No. There are no classes on having heart. You can't major in determination. You can't be an All-American in passion. Sometimes in life, we all need some help. Doesn't matter if the weight of the world is on your shoulders, if every negative thing fathomable happens to you very often, or if you're in a dead-end you can't get out of. Face it. We are not all strong. We all need to become our own inspired divas.

Welcome to the new week of college football. Some teams need some soul searching. Some teams have had rough seasons. You sometimes need to delve within your own soul and find out what makes you stronger. What makes you passionate. What drives you each day to be your best. In the eyes of almost all teams- what it is going to take for you to deliver on game day? Teams probably wish angels from Heaven can come down and suit up to help give your team some confidence. Heck, some teams need to find their way as soon as they can. Teams like Michigan, Tennessee, UCLA, Washington, and various other teams are just trying to find their way and see the light.

I've had a tough time deciding between "Soul Searching" and "Heart-to-Heart" for the name of this week's thread. You could say that inspiration and/or motivation would be the theme for this week's thread. I normally don't like doing themed stuff. But when I do get a chance, I like to change things up a bit. I went with "Heart-to-Heart." We all need those big brothers and big sisters in our lives. We need those mothers and fathers. We need a little heart-to-heart every now and then.

Welcome to the new week of college football.

(no FBS scores - starts Thursday)

(no FCS scores - starts Thursday)

Division 2 Scores
* Fayetteville State at Shaw (19-12; SHAW)

(no Division 3 scores - starts Saturday)

I usually have an NFL Focus, but not this time. All I can say is that my Texans finally won beating the Dolphins at home and that the St. Louis Rams won themselves a game. The Detroit Lions (who we have next) lost at the Minnesota Vikings.

Welcome to the new week of college football!

BREAKING NEWS: Tommy Bowden RESIGNED from Clemson after their loss over the weekend. The team is 3-3 and was #9 preseason. The Tigers of Clemson have been a great disappointment. They were always the bridesmaid in the ACC.

You can visit this link for more details courtesy of Yahoo! Sports: < http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=862495 >.

A poll on Yahoo! Sports asked if Clemson was justified in firing Tommy Bowden. As of now, 52% said Clemson WAS justified while 40% say Clemson isn't justified. A total of 9,637 were tallied as of this report.

That's all from me. Take care.

Random injury chatter coming up...

Here's a sad note for the Kentucky Wildcats... with two torn ligaments in his leg or knee, Dicky Lyons Jr. will not play the rest of the season. He may just prepare for the NFL Draft. * A player for Division 2's Mesa State had to have his pinky removed. *

ESPN College Gameday will be at the University of Texas this Saturday for Missouri's visit to Texas. Meanwhile, Penn State is now #3 in the nation as they will host Michigan. This begins a tough stretch for the 2-4 Wolverines as they go to Penn State for this game, then come home to host a ranked Michigan State team in the Paul Bunyan Trophy rivalry. I'm interested as far as how Joey D sees this game and the next.

That's all from here. Hope you have a great day.

Here's a sad note for the Kentucky Wildcats... with two torn ligaments in his leg or knee, Dicky Lyons Jr. will not play the rest of the season. He may just prepare for the NFL Draft.
By NFL Draft you mean in 2010, right? Word on the local sports news this morning was at least 12 months for recovery. He won't even be ready for NFL camps this coming year. He could show up but no one will draft him this year. Maybe if he can show that he will be at full speed on schedule he can go free agent.

Side Note: Dicky Lyons Sr. had his career ended in a very similar injury that ruined his ACL. Rumor is that he shattered his cell phone on the stadium floor when he witnessed his son go down the same way he did. Fortunately for Dicky Jr. this is an MCL and PCL(?), which has a much better chance of recovery. The bright note to this is that because of swelling the MRI was inconclusive and it may not be as bad as thought, but it can also be worse.

It's still a tough break for Kentucky. I like Dicky Lyons Jr. I have my doubts about Kentucky with Lyons Jr. on the shelf, especially when Kentucky's lost two straight games.

