbia and Fordham have football), any football action here will be played without shoulder pads, helmets, cleats, play clock, referees, challenge flags, penalty flags, timeouts, line judges, and stuff like that. In fact, this is a game in itself because the Heisman voting is going to be intense as there's no outright favorite. Yeah. People think Tim Tebow will go back-to-back, but two of the Big XII's representatives want some face time too. Big XII vs. SEC not only for the BCS National Championship, but for the Heisman as well. Only that Colt McCoy won't bring his team to Miami for the title against Florida. New York City has many bright lights, but one star will shine as bright as any of the billboards in Times Square. And so... Sam Bradford will join college football's most elite fraternity as he won the Heisman for 2008. Congratulations to this young man on a job well done.

I DIDN'T KNOW...
...that Tim Tebow is from Manila, Phillipines. Perhaps one of the best Asian players in a while. Especially considering you're playing in the gritty SEC for one of the best teams. I tell you what, my respect for Tebow as a person just steadily increases. This is outside of football. All that missionary work and stuff... really goes out of his way to help others. But on the field, he's leading his team to victory.

As an extra score, Grambling State smacked the s:censored: out of Jackson State in the SWAC Championship game with a 41-9 pounding. This thread will serve as the lookback thread for the season aside from all the awards and honorable mentions. So keep this deal alive. Meanwhile, I encourage you to join me in the postseason thread as I'll showcase all of the Bowl Game matches.

I wonder how many college football games had two active Heisman Trophy winners play against each other?

That's got to be a short list...

Turner Gill will remain at Buffalo. He's signed a new three-year contract. * Joe Paterno got himself a three-year extension as well. It's... at least his 45th year at Penn State for this graduate of Brown University. He will turn 82 this Sunday. Still going strong. Quite the iron man of college football. * Have any of you heard Charles Barkley's thoughts as to what a factor of Turner Gill not being hired at Auburn over Gene Chisik? I didn't know that Charles Barkley is an Auburn alum (in fact, there aren't a lot of alma maters I know of certain people). He thought race was a factor in the deal of not enough black coaches in college football (or at least in FBS).

Finally, a key injury for the Oklahoma Sooners will see one of Sam Bradford's favorite targets be out for five months. He'll miss out on the BCS National Championship Game, the NFL Draft, and perhaps Spring Training as well. So he'll be back for another season. I wonder if Oklahoma will be effective offensively if Sam Bradford goes to the NFL Draft.

One last Heisman note: this was the first Heisman voting session with none of the players being Seniors. Either first-ever or first in a while.

Auburn just hired a coach that has 5 wins over two seasons. I known Iowa State is not a football powerhouse, but...but...uh...let me get back to you. Turner Gill coached a team with almost no Div.I-A/FBS football history nor much of a recruiting class to 7 wins this year, and knocked off a favored Ball State team that was 12-0 heading into their championship game.

I'm not going to say it was race that made a difference, but the only thing I can imagine was: Was Gene Chizik was the only guy that wore a tie and showed up to the interview on time? Maybe Gill had a verbal commitment to return to Buffalo? Maybe they flipped a three-headed coin?

As a Gator, I know Auburn can typically put together a darn good team, and '08 just wasn't their year. All I can say is good luck to Chizik, even Auburn fans are shocked at his selection.

Your Capital One Mascot of the Year Is....

Cy (Iowa State)!

I would have liked to have seen High-Test's eyes light up with Thundar getting the love. But unfortunately, Cy beat out Thundar and others.
