GTPlanet, John again. You know I love football. It's sad my Houston Texans didn't do well against Denver. I like the NFL. And since I've been more at home with college football, it's time I go back to reporting games. So read on, people. Of course, when you see a game report, if you see a "*", it's a regular game, or a not-really-big rivalry. But when you see a "@" next to a game, it's a big rivalry game. In fact, next weekend is Ohio State/Michigan. I'll devote an entire post to that game.

STORYLINE

With week 12 underway, we have entered a bigtime rivalry swing. Biggest of this week has to be the game known as "The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry" between the undefeated Auburn Tigers vs. the Georgia Bulldogs. These are two sensational SEC programs, and they'll meet head-on for the win. Auburn needs a good performance so that they can have positive momentum heading into the Iron Bowl next weekend against Alabama. So let's go to work, eh?

SELECT DIVISION 1-A GAMES
* = regular game
@ = big rivalry game
CAPS = the winning team (home team)

+x* GAME OF THE WEEK *x+

@ "Deep South's Oldest Ownage" #5 Georgia at #3 Auburn Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, AL, USA is pretty tough to play in. But what if you are Georgia looking to pay Auburn a little visit? The winning streak has been extended to 20 games, still the best in the nation. During the game, there was a scary head-to-head collision as Reggie Brown for Georgia was tackled hard by Junior Rose?????. As he hit the ground, he looked like his neck snapped pretty bad. Thankfully, he was moving and was alright. Georgia was lucky not to be shut out, as they couldn't find an answer to taming the Auburn Tigers. But Auburn fans, don't celebrate just yet. You still have go to Tuscaloosa, AL, USA- the home of the Alabama Crimson Tide in the "Iron Bowl." [24-6; AUBURN]

* "Tuesday Turmoil" Toledo at Northern Illinois Hard to believe, NIU is a ranked team. They are #22 in the nation heading into this game. Will they press higher? Like a lemon, the NIU Huskies had a good run going, but fell apart to the Toledo Rockets. [31-17; Toledo]

* "Capital Punishment" Texas Christian at Louisville TCU will enter the Mountain West Conference next season and have a lot going for them, but they face the Louisville Cardinals. And they were blown out bigtime.

@ "Pink Floyd of Rosedale" #19 Iowa at Minnesota Who wants a pig known as "Floyd of Rosedale? Iowa does. Minnesota does as well. When two forces want something, they can fight for it, share it, or divide it. In this case, you fight your butt off, and Iowa did just that at Minnesota's home as they won Floyd of Rosedale four consecutive times. [29-27, Iowa]

* "Can't Stop, Won't Stop" #13 Boise State at San Jose State For a moment, it looked like the Spartans (San Jose State University) were going to upset the Boise State Broncos. This was a WAC shootout which seems like there are more Boise State fans than San Jose State fans. [56-49; 2OT; Boise State]

* "Texas Tough" #7 Texas at Kansas Kansas is told to be the preseason favorite in Men's College Basketball, so it would be nice to show that the Jayhawks make an impressive football team as well. The beautiful Kansas University is the battleground as Texas kept the game close, and then just battling hard to keep their winning ways going. [27-23; Texas]

@ "Something's Gotta Give" Nebraska at #2 Oklahoma OU's pass heavy offense resulted in dropping the bomb on the Cornhuskers. [30-3 OKLAHOMA]

* "Takedown!" #23 Boston College at #10 West Virginia Ladies and gentlemen, we have an upset. West Virginia was a higher-ranked team heading into the battle in Morgantown, WV, USA. [36-17; Boston College]

* "There is Still Hope..." Miami at Virginia The Hurricanes need some positive momentum heading into their rivalry game with Virginia Tech

* "Not So Big Now, Eh?" #4 Wisconsin at Michigan State The Wisconsin Badgers would love to stay undefeated, but in this battle, they face unranked Michigan State in this Big Ten matchup. [49-14; MICHIGAN STATE]

* "Battle of the Beaten" Ohio State at Purdue Big Ten. Former National Champions.

* "All That and a Bag of Chips" Central Michigan at Buffalo The Buffalo Bulls beat the Central Michigan Chippewas.

* "" Houston at UAB (Alabama-Birmingham) Houston may not make a Bowl Game appearance this year, being 3-7 on the season. [20-7; ALBAMA-BIRMINGHAM]
* "Hog Wild" Ole Miss at Arkansas It was not even close as the Arkansas Razorbacks took on the Ole Miss Rebels. Rebellious as Ole Miss were to being shut out, they couldn't do much more as Arkansas overpowered Miss, leaving them to only a field goal. [35-3, ARKANSAS]

* "Shocked Hoosiers" Penn State at Indiana Bloomington, IN, USA is home to a lovely place, Indiana University. The dismal Nittany Lions of Penn State had to get SOMETHING going

* "One Down, One to Go" Northwestern at Michigan Michigan can take the Big Ten title by beating Northwestern and Ohio State. So did they win? Read the title of this report again and you'll get the answer. Next week, it's the big one! The Wolverines meet the Ohio State Buckeyes in the biggest rivalry in college football! For now, congrats, Michigan. [42-20; MICHIGAN]

* "Bowling for Gold" Bowling Green vs. Marshall The Bowling Green Falcons win big over the Thundering Herd.