Most people are now starting to put the Big XII over the SEC. If there was ever an inter-conference rivalry like in basketball (example: ACC vs. Big Ten Challenge in basketball), I'd love to see a Big XII vs. SEC challenge. I'd be interested in seeing Texas Tech take on Florida, Kansas taking on South Carolina, Missouri taking on LSU (Tiger Bowl), or how about a Wildcat Bowl- Kentucky vs. Kansas State? While there's no playoff-style football in FBS, something like inter-conference rivalries would be fun to watch. I think the National Championship game could be Big XII vs. SEC. Maybe even Big XII vs. Pac-10. I personally still think the SEC is the hardest conference to take on even if the Big XII caught fire as of late.

It's still a tough break for Kentucky. I like Dicky Lyons Jr. I have my doubts about Kentucky with Lyons Jr. on the shelf, especially when Kentucky's lost two straight games.
Dicky was being under-used this season anyway. Hartline is not a great quarterback and lacks the ability to throw a long pass very well He can do short passes to the side with little problem, but when he needs to put strength into a long pass he loses some of his control and the receivers are left trying to catch a wobbling ball that won't be coming right at their chest.

Dicky is great at pulling big passes out of the air and taking off with them, but these short passes put him in the middle of defenders ready to take him down as soon as the ball is in his hands, so he has very little opportunity to make a big play.

I think Kentucky's biggest loss is of a team leader who could get players pumped for the game. Hopefully he will still be effective at that on the sidelines.

But the changes in offense to adjust to the new quarterback mean that Dicky's loss on the field is much less than if it had happened last season. With or without Dicky my hopes for Kentucky in conference play have not been high. I can't even say for sure if we can pull off the two or three more wins we need to be bowl eligible. Looking at the schedule I think our only other victories will be Arkansas and Mississippi State. And with Dicky going down just before the Arkansas game this weekend I am not sure that the team's morale will be good enough to pull off a victory. Normally Vanderbilt is another team we can beat, but this year's Vandy team is too good. Georgia is a question mark.

Most people are now starting to put the Big XII over the SEC.
The problem with the SEC is that teams that used to be tackle practice for everyone else (Kentucky, Vandy, Mississippi State) have been stepping it up a bit. So as conference play progresses teams begin to not look as good on paper because they have more losses in years past. The SEC's reputation as a tough conference is hurt by the fact that the SEC is a tough conference. It used to be that a couple teams would have their bowl decisions decided by the game between the two because they have both dominated, but as weaker teams become stronger you don't have situations where Florida and Tennessee are fighting to be number one anymore because they've both already taken some losses.

Add in to that the fact that smaller schools are stepping up their game and some recruits are more willing to look at someone like Kentucky than a few years ago. And now a guy who was happy to play backup at Florida for three years feels he can do just as well as a starter at Kentucky in his sophomore year. The talent pool is spreading out more. As conference domination becomes harder the opinion by people not in the conference lowers, but it has nothing to do with some teams getting worse.

I too would like to see more inter-conference play just so that others can see that someone like Florida or LSU didn't lose to Kentucky because they aren't that good anymore, but because Kentucky is now also that good.

Well, I wish Kentucky the very best the rest of the year. Other players have to step up when a key player is out for the season. They're 4-2 and only two or so wins away from going to their third-successive Bowl game. Do you think this year's BCS Championship game could come down to Big XII vs. the SEC? And if so (if you had to pick right now), which two teams would represent their respective conferences in the BCS title game?

Let me chat about South Carolina now. Studentdriver, your Gamecocks will be hosting LSU. After being mightily handled by Florida, LSU thinks the best way to bounce back from a big loss is to feast on Gamecock meat. South Carolina is usually middle-of-the-road (kind of like Purdue in the Big Ten). Do you think South Carolina will tame the Tigers?

The final SEC bit for this post involves Tennessee. Mike Hamilton (Tennessee athletics director) COULD make a mid-season coaching change. They are the biggest underperformers to me. I like Tennessee, but this is not the Tennessee of old. This isn't a team like the 1991 Tennessee Volunteers that won the Sugar Bowl defeating Virginia (1991 team also known as the "Sugar Vols"). This isn't the 1997 Volunteers that won a National Championship with Peyton Manning under center against Nebraska. If things come down to a coaching change, then I hope Tennessee gets better quickly. Otherwise, they'll be pathetic jokes of 2008. Last year's pathetic joke was Notre Dame.

