GTPlanet, if there is something that makes college football exciting, it's a good rivalry among teams. Think about it. You are part of a great unit, but there is this other unit whom you absoutely HATE to the fullest extent of your heart. There are games in which they aren't settled on the field all the time. In fact, fights among the student body take place, burglaries happen, stuff gets stolen. GTP, if you think high school rivalries are bad, college rivalries can be much worse. So GTPlanet, this is a critical issue that can be much worse if this gets any more intense. How can we stop them GTPlanet? Please help!

Come on, now. You think this thread is about taking a stand like this? No! As far as us college football fans are concerned, this thread is all about what your favorite rivalry or rivalries are. It's time to share your favorite rivalry or rivalries in this thread. Then after talking about them, WHY do you enjoy a certain rivalry or rivalries? I will begin with my commentary, then you follow along.

Michigan/Ohio State With my third year as a college football fan, I still have yet to see the rivalry on TV from start to finish. But this is not only biggest in college football, it's even the most rivalry in American sports PERIOD. They've hated each other for a century and change. These are two of the toughest teams in football. Put them on the same field, it's like a good Super Bowl matchup. Texas/Oklahoma It is being told that in a few years, the neutral site may go away, which is a shame. I may live in Houston, but in Austin, they just do NOT like each other. The crimson and cream of Oklahoma aim to beat down Texas every year for as long as these two places are still functional. Army/Navy I actually enjoy watching these two independents go at it. It is a battle between the two major service academies. Army is a horrible team these days, but seeing the Army and Navy go at it is wonderful. It even is a chance to see the good old President get a good seat watching the game.

What are your favorite rivalries? Reply on!

I have two that stand out to me. The ones you mentioned are top notch, nationally known battles. But for me and my Iowa Hawkeyes, there are two that stand out.

IOWA - MINNESOTA
This game is always the last of the season for both teams. Its the battle for the "Floyd of Rosedale" trophy. Which, if you don't know, is a giant pig. The battle started back in 1935 as a bet between the two state's governors. Iowa lost the first one, and its been a big event ever since. We have won the game the last 4 years, but this year should be a great one in the series. We look pretty tough, and Minnesota is looking the same. With it being the last game of the season every year, there are always big things riding on the game. Great rivalry, that just gets better and better every year.

IOWA - IOWA STATE
This one is a no-brainer huge game. We are in different conferences, but that doesn't stop it from being a giant game. Always one of the first games of the year, the battle with ISU is always a huge one. Just like the Minnesota game, this one battles for a trophy as well, the "Cy-Hawk" Trophy. It was started in 1977, and is always a big part of the win. The two schools are only about an hour and a half apart. So, no matter where the game is every year, there is always a good deal of support for both schools.

In an opposite way with the Minnesota game, the ISU game is always very early in the year, and can be a good sign of things to come. Win it, and you have great momentum for the season. Lose it, like we did this year, and you'll have an uphill battle to get back on track. Always a great game, no matter the standings, rankings, record, rosters, or whatever. Much like how Miami fans hate FSU fans, and Nebraska fans hate Oklahoma fans, when you like the Hawkeyes, you just know you hate Iowa State. Its just the way it works.
