This is the final week of any meaningful games in FBS. I have been lazy with updates, but I still want to have a proper meeting place for college football discussion. Having said this, welcome to a new week.

This is the week where conference champions will be decided. This is the week where a few more rivalries (like Army vs. Navy) will be kicked off. This is the week where all other divisions are continuing their playoffs. This is the week where we prepare to see who all will win awards next week, including the Heisman.

I'll be here to offer college football news. But of course, do not wait on me to post anything. If anything's on your mind in college football, then go right ahead and chat about it here. Among other issues... how do you feel about Charlie Weis being fired by Notre Dame?

Welcome to a new week!

(1) Florida vs (2) Alabama - Game of the week, and true NCAA Championship game.

You bet it is, FoolKiller. That's my GAME OF THE WEEK. Perhaps even THE game this week and this season.

I feel that Weiss is an outstanding offensive coordinator but a not so good head coach. He'll probably have a job by the end of the NFL regular season.

I have to give a fond farewell to coach Bobbie Bowden. A brilliant coaching career indeed. So long Bobbie, the SEC will not be the same without seeing you on the sidelines.

FSU has been in the Atlantic Coast Conference since 1990 or so (formerly an independent). But yeah, their yearly match-ups with UM and UF are going to take some getting used to without Bobby Bowden; as a Gator fan, I'm supposed to dislike him, but he's always been classy and gentlemanly enough within the sport and though the media, so he's never been distasteful. (I could see how people can really be polarized by a Steve Spurrier, though.)

So...will this be Joe Paterno's last season? Any thoughts?

I have a problem this weekend. I am supposed to be working on getting the nursery ready. We are six months in and it looks like a dump truck of baby stuff has been dropped in there. We are supposed to clean it out and put the new furniture all together. Basically everything but paint.

But I have the North Carolina @ Kentucky Basketball game at 12:30 and the SEC football championship game at 4:00.

My current plan is to have every TV tuned into CBS all day (there is a small one in the soon to be nursery that will be getting moved) so that I can watch from wherever I am, but I have a feeling my wife will find herself doing most of the work.

Didn't I already explain to you how wrong you are? The Longhorns will be ready for whichever one of those two manage to not lose.

I've watched Florida this season, and I've watched Alamaba. Neither team is a championship team.

I was wondering when you would come in here. You have a point about the referees in the SEC, a point us smaller SEC teams like to comment on. That is a harder case to make after three straight years of those same SEC teams (meaning those supposedly aided by refs) winning championships. If anything we take it as a sign that the SEC has multiple high quality teams, but they don't get a chance because we have to play each other all the time.

And that gets into why many of us SEC fans want a football tournament style system.

I'd offer a friendly wager, but I am just supporting my conference, not the teams. It makes Kentucky's football seasons go easier when we know we lost to the champions.

Hang on a sec... you're getting excited about teams beating over-rated Ohio (twice) and an Oklahoma team that wasn't even the best team in its conference? That's not really something to get excited about.

Just because a team played in the BCS championship game doesn't mean they faced the toughest team in the nation that year, and it doesn't mean they're the best football team in the country. Last year Texas would certainly have beaten Florida. Don't forget, we proved we were better than Oklahoma too by spanking them on the field.

I take what I am given, which is another championship stat (and more cash) in my team's conference.

I thought this sounded familiar, so I looked at last year's thread.

Honestly, we should just make the SEC championship game the NCAA championship game.

Of course, now I wait for the, "But Utah was undefeated!!!!!" talk.

The Utah argument is the perfect example of why we need a tournament. Plus, a tournament would allow teams like Kentucky, who are mediocre in the SEC show that the record is poor because they are in the SEC, not because they totally suck.

Too bad the best team from the Big-12 didn't play the best team from the SEC so that we could find out. Seems like what we really need to do is institute some sort of system in which everyone has a shot at the national championship game based on a series of elimination games in which teams actually prove that they're worthy of advancing.

We could call it a game-off.... or like.... battle-off.... something like that.
And back to the playoff theory. Seriously, even if you just limited it to 4 teams. Usually you can easily point out the top 4. If a little historical trend analysis shows that it would be too hard to just pick 4 then extend it to 8 teams. In fact, I think I like the 8 team idea. Opening games are the Rose, Fiesta, Sugar, and Orange bowls. Then you have the Final Four games, and the Championship Game. And you only added one week to the post season.

Just to point this out again:
Too bad the best team from the Big-12 didn't play the best team from the SEC so that we could find out.
It looks like we will get that chance.

It looks like we will get that chance.

Yup. But once again we're robbed as so many others go undefeated. I'd love to see all of these teams get to play for the title. But at least Florida vs. Alabama gives us a +1 this year.

Major ooops on my part,I said the SEC instead of the ACC. :dopey::lol: Sorry about that slip up.Thanks for the correction Pupik. 👍

Joe Paterno leaving,I don't know. He's way too involved in the PSU football program.I really don't see him leaving Happy Valley just yet. That is another coach who I admire. He too has had a great tenure of coaching. If and when the day does come when he hangs it up,it will be a sad day in the Big 10.