Bill Martin (Michigan Athletics Director) has defended Rich Rodriquez saying he's the right man for the job. Well, how can you be sure he's the man if you are on a 2-4 team in jeaprody of their worst record in a while as well as missing their first postseason game in at least 30 years. By the way, former Michigan player and Cleveland Brown, Braylon Edwards, was spotted wearing a Penn State T-shirt. This was during Monday Night Football when Braylon Edwards was interviewed. Here's the video. And I have to warn you... you may need to turn up the volume to hear what he's saying. Not so much listen to what he's saying, but look at what emblem is on his jersey:

The info on this video called Rich Rodriguez (sometimes nicknamed Rick-Rod) to... well, I can't say it because it's vulgar. The guy who posted the video talked about possibly Braylon Edwards wearing a Penn State jersey because of Michigan's loss to Toledo at home. Even still, support your school. Don't forget where you came from.

The ESPN matchup for tonight is Florida State going to North Carolina State. Or, you can choose BYU at TCU. That's right- the Fort Worth boys hosting the hottest Cougars in America (not my hometown Houston Cougars, unfortunately). I will also have FCS and Division 2 games for you when my report is complete.

This begins a tough stretch for the 2-4 Wolverines as they go to Penn State for this game, then come home to host a ranked Michigan State team in the Paul Bunyan Trophy rivalry. I'm interested as far as how Joey D sees this game and the next.

I'm guessing Michigan will lose to both Penn State and MSU. I still like U of M and I still watch the games but they way they are playing this year I just can't see them winning these two games at all...especially after the loss to Toledo.

You know "Whatever you Like" by T.I.? Well, if what you like is college football, that's what I give. And you KNOW you can have whatever you like as far as college football goes.

Division 1: FBS Scores

Raleigh, North Carolina - Resurgent Florida State Meets a Mediocre North Carolina State
* Florida State (Seminoles) at North Carolina State {Wolfpack}
The ESPN match was Florida State at NCSU. This was the big match since people think BYU at TCU is going to be a BYU beatdown (find out who got beat down in the next score!). North Carolina State scored the only touchdown of the first half as they led 10-6 over Florida State. Florida State stays strong as the Tallahassee unit takes care of the Wolfpack. The Seminoles will take a victory back to Tallahassee. (26-17; Florida State)

Fort Worth, Texas - Horned Frogs Aren't Afraid of Any Cougars from Utah
* #? BYU {Cougars} at TCU {Horned Frogs}
Time to meet the weirdest breed of amphibians anywhere in the world. They wear purple and are known as the Horned Frogs. There's no Jim McMahon to these BYU Cougars, but this #9 team probably has never been better since the Jim McMahon days. Now on to the game. TCU led 23-0 at the half. Ouch! Someone needs a little heart-to-heart. BYU was overrated to Texas Christian. They beat them like they were an FCS school. Almost as if they were playing Stephen F. Austin State (or somebody) instead of BYU. (32-7; TEXAS CHRISTIAN)

NOTE: If it means anything, Lou Holtz had one of his own Pep Talk segments for Missouri. Some say that the team that gets one of these pep talks will likely lose. Texas is the higher-ranked team. My GAME OF THE WEEK this week involves Missouri at Texas. A dangerous Big XII North team takes on a Big XII South team full of character. My home state's best team is ranked #1 as Missouri comes to Austin. So be sure to check into this thread to see who gets her done Saturday.

Division 1: FCS
Just one game. I get my Tennessee cities confused as to who belongs to which. So I'll give a quick score here.

* Tennessee-Martin {Skyhawks} at Tennessee Tech {Golden Eagles} (35-7; Tennessee-Martin) <<< Rivalry Game

Division 2 Scores
CBS College Sports featured a match between Western State and Mesa State, but a bigger match was in the works in a good old American Southeast battle.

