Controlling your drift ?'s...

ok,
In a lot of the videos Ive seen that when the people are drifting their cars the front wheels are hardly moving once tehy countersteer. When Im drifting this is most likely because Im still learning I steer much more than they do. So when you guys drift do get the wheels turned to where you want them and then just adjust the car by giving it more/less throttle, braking, and e-braking?? I think I countersteer TOO much and that gets me wayy sideways and then I spin out. Also, what do you do if you know your going to drift to the outside of the turn? I know if you too close in you just e-brake but Im not too sure about being too far outside. Thanx for your help:D

This is an extremely complicated subject and if you wait for a bit i hope to put out a good faq that covers these types of ?'s in detail...

If you're countersteering there should be no smoke on the front tires. If you have a steering wheel instead of a controller then it will pretty much want to go to that position when you're drifting, there will be less resistance there. Personally, I use only the throttle and brakes to control the oversteer/understeer. The only time I am really putting input into the steering wheel is entering the corner. Otherwise, I might nudge it a little here and there but that's about it. Everyone has their own style though, there isn't really a "wrong" way as long as it gets the job done.

i dunno buddy, if u watch bustwaves battle vid against Drift260z, he did really well on the counter-stear. I think its a trait of sim tyres...
But yeah, if u use a controller, its very hard to keep the front tires from smoking, understear and overstear have to be controled by the throttle...

just keep practicing, all i can say is, just learn how to balance ur car around. use the ebrake when u get more familiar with executing a drift. b/c the ebrake's pretty useless on FR cars unless its a really sharp turn, or u wanna get a better angle on a drift. and watch alotta drift vids, whether its GT3, option, or anything. it usually helps to imitate a drift technique u see the PROs use.

ya Ive been watching some drift videos to see what the pros do. I need to get some more $$ and buy some dvds off of ebay.

You can control the car with no steering at all or just steering. I used to just floor it through the turns with the wheel while drifting, and just use steering imput to control the car.
