hey guys

I my ps3 was having some problems or my GT5 game was corrupted or something so i decided to do the save mode option:

"Restore File System - Attempts to repair all areas on the hard disk drive where files can be saved. Corrupted data may be erased if it cannot be recovered."

It actually found out there were corrupted files and it fixed them, i think, but before i did this i copied to my 16GB USB the saved data so i wouldnt lose all my progress and cars from GT5, but now it wont let me restore that data, or paste or whatever, it cant even find any files in the USb, but when i plug it in my laptop i can see the copied files. what am i doing wrong?

i also noticed that there is a backup option... but isnt that the same as copying the saved data or i actually should have backed up instead of copying and therefore i lost all my progress and cars on GT5 ?????

plz help, plz tell me that yes i can restore the files i copied, just tell me what am i missing. plz

Are the files that you can see in a folder called "PS3"?
If so, then I don't why the ps3 can't find it.
If not then make a folder called PS3 on your usb stick and put the files in there and try again....

Good luck.

Also did the restore take your data back to before any updates? Just a thought.

Some times when I put movies on a usb if I don't put them in the correct folder I have to push triangle and select show all files on the PS3, but you would think the PS3 would put them in the correct folder.

yes my USB only has one fil which is called PS3, and in that one i have "Saved Data" file which contains the GT5 copied saved data and some other games

but i should be able to just restore these saved data into the ps3 right?

GT5 save files should go under the code BCUS98114 - GAME.

Your PS3 can recognize corrupted save files, which is why they typically appear as "Corrupted Save" when you try and look at them in its menus. That being said, if it's corrupted, I could understand the system not allowing you to copy the file back over. It's probably a security feature, the same that you wouldn't normally be able to copy or access .exe files on your PS3 either.

So if it fixed the corrupted file on your system, good. However, if the save was corrupted when you copied it, then that's copy is probably unusable.

The XMB should be able to see it. I know it saw mine - sadly i saved an older save on the USB stick over the top of the latest save on the PS3:banghead:
So I know that the PS3 can see game saves on USB devices.

You should be able to copy it and save in the game save data utility folder.
Have you checked where you are regarding updates as it seems that you need to update to the same point as your backed up save?

Ok guys because my PS3 or my game was having problems i decided to follow the save mode option mentioned before. But because PS3 told me it was going to delete all data from the hard drive i decided to copy GT5 saved data and delete the game, because i thought the game had corrupted files. Then i did the safe mode option. It restored the system and fixed corrupted files.
So after that i installed GT5 again and shortly after it started to install all the updates from scratch, it took the all afternoon and the all night... 0_o
The i installed the optional 8gb to have all tracks installed.

So at this point the game is like new, no progress, no cars, no nothing, but since i copied the files from my other game progress i should be ok right? just have to copy them back, or saved them back, or restore them right? Actually which of these is the accurate option? I am getting confused on what is what, and what does what: copy/save/restore ?

Anyway, now the problem is my PS3 is not recognizing any files which i copied to my USB. When i go to "System Settings", then "Backup Utility" and choose "Restore" and select my USB drive: "USB Device (USB Disk 2.0)" - the PS3 then says that: "There is no backup data". And i say wtf?

But if i go to "Saved Data Utility (PS3tm)", where i can see GT5 saved data, which currently shows the following info. because i reinstalled the game:

Play Time: 1 day
Current Credits: Cr. 20.000
Current Car: --

and then if i select my "USB Device (USB Disk 2.0)" which contains the copied files from the saved data of my other GT5 saved game, - here is where i can't understand what´s going on - if i press "X" i tells me there is no data saved, but if i press "Triangle", for the information it shows what i copied before:

GT5 - 22/1/2012 - 15:13 - 1088 KB
Play time: 754 Days
Current Credits: Cr. 8,881,934
Current Car: Nissan Fairlady Z (Z34 08)

So it seems that all my progress is saved there, so i keep thinking that i am doing something wrong, how would u guys do it? There has to be a way to just save this back into the ps3 right? how and where?????!!!

ok guys i knew the problem was me and not the ps3 or my USB.

On the "Saved Data Utility" i just had to select my USB, press triangle and select "copy". What it did it overwrite my current GT5 saved data for my previous so now i have my game back, seems to work fine

yeah i guess im just a big noob, but i told u guys i didn't know what to do, but i found out.

but i still have one remaining problem. I can't use the cars from my first DLC car pack, i says that i have to reinstall them again, but on the "downloadable content" menu it is already installed. i don´t know how to fix this...

I would say that when you keep trying and figure it out in the end, you are not a noob at all.