@ "Defense Football?" LSU vs. Alabama The LSU Tigers took on the Alabama Crimson Tide. Will LSU be washed away by the Crimson Tide, or will the Tigers take down the Tide?
* "Gadzooks!" South Carolina at Florida The S.C. Gamecocks went down to The Swamp in Gainesville. Be careful at this swamp. If you're not careful, you just might become lunch to these 'Gators. Or could the Gamecocks pull it off? The answer- the Gators chomped on to a great victory in Ron Zook's final game as head coach. [48-14; FLORIDA]

* "Tiger Tamers" Clemson at Duke How about this for an upset? Clemson was fresh off of taking down the Miami Hurricanes, leaving the 'Canes to #17 in the nation. Duke must think that Clemson couldn't come back to reality in time to face the Blue Devils. And while Duke's basketball team is gearing up for some 5-on-5 action, Duke's football team upset the Clemson Tigers. [16-13; DUKE]

* "West Coast Sound Off" Washington is still having a very dismal season as the Huskies hosted the California Golden Bears. Does it get any more worse for the co-1991 National Champions? It sure did.

* "Lay the Smack Down On Your Vandy A$$" Vanderbilt at Kentucky The Vanderbilt Cavaliers took on the Kentucky Wildcats. Kentucky's proven to be a solid college basketball team, and they hope to have some support going into the end of this regular season. They get that support by way of a 1-point margin to Vandy. [14-13; KENTUCKY]

* "Unluck of the Irish" Pittsburgh at Notre Dame Notre Dame has some swagger after beating the Tennessee Volunteers. The bad news concerning the Notre Dame win streak is that the Pittsburgh Panthers win with a game-winning field goal to shock South Bend, IN, USA. [41-38; Pittsburgh]

* "I'm a Cowboy, Baby!" Baylor at Oklahoma State So let me tell you about the Baylor Bears. They upset Texas A&M. So they face Oklahoma State after they lost big to the Texas Longhorns. Oklahoma State pulled together and fought the good fight against the Bears to eventually win. [4?-1?; OKLAHOMA STATE]

DIVISION 1-AA

* "Southern Hospitality" Texas Southern at Southern The Southern Jaguars are the #1 team in the Southwest Athletic Conference as they face the winless Texas Southern Tigers of my hometown- Houston, TX, USA. The game is played in Louisiana's capital, Baton Rouge, LA, USA. Apparentely [28-0; SOUTHERN]
* "Got SWAC?" Prairie View A&M vs. Jackson State We got another SWAC fight as the Prairie View A&M Panthers and the Jackson State Tigers went at it. Southern University beat both PVAMU and JSU (I've actually been to the Southern/PV game), so someone is going to get SWAC-ed
* Yale def. Princeton
* Stephen F. Austin def. McNeese State [55-7 STEPHEN F. AUSTIN]
* Sam Houston State lost today.

MY COMMENTARY:

GAME OF THE WEEK: The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry (Georgia at Auburn)

UPSET OF THE WEEK: Wisconsin defeated by Michigan State

BIGGEST WIN: I would have said Texas beating Kansas and staying in the Top 10, but I'm going to give the nod to Miami (FL).

MOST DISAPPOINTING LOSS: Ohio State losing to Purdue. Ohio State and Michigan hit it off next weekend, and Ohio State doesn't need such a loss heading into the biggest game in the nation.

OWNAGE OF THE WEEK: Hawaii got beaten down by Fresno State. MAJOR OWNAGE!

FINAL COMMENTS:
Folks, I think this weekend was more of a tune-up for next week. What may get some college football fans off on the wrong foot is that starting Monday, college basketball will be televised starting with games on Monday. But if you feel at risk, you will love next week. You see, if you want to know what college football is all about, many of the biggest rivalries are going to take place next week. And remember, college football is all about two things: rivalries and school pride. Don't believe me? Turn on your TV when college football is on the air. Ohio State/Michigan. I hear Cal and Stanford will go at it. Oregon meets Oregon State. Utah faces BYU. The dismal Washington faces Washington State. I mean, come on now. Why WOULDN'T you want to see these games if you're a college football fan? Find a TV, find a radio, go online, I don't care. It's going to be a BIG week next week. College basketball isn't the ONLY story in town next week... Week 13 coverage next Saturday. See you then!

I was out of town on saturday with no TV but my brother was calling me with updates and was on the phone with me when rosegreen made that hit and I could tell by his reaction it was huge.. I'm crossing my fingers and praying Auburn doesn't lose and they move up a spot in the rankings.
