Hey guys - only noticed yesterday on my XMB that I had a Windows icon appear in my Photos, Music, and Video sections. After a quick Google I realised that I can connect my PS3 to my PC. I have only recently bought a new PC so the previous one must not have had this capability.

I have tried several different internet and YouTube tutorials but cannot get the two to connect. The most common guide available on web tells me to open Windows Media Player and select Library and then Add to Library, but I cannot find this option, even though I am using the latest version of WMP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if anyone needs any additional information then please ask away. Thanks in advance.

I use PS3MediaServer. It pretty much lest the PS3 to access all your hard drives on your PC.

I also tried this last night - the actual application downloads and creates desktop shortcut fine, but when I open it a dialog box appears saying that the app needs 'Java Runtime Environment 7.0' to work, and will now download and install. Then nothing happens for approx 20secs until another box appears saying download was not successful as connection timed out:tdown:

Try downloading Java Runtime Environment 7.0 manually, if you google it I'm sure you'll find it, then try again.

I remember that this option on the PS3 caused my system some problems. I can't remember what the problem was, only that turning the media server off fixed it. Might have just been my system, I don't know.

Ive always kept it off. When i was at college it would slow my PS3 down as it pulled up every PC/media device hooked into the campus's internet. lol

I think the problem is...
Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Homegroup > Advanced Sharing Settings (Make sure Public sharing is turned on) And also disable the password requirement for home group.

Then after that go back to... Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
click the "Full Map" option and your PS3 should be the Unkown Device. Enable it for sharing.

Another here for Ps3 Media Server. So simple to use I explained to my wife over the phone how to access a movie stored on our pc, and that's saying something.

Cheers Shaun.

ive had this on 2 PS3's (both orignal 60GB fats) on two different routers, where the internet would constantly cut out unless media server turned off.