Top of the hour, the Civil War is about to kick off. Win, and you're in, baby! Who will join Ohio State at the Rose Bowl when #1? Oregon State clashes with #7 Oregon in Eugene? We shall see.

You know, it's going to snow here in Houston tomorrow. It will be the earliest on record here in Southeast Texas. Whether wet or dry, nothing's going to stop me from giving you scores.

With only FBS playing, here's a quick report:

Eugene, Oregon - Win and You're In! Who'll Meet Ohio State in the Rose Bowl?
* #18 Oregon State {Beavers} at #7 Oregon {Ducks}
You know it's strange when the Pac-10 championship does NOT involve USCal. When I first got into college football back in 2002, I always seen Oregon as a doormat (but not as much as Stanford or Arizona). I always thought Oregon State were the much better team in the state of Oregon. Now, the Ducks are a powerful bunch. Ducks are the predators as the Beavers are seemingly prey. The Quack Attack got it done at home. (37-33; #7 OREGON)

Bowling Green, Kentucky - Western Kentucky's Brutal Season Ends Hosting Arkansas State
* Arkansas State {Red Wolves} at Western Kentucky {Hilltoppers}
I think Western Kentucky will become formidable in the future. But for this season, it's over. Can the Hilltoppers look forward to next season with a win? No. The Red Wolves finished off WKU, leaving WKU an 0-12 wreck for the season. I expect WKU to win at least one game starting next season. Looks like an unhappy holidays for the Hilltopper football team.. (24-20; Arkansas State)

A few other notes... Northeastern University (Boston, MA) has decided to drop football. Well now, Hofstra University (Hempstead, NY) will drop its football program. Not sure if it's the economic climate or not enough interest, but sad to see Hofstra Pride football and Northeastern Huskies' football go.

No football for Friday. Remember, the GAME OF THE WEEK will be #1 Florida vs. #2 Alabama in the ATL. Since it's Friday right now, I see nothing but SNOW outside! Unusual stuff for Southeast Texas.

Was hoping the Beavs would win, but a truly great game none the less 👍

Any of you have thoughts on Eric Mangino being resigned at Kansas? And can he be the head coach of some other school?

Central Michigan won the MAC title by beating Ohio 20-10. Congratulations to the Chippewas!

Saturday football about to kick off. Don't forget- my GAME OF THE WEEK is #1 Florida vs. #2 Alabama for the SEC Championship.

Cincy @ Pitt is going to be an ESPN instant classic. Nothing like a TD to win the game with :33 left on the clock to win the Big East Championship. Hard to beleive Cincy was down by 21 at one point.

Cincy 45, Pitt 44

#2 Alabama knocks off #1 Florida 32 - 13. The win puts Nick Sabens Crimson Tide into the National Championship game. They are awaiting the outcome of the #3 ranked Texas Longhorns -vs- #22 Nebraska Cornhuskers. If Texas wins, they are in,if Texas loses ... well this could get really interesting.Pending the BCS rankings, could somebody like Cincinnati,TCU,Boise State sneak into the National Championship game ? We all are well aware of the inconsistencies of the BCS rankings. What will the computers say ?

I'm just happy Florida won't be in it again. I also hope Texas loses as it will mean someone not in the Big 12 or Big Ten will play in it.

Great game between Texas and Nebraska.A play review saved Texas, giving them just one second on the clock to kick the game winning 46 yd. field goal which puts Texas into the National Championship game against Alabama.

So who do you like,Texas or Alabama ?

Going with Alabama.

Alabama is going to walk all over whomever.

That's a sick team. So glad Florida got knocked off. I'm tired of Gators and Canes and Noles fans.

I don't get the last two, they haven't done much recently.

On a related note.:yuck:

Looks like another uninteresting BCS "Championship" game.

It's funny how you say Ohio state has been overrated and then say that Texas would have beaten Florida in the championship after barely beating ohio state in their bowl game. If it wasn't for the OSU linebackers lining up 2 yards behind the D line on Texas's last TD, OSU beats Texas last year. I'm a huge buckeye fan, but Florida was by far the best team in the country last year.

The Gators forgot to pack their game for the trip. 'Bama's just pretty damn good.

So, Texas and Alabama for the title, and Cincinnati plays Florida at the Sugar Bowl. I'm glad Florida at least gets a chance to prove themselves against an unbeaten team from a major conference.

TCU gets Boise State at the Fiesta Bowl; the thought of two undefeated teams sound great on paper, but one of them has to give. So we're going to have a minimum of two unbeaten teams after the dust settles, so the "who-got-shut-out" talk will continue until next Septmeber.

Tebow looked to be crying at the end, but I wonder if that wasn't out of anger. He looked like the only guy on the team giving it his all. Ah well, if the NFL doesn't work out for him he now has a degree to fall back on.

Roll on Tide, and I think the Bearcats will get crushed. I just haven't been impressed with the Big East this year.

I'm going to work on my postseason thread by supplementing bowl game info. I'll let you know what I think about one of the upcoming matches in one of the BCS bowls. Thanks for all the involvement, people! :)