Fort Junction, Colorado - A Maverick Makes a Sacrifice... Can His Team Acheive Heaven?
* Western State {Horses} at Mesa State {Mavericks}
Sacrifice a pinky... win a football game? Offensive lineman, Trevor Wikre, amputated his pinkie to play football so he can continue to play football. His Mavericks will host the Mountaineers of Western State College. Two Colorado schools are ready to go at it. I'm willing to give this a pass (as in a success) because Mesa State's Mavericks had the munchies for a victory... and got it. At least this win gives Mesa State College some face time as the Mountaineers lost by ten. (29-19; MESA STATE)

OFF-TOPIC - At the end of one end zone over the gate, there's a McDonald's. So just for fun... are you running into the end zone, or wanting to break through that gate to go feast on a Big Mac after the game? ^_^ Personally, I like McDonald's fries, a chicken club sandwich, and a 3 or 5-pack of Chicken Selects with ranch dressing. Sorry to make any of you hungry! Just seems pretty funny that you look over one end zone and see a restaurant in one end zone. I guess if you're hungry for something other than victory, you'll need to keep your head in the game and make sure not to get the munchies seeing a restaurant in the direction of one end zone.

Now the final two scores to report:

* #2 North Alabama at #10 Delta State (34-28; #10 DELTA STATE)
* Mary at Northern State (34-31, OT; Mary)

That's all. The ESPN network match for Friday night will be Hawaii's visit to Boise State. These are two of the best in the WAC conference. Get ready for a football match in potato country!

OK, so there seems to be a rumor that Dicky Lyons, Jr. has been called by the Jets letting him know that when he heals he shoudl give them a call because they will be interested. This is all word of mouth through people that know the family though, so it could be nothing.

If this is true it looks like missing out on a draft won't hurt him too much at all. Good for him and if he is catching pases from Brett Favre it can only help.

Since Dicky Lyons Jr. is from New Orleans, he could get drafted by the Saints or for my Texans. Maybe even your Rams, FoolKiller.

I'll be sure to have Friday results when I complete my Friday report. No Division 3 action until Saturday. I try to focus on all divisions of NCAA football because I'll never know how many fans of non-FBS schools I get. I got a comment complimenting my coverage of a game involving Division 2's Slippery Rock University. Brigham Young gets upset as well as North Alabama. Will the upset bug bite teams tonight and tomorrow? We shall see.

I was looking around on YouTube Wednesday. A sign of a lack of composure and sportsmanship is when a brawl takes place. Undisciplined teams get into all kinds of trouble. So as a heart-to-heart, this one is about discipline.

EXTRA: Most Infamous College Football Fights and Cheap Shots
Discipline. Sportsmanship. Whether you have it, or you don't. These following incidents are those where composure gave way to roughing up the other team in a lack of sportsmanship. Here are some of the more infamous brawls in college football. Click on the links to see the brawls as they happen:

* 1993: Miami at Colorado - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qT8HPI9N2Sg
For some reason, a simple kick off went into the end zone. Then next thing you know it (during a promo on ABC), a fight breaks out. It was hard to determind just what happened.

* 1971: USCal at Notre Dame - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zgzXSbuyB8
Notre Dame causes a fumble on USCal. As USCal attempted to get the ball back, a Notre Dame player lifted up a Trojan off the ground. Then afterwards, a bench-clearing rumble ensues. Notre Dame would lose 28-14 to USCal that day.

* 1978: Ohio State vs. Clemson (Gator Bowl) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEVJyf0ft3I
Here's how this goes... Ohio State attempts a pass play. Player #58 for Clemson picked off Ohio State and ran it back a bit. What happened next? Ohio State coach Woody Hayes basically picks up #58 off the grown and tries to choke him with one hand! This led to a scuffle between the Buckeyes and the Tigers.

* 1983: Clemson at South Carolina - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Yr8ziQLwiw
Two years after Clemson wins the National Championship, Clemson ended up beating South Carolina 22-13 in Columbia. What happened after Clemson ran one last play to run out the clock, South Carolina seemed to instigate a little brawl. A light-hearted comment about the brawl noted that this was "Family Fun" in center field.

* 2006: Holy Cross at Dartmouth - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aikzTT-uPLg
The same weekend Miami and FIU had their melee, Holy Cross beat Dartmouth 24-21 in Overtime. Then afterwards, the two just didn't like each other.

