Corner handeling

Hi,
Picked up Shift2 last week and have changed my wheel settings and tuned my cars, but it seems like my cars' steering cuts out right when I begin to make hard turns, even long ones. I've tried no TCS, TCS etc. Is there a setting I'm missing. Other than that. I'm really enjoying the game. Way more challenging than GT5.

I'm using a logitech g27 with 540 steering lock in the wheel set up. In the tuning menu the steering lock its usually between 18-25 depending on the car / track.

No problems at all except when I miss the braking points :D

I have the DFGT and the steering lock is set up properly. The problem is on the turn entry. The FF dies out and I slide off the track. I feel like I have to take corners and turns way slower than the AI.

Are you sure you are not losing traction completely , hence no ffb ? I have the same wheel and i don't have any problems , other than on really tight tracks where i cant seem to get round the corners .

Sounds pretty much like oversteer to me... Are you sure your front wheels aren't locked from braking?
edit: look at the telemetry screen and see if you have front wheel grip when it happen (orange/red circle around the tire means no grip)

I have v1.02 which I believe is the latest. I'll check the telemetry later when I get a chance to play. I didn't think of that. Thanks for the replies.

I tend to agree here. Are you using a fwd car as well?

If coming from GT5 then the S2U handling will take some getting use to. I was able to pick up GT5 and race (and win) without any real practice. In S2U, it takes practice and "tuning" to get around the tracks quickly.

If it was your front tires losing traction sooner, try lowering the rear sway bar.
It is also a good idea to try and stiffen your suspension and try upping the dampers a bit... tuning is pretty much essential to getting around a track fast in shift 2

It was the front and rear outside tires losing traction. I've been using the Renown tunes with a few tweaks. Maybe I'm pushing too hard. I was also using the driving line as a speed gauge for turns until i get a feel for the game. Is that a bad idea? Is it accurate?

*voice of Barbossa* Think of it more as a guideline

I find I'm much quicker without the race line, because I'll be fixated more one the line then the road when it's on... It is a good way to find the right track mostly though.

edit: more precisely: barking irregularly as welll as steering

Classic example really of why if you spend so time with S2 you really do notice things which at first seem wrong, but are in fact brilliantly executed.
When you feel total lack of FFB or traction going into a bend, its cause you are taking it too fast for the car, its a simple bit of physics which will at first catch people out and its easy to jsut blame the game. In real life its called 'losing control' for a reason you know. 👍

Its amazing learning to drive the cars to their limits, but once you step over it, its world of pain. Thats such rewarding gaming. :sly:

Not to start an argument and I do enjoy shift 2 a lot however the only time you would loose all feeling for the car trough the steering wheel or FFB would be when the wheels loose contact with the ground or you are on ice.
Even if the car understeers you should still get feedback trough the steering wheel because the wheels are still gripping the Tarmac. I agree that there will be less resistance on the wheel but it should not cut out completely.

But the problem the OP is describing seems like a pre patch problem to me.

OMG. You were right it was a pre patch problem. I had rented the game a few months ago before they patched it and was using my old settings. I read a thread where they said to reset the steering settings after the patch. Holy hell. Like a new game. Handling is insanely better. Game just got better :))
