I won't focus on college hockey so much, but I will allow you all a chance to talk about your favorite college hockey teams as this season is still quite young. Recent polls have had Miami University (Oxford, OH) atop the Division 1 hockey polls. But I'm aware they're looking in their rear view mirror for teams like Minnesota, Denver, Colorado College, Michigan, Ohio State, and team like that.

I may contribute some to this discussion, but you're free to talk about this season of college hockey.

I go to the Oakland University games from time to time, I have no idea what division we are in but the games are free and much easier to get into the our basketball games. I'll be sure and give a report on any games I attend this year. I would also like to go to the big tournament we have at Joe Louis Arena every year, I can't think of the name of it, but Michigan, Michigan State, Lake Superior State, and a few other colleges play in it.

Well, that's good. I usually say that I make these threads to offer my comments. However, I say that these are YOUR threads. I stress that all you college sports fans come into my threads and sound off however you like. Getting your responses and your feelings help make these threads of mine successful. They are YOUR threads. Do whatever you want (as long as it's about the college sport in question).

I'm guessing Oakland is in Division 1 hockey. Most of the hockey talk is usually in Division 1 on TV (understandable). So I'm unaware of a lot of other schools. I know only two Division 2 hockey schools: the Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville and the Wildcats of Kentucky. I don't know my teams too well to say who's better than who. I mean, would I put Boston College or Providence over Minnesota or Wisconsin? Is Boston University better than Boston College in hockey? Lots of variables.

So yeah, I made this thread for all of you. Make it your own to describe how the 2007-2008 season goes. My contributions will be limited, so I really would like for you college hockey fans to sound off any way you please.

Wow Michigan is doing quite well. I haven't had much time to follow NCAA hockey this year sadly.

If I'm thinking NCAA Hockey, I normally think of teams like Quinnipiac and Holy Cross mixing it up against other teams. I know that most of the Big Ten (Big Ten in terms of usual Big Ten schools in most other sports) has a pretty strong prescence in Division 1 hockey.

And as far as getting into college sports, some would say that at least you don't see the sort of roughneck fighting you may see at an NHL game. I don't normally watch hockey. I do sometimes catch a college game on CSTV or ESPNU. I'm usually used to seeing teams like Wisconsin and Boston College being among some of the top dogs in NCAA Hockey. I just don't know my teams in terms of who are the best hockey teams. Like, is Providence any good compared to a lot of the other D1 talent? I don't know college hockey too well. I put this out there just to draw a possible audience. I'm going to do the same in 2008 (or technically in a few days) with a college baseball thread.

By the way, Miami University has a beautiful hockey rink unveiled last year. Maybe the Redhawks are an impressive team. We'll see if they'll make the Frozen Four when playoff time comes.

My contributions are limited. Here are the uscho.com rankings. I'm not sure if these are accurate, but here they are:

uscho.com Division 1 Rankings

01 - Miami University (25-3-0)

Pretty competitive league if there are all these ties.

[UPDATE]
(1) These rankings are as accurate as of February 4th, 2008. So still a good job to all of these teams.
(2) There's going to be a big match tonight as #1 Miami University hosts #2 Michigan. This is going to be a huge match between these two hockey powers.

This marks the Frozen Four in Denver. The matchups:

Michigan vs. Notre Dame

and...

North Dakota vs. Boston College

For you, Joey D, the Men's Frozen Four will be in Detroit at Ford Field in 2010. Michigan and Notre Dame can beat each others brains out in such a great matchup. Blue and maize vs. blue and gold. Then the other match is North Dakota and Boston College. Two very good schools, but I'd side with North Dakota in this one. Should be a hell of a match whoever North Dakota matches up against, if North Dakota advances.

Here are results from the Frozen Four matches held today and tonight (as of Thursday)

* #1 North Dakota! vs. #2 Boston College (6-1; Boston College)
* #1 Michigan! vs. #4 Notre Dame (5-4, OT; Notre Dame) <<< Notre Dame's first(?) Frozen Four appearance in history

! = top seed

So this title will be between Boston College and Notre Dame. North Dakota was shut out until late. North Dakota's out. Michigan's out. Those are two of the best in NCAA Hockey. Sure would be interesting to see who leaves Denver with a National Championship.