Maybe the biggest of them all...

* 2006: Florida International at Miami - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNypDGoC_8M
Some people have called the University of Miami as "Thug U" because of incidents like this. Miami won 35-0, but this fight took a toll on both Miami and FIU. As I noted the score, it was just 14-0 with about 9:00 left in the third quarter. Who gets frustrated trailing by just two touchdowns?

Now let's look at cheap shots.

EXTRA: Cheap Shots in College Football

* 2006: Virginia at #18 Boston College - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xvc3N1BXsjQ
This was a cheap shot and a bad call at the same time. Brent Musburger and company commented on this incident. Keep in mind that #69 Butler was called for a foul, but #56 Washington for Boston College gets ejected. Find out who was CLEARLY in the wrong and should have been ejected by watching the video.

* 2006: #?? Virginia Tech at Boston College - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVisMXXrgBw
Down 20-3 with about 5:03 left in the game, Chris Ellis of VT committed a late hit personal foul on a cheap hit after the whistle was blown.

* 2007: #1 USCal at Washington - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnhFY3BkXMI
Shareece Wright clobbers Jake Locker (QB, Washington). The crowd in Seattle was restless. The YouTube info on this game talked about this hit being a "thug hit."

Let's hope teams keep their composure and don't make fools of themselves. Come back here later tonight or early Saturday morning to see what teams won what games.

Prepare to get your inspiration, one down at a time. College football on GTPlanet provided by me. Get your love right here!

Division 1: FBS Scores
Can you believe it? This is the only game tonight!

Boise, Idaho - Green Meets Blue in Potato Country
* Hawaii {Warriors} at #15 Boise State {Broncos}
The Northwest just got a lot colder. Go from paradise in Honolulu to a cool (or cold) day in Boise. Only thing cold was the [Rainbow] Warriors' offense as the Boise State Broncos stampeded Hawaii into next week. (27-7; #15 BOISE STATE)

(no FCS scores - resumes Saturday)

(no Division 2 scores - resumes Saturday)

(no Division 3 scores - starts Saturday)

Here is a little lineup of games for Saturday:

FBS:
* Arkansas at Kentucky <<< 2-game losing streak for Kentucky
* Mississippi at Alabama <<< the Tagger special.
* #16 Kansas at #4 Oklahoma <<< this should be a good one. The High-Test special.
* #13 LSU at South Carolina <<< Kent vs. Studentdriver
* Houston at SMU (classic rivalry: Houston vs. Dallas)
* Indiana at Illinois
* Michigan at #3 Penn State <<< Joey D's favorite team meeting a powerful Penn State.

FCS:
* North Dakota State at Northern Iowa <<< should be a good game between two great teams. The other High-Test special.

I'll try to get the results of these games and more in my next report. For now, have an enjoyable and safe weekend. Enjoy the games this weekend. Doesn't matter if it's at the sports bar, with your friends, tailgating... do your thing, you dig?

Allow me to note a few observations...

* Michigan not only lost at #3 Penn State, but get clobbered. It's their first win against Michigan since 1996. Michigan's season is basically over. I see no way they're making the postseason this season for the first time in a long time.

* FoolKiller has reason to celebrate as the Kentucky Wildcats handled Arkansas quite well.

* Maryland shuts out Wake Forest. Wake Forest has avoided bieng shut out since about 1998. For now, they lost 26-0.

* Both of my hometown teams in FBS won their matches. Houston went into Dallas to take down SMU 44-38. Rice defended home ground in their win.

* Tennessee finally remembers what winning feels like as they limited their opponents to a field goal as they won 34-3.

* Tagger will be pleased to know that his Crimson Tide won at home today against Mississippi.

* Texas won my GAME OF THE WEEK in convincing fashion.

A full report will be complete when it's done. After which, I will be naming my winners and losers from this week. Stay tuned for that.

Each day is a beautiful day. That's only if you make each day beautiful. Upper 70s/Lower 80s weather expected here in Houston. I haven't gotten out to enjoy it as of when I started typing this report (12:29 PM CDT), but it's a lovely Saturday. Will this Saturday be lovely for the teams that will clash on the field? Depends. By the way, this was a lovely Saturday here, albeit warm.

