The Continental Mark II was a luxury coupé produced by Ford's Continental Division in 1956 and 1957. The car was styled by John Reinhart and Gordon Buehrig.
Styling was very simple and elegant, almost european, and little chrome was used in contrast to the increasingly flamboyant and chrome-laden Cars from other american makes.
It was powered by a 368ci Lincoln Y-Block V8 with 285bhp and 402lb-ft. These figures rose to 300bhp and 415lb-ft for the 1957 model year. Power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a 3-speed Turbo Drive automatic. The car was hand-built to very high quality standards, including multiple coats of paint, hand sanding, double lacquering, and polishing to perfection.
The curb weight is 5000lbs.
Around 3000 cars were made, and Ford lost approximately 1.000$ on every car, despite a hefty price tag of 9.695$ that made it the most expensive made car in 1956 (in 1957, GM launched the 13.074$ Cadillac Eldorado Brougham).
It's rarity, it's design and it's built quality make it one of the most desirable and collectible american cars from the post-war period.
