I've been messing around with some carmaker online configurators lately. I'm wondering what you guys like in them, who you think is best or most fun to mess with.

Fiat's UK configurator is just plain awesome. It's full 3D, and runs quite well, but the options are limited...it's not a pick-and-choose dealio.

Alfa Romeo also is pretty good, although you have to select a particular model to do anything with it.

Yes, Scion. It doesn't run great, but it does pretty good, and at least you can put every single TRD accessory onto your car right there. It results in some pretty mean lookin' cars.

EDIT: Forgot one...

Porsche. It's so epic, it will bring your computer to a grinding halt at times.

NOTE: I've changed the link...you'll have to navigate to it using the "build my Porsche" link.

I've always liked VW's configurator, a good mix of stuff to show you what you're selecting and having it applied to the car. I know with the Rabbit you can watch a movie starring your car at the end, they did it with the GTI for a while as well. VW keeps it fresh by updating it frequently, and I really like that.

Yah I've established the best configurators in general are the ones that actually show the model of car you chose, the wheels, and the accessories as well as the various interior bits. Porsche and VW are the best one's I've found so far. The one's I really don't like are the domestic sites, such as GM and Ford where they don't even show the exact model or bodystyle you chose.

I've spent hours configuring my own Veyron or 911 turbo. The amount of choices with the Veyron make it video game-esque and there's just a lot of cool stuff to be had on the Porsche site.

The best configurators I've ever used are ones I got on CD with magazines, and both are from BMW - one for the 1-series, and one for the first gen MINI. They let you change bodykits, colours, wheels, interior bits and everything else. They let me do this to a 1-series coupe:

Other than that, the best configurators are unofficial ones: Dubmodder, for various VWs, and Bus Selecta, where you can configure all different varieties of VW Bus, Beetles, old Porsches and other old VWs.

Link to the Veyron configurator?

Ferrari had one, but took it down as soon as the general public found it. Lamborghini also has one, but it's not available to us on the web. I got a chance to see it in action, though, and it's very cool. It works a lot like Ferrari's where you can see every single option on the car.

Because it's Ferrari. 💡

No, they wanted it to be exclusive to potential owners. When it got out, everyone ran to the site, and Ferrari knew there weren't that many owners constantly trying out different combos, and saving them under silly names.

That makes absolutely no sense. (To me anyways) What do they care if the general public make dream combos of their cars? It's not like they're being wrecked in a video game! :dopey:

It's Ferrari. If you can't afford their cars, they don't give a crap about you.

The Fiat one is awesome, if you want a totally unique car then pick the 500 and go for it. Sooo many options!

I'm bored, so I thought I'd start a thread for you to share your favorite car configurations. Many manufacturers have car configurators on their websites, including Ferrari, Lexus LFA, Bentley, and Koeniggsegg. Please share screenshots and information about your favorite configuration.

Oh how I loved configuring F430s, some day...
Here is my ideal 458:
Rosso scuderia of course, standard wheels (all of them have the optional ones, plus if I were to get different ones I'd probably go with some HREs) Yellow brake calipers to match the yellow rev counter, the side shields are pretty much a must with most ferraris, get the sensors and other conforts such as homelink etc and finish it off with a cuoio interior and daytona seats with black inserts