Because of me watching the F1 Grand Prix of China, I may not display as many games. I'm sometimes lazy and just want to show off as few scores as possible sometimes. The front-runner for UPSET OF THE WEEK is likely #2 North Alabama in Division 2 losing at #10 Delta State. Will any other significant upsets happen? Let's take a nationwide stroll.

Division 1: FBS Scores
Let's begin in Texas for my GAME OF THE WEEK. Rather than Dallas, we start in Austin.

Austin, Texas - Time to See What the Longhorns are Made Of When Chase Daniel Comes to Town
* #11 Missouri {Tigers} at #1 Texas {Longhorns} *** GAME OF THE WEEK ***
My home state. My home state's best team. Not to mention the #1 team in the nation for the first time in 24 years. Not even Vince Young's Longhorns were #1 in the nation as they settled for #2 against #1 USCal in that classic Rose Bowl game in 2006. The Longhorns will try and defend home turf from the Missouri Tigers. A convincing Longhorns win was all that was needed to keep Texas atop the FBS food chain. (56-31; #1 TEXAS)

DID YOU KNOW...
...that Missouri has never beaten Texas in Texas since 1896? They are also 0-10 all-time against #1 teams in the AP poll.

We stay in Texas and check in with the other three Big XII teams in Texas.

College Station, Texas - Aggies Try To Turn Around Their Season... Texas Tech Refuses to Give Them a Lift
* #7 Texas Tech {Red Raiders} at Texas A&M {Aggies}
The Texas A&M Aggies have only two wins so far. Will they and the 12th Man upset Texas Tech? Texas Tech still blew out Texas A&M. Didn't matter if there was a 13th Man or a 130th man- they still got mauled viciously. (43-25; #7 Texas Tech)

NOTE: Later this season, #1 Texas goes to #7 Texas Tech. Should be an interesting rivalry game. Longhorns and Red Raiders don't like each other.

Stillwater, Oklahoma - Boone-Pickens Stadium Picks a Fight With Baylor
* Baylor {Bears} at #8 Oklahoma State {Cowboys}
Maybe I have "So What?" from Pink in mind with this intro. We're all going to get in a fight, but especially Baylor and Oklahoma State. But really, Baylor's in the fight of their lives trying to upset the Cowboys of Oklahoma State. [/B]No upset here- just teeth missing from the Baylor Bears. The Big XII's only Baptist university(?) took an unholy beating.[/B] (34-6; #8 OKLAHOMA STATE)

Now let's go to some other schools.

Dallas, Texas - Southern Methodist Seeks Methods to Whack Cougars
* Houston {Cougars} at Southern Methodist {Mustangs}
Houston has been to SMU's stadium before when they played against Air Force as Hurricane Ike threatened the Houston area. Now the Cougars have this reunion... as the Away team. The Scarlet and Albino White will meet the SMU Mustangs. Down 14-0 ealier in the game, another furious C-USA offensive shootout saw Houston vault over SMU. (44-38; Houston)

Columbia, South Carolina - Gamecocks About to Wrestle with Some Tigers
* #13 LSU {Tigers} at South Carolina {Gamecocks}
Studentdriver is hoping his Gamecocks take care of LSU. South Carolina would love to see the Tigers of LSU get tamed by some game Gamecocks. A tight fit of a game saw LSU escape South Carolina with a victory. (24-17; #13 Louisiana State)

Here's a special just for you, Studentdriver...

