I was looking for a little advice on the best/fastest avi converter.

I have a server that holds all my movies in avi format that i stream around my home to a couple of laptops and an Xbox. I have recently added my PS3 to play the movies on my main TV but am finding that some of the files are not in a format the PS3 can read.

I understand that this is a simple fix by just converting the files, can anyone please suggest a simple to use converter that i can maybe just drag and drop and convert the files with the minimal of fuss.:sly:

I have had a look on the internet and can fine some reasanable priced converters out there that are all singing and dancing but i only want a simple interface that will just convert for PS3. I have also tried a free one but it wanted to convert a 1.2gig file in 9 hours and i couldent stack the files in a queue.:indiff:

Many Thanks in advance.

I'm certainly no expert but I have spent a lot of time converting video files using different software and the two that I like the best are Any Video Converter and Dr. Divx. It's been out for a while but I haven't taken the time to use it yet but DivX Plus Converter looks to be pretty good, too. As for speed, it takes about the same amount of time to convert as it would to watch the video, on my laptop at least. And yes, you can batch convert with both. :D:tup:

If you need any help with setting either/both of them up, let me know.

I have been using Hamster Free Video Converter. Seems to work pretty good and and you can't beat free. Drag n drop then just click on the icon whether it be the ps3, iPhone, etc....

I use a program called AVIdemux.

It is free and allows you to save in a wide lot of codecs and formats.

You should also install K-Lite codec pack for best results.

I use handbrake's M4V container for all of my DVD rips, as it supports AC3 audio. I'm pretty sure the PS3 supports M4V now. So that may be worth checking out also. You can queue up conversions, and on my machine at least, it only takes around 15-25 minutes to convert a full length DVD.

+1 to Handbrke, it does support MP4/M4V's now... Dunno if this is available on non Mac systems but MPEG Streamclip is also handy for dealing with MP4/M4V's

+2 for handbrake, I used on mac for converting files to MP4 also I use QuickTime pro for converting .mov files to MP4. If you want a versatile bit of software and it be free then Handbrake is a must.