Buffalo, New York - Eastern New York Upstate Meets Western New York Upstate
* Army {Black Knights/Cadets} at Buffalo {Bulls}
The Army Black Knights strolled into Buffalo to meet some boys in blue. Those blue guys happen to be the Buffalo Bulls. A comeback by Buffalo to force Overtime led to Buffalo kicking a money field goal to take down Army. (27-24, OT; BUFFALO)

Lexington, Kentucky - Wildcats Wonder What Fried Razorback Tastes Like
* Arkansas {Razorbacks} at Kentucky {Wildcats}
The city of Lexington, Kentucky may not be the capital of Kentucky, but they are the capital of [Kentucky] Wildcats' Country. Their arena of football is Commonwealth Stadium. The Wildcat faithful likely can't wait to see basketball action at Rupp Arena with the Wildcats of the hardwood. Meanwhile, the gridiron boys will meet Arkansas. The Razorbacks are ready to cut up Kentucky. I've heard that Kentucky had to make a comeback as best as they could. Kentucky won themelves a game by only one. (21-20; KENTUCKY)

Bowling Green, Kentucky - Hilltoppers Try to be as Successful as UK Today
* Florida Atlantic {Owls} at Western Kentucky {Hilltoppers}
The WKU Hilltoppers are ready to handle FAU as best as they could. Unfortunately, the Owls were the wisest in this match winning a close game. Make no mistake about it- Florida Atlantic is a talented Sun Belt team. The Owls were just better. (24-20; Florida Atlantic)

Louisville, Kentucky - Cardinals Think Messing With Louisville is a Cardinal Sin
* Middle Tennessee State {Blue Raiders} at Louisville {Cardinals}
The final game in this Kentucky trifecta involves Louisville in non-conference action against Middle Tennessee State. The Cardinals are the red team in this match going up against the Blue Raiders of MTSU based in Murfreesboro, TN. The Blue Raiders got raided mightily by the Cardinals. Head back to Murfreesboro with plenty of first aid and rest. (42-23; LOUISVILLE)

Tuscaloosa, Alabama - Crimson Tide Think They Belong in the National Title Game
* Mississippi {Rebels} at #2 Alabama {Crimson Tide}
It's time tosee what Tagger's Crimson Tide can do against Mississippi. The Crimson Tide made all the fans in Bryant-Denny Stadium (all 90K+) happy with a rebellious win against the Rebels. I wonder what Paul "Bear" Bryant thinks of this Alabama team... (24-20; #2 ALABAMA)

The following games are beatdowns. Find one you like in this next batch of scores!

Iowa City, Iowa - Wisconsin's Overrated According to Iowa
* Wisconsin {Badgers} at Iowa {Hawkeyes}
The Hawkeyes probably should have been better regarded as the Wisconsin Badgers could do nothing but concede to Iowa's awesomeness. (38-16; IOWA)

Champaign, Illinois - Border States Clash Between Two Great Basketball Schools
* Indiana {Hoosiers} at Illinois {Fighting Illini}
Hip-hop artist Ludacris was born in Champaign, Illinois. One of his songs was "Act a Fool." That's what these two teams are going to do as border states throw down to see who's better. The Fighting Illini simply beat up the Hoosiers, asking Indiana... "Hoosier daddy?" (55-13; ILLINOIS)

College Park, Maryland - Fear the Turtle, Wake Forest!
* #21 Wake Forest {Demon Deacons} at Maryland {Terrapins}
Taking nothing away from the Maryland Terrapins, the Demon Deacons moved like turtles as Maryland overtook Wake Forest like they were still the team that would constantly fall on their faces. First time they got blanked since 1998(?). (26-0; MARYLAND)

If you read some of my observations, you already know who won some of these games. Now the full report is here.

State College, Pennsylvania - Michigan's Season May be Over, but They STILL Have Plenty of Fight
* Michigan {Wolverines} at #3 Penn State {Nittany Lions}
I gave Joey D the benefit of the doubt. I still think this is a Michigan team that can win games and play spoiler. I think the Wolverines that stunned Wisconsin are still there. Sadly, that Michigan didn't show up as Penn State had a feasting frenzy on one of the most ferocious animals in FBS. (46-17; #3 PENN STATE)

Albuquerque, New Mexico - The Aztecs Refuse to Go Away Quietly
* San Diego State {Aztecs} at New Mexico {Lobos}
The University of New Mexico is wonderful in sports. Good football team, great men's basketball team, a very nice Formula SAE racing program... this is a competitive university. The Lobos are a model of consistency and capability. The other team isn't. San Diego State is the most pathetic school in football as New Mexico knocked out San Diego... hard. (70-7; NEW MEXICO)

Pullman, Washington - Trojans Just Wanna Have Fun
* #6 USCal {Trojans} at Washington State {Cougars}
The Trojans scored at least 20 points for three quarters except one- the Third Quarter. The Cougars learned why the Pac-10 is usually called the "USCal and Pac-9." (69-0; #6 Southern California)

Athens, Georgia - Bulldogs Try to Hang Tough Against Some Upstart Commodores
* #22 Vanderbilt {Commodores} at #10 Georgia {Bulldogs}
The Bulldogs may have likely knocked Vandy from the Top 25 with this 10-point loss. The Commodores from Nashville had to accept this crushing loss. (24-14; #10 GEORGIA)

Charlottesville, Virginia - Cavaliers Think Slam Dunk Over Tar Heels
* #18 North Carolina {Tar Heels} at Virginia {Cavaliers}
Virginia's Overtime touchdown was all that was needed as North Carolina could only manage three points. The Cavaliers stunned the Tar Heels as the Tar Heels were working with something special. (16-13, OT; VIRGINIA)

Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts - Hokies Seek a Win on the Road Against Some Other Kinds of Birds
* #17 Virginia Tech {Hokies} at Boston College {Eagles}
The Hokies are good, but not good enough in trying to tame Boston College. The Eagles soared higher than Virginia Tech on this day. (28-23; BOSTON COLLEGE)

* #1 Grand Valley State at Findlay (34-10; #1 Grand Valley State) <<< if beating teams get boring, join FCS, GVSU! It would mean Michigan having their only FCS team if they do decide to step up to FCS. That is, unless Oakland or Detroit start/reinstate football.

John's Winners and Losers
Time to see who made what lists.

BIGGEST WIN OF THE WEEK - Tennessee Gets Themselves a Much-Needed Win in Convincing Fashion[/COLOR]
I think Tennessee forgot what the team used to be. This win puts them back with something to smile about. Let's see if this turns around their season some.

MOST DISAPPOINTING LOSS(ES) OF THE WEEK - Wake Forest Shows NO Effort to Stop Maryland
Ranked teams don't lose in blowouts to unranked and not-very-good teams. Wake Forest fell on their faces and looked silly on TV when they took on the Terps.

UPSET(S) OF THE WEEK - #2 North Alabama Gets Stung By #10 Delta State
The North Alabama Lions weren't expecting a loss like they endured. They lost by six, but it was just enough for this school to fall and fall hard.

OWNAGE OF THE WEEK - #6 USCal Puts up 69 on Washington State in First-Class Pounding
Poor Washington State... they must have woke up to a nightmare when USCal came to Pullman, Washington. Only good news? They could have won 70-0. Otherwise, you cats still got owned... bad. From Texas to the Pacific Northwest...

Washington State = OWNED 69-0 by USCal!

I'll have next week's thread prepared. I may do an extra regarding religious schools and some of the philosophies. Next week's thread will come around when it's ready. Thank you very much for reading. I hope you have an awesome weekend. See you in next week's thread!

I figured Michigan would loose but not that bad, they were even up 10 at one point. Oh well there is always next week. Good thing is Michigan State played awful as well so there is hope!

Lexington, Kentucky - Wildcats Wonder What Fried Razorback Tastes Like
* Arkansas {Razorbacks} at Kentucky {Wildcats}
It was 20-7 with five minutes left. all but about 5,000 people had left the stadium. Twice Arkansas turned it over and in both instances Kentucky grabbed two quick scores. Arkansas lost this one on their own, but Kentucky and Louisville fans both were happy to see Bobby Petrino finally take a loss to the Wildcats.

Louisville, Kentucky - Cardinals Think Messing With Louisville is a Cardinal Sin
* Middle Tennessee State {Blue Raiders} at Louisville {Cardinals}
In the first quarter this game looked bad. Two interceptions by Louisville allowed MTSU to take a 14-0 lead. By half time the Cards came back to only be down 17-14 and the momentum from there carried them on.

Overheard in the stadium restroom at half time: "I don't know why they don't sit Cantwell. It isn't as if it can hurt his NFL chances. He'll be lucky if he can play in Canada."
