Hey dudes. I'm pretty new to this thread and tuning. I've been reading up on tuning guides, tunes, all that good stuff. I realize many people have tunes out there for the ZR1. I just wanted to pose a question and get a compilation of opinions back. That's the idea.

Anyways, I've got a ZR1 RM (obv.) and I've got it pretty well tuned out. (I believe) The one thing that really just mind ****s me is the transmission tuning. I've read a lot of guides and it seems that everyone and their sister has a different opinion on how it all works.

So, any of you dudes who have got a fulled modded ZR1 tranny tune that you're proud of, please show me the light. It'd be totally cool if you guys could post your gear ratios, and the reasoning behind them? I'm really just started to wrap my brain around philosophy of GT5 tuning.

If any of you have seen grenadeshark's transmission tuning guide, he mentions a usuable 2500 rpms in 1st gear, 2300 in 2nd, and 2100 in 3rd. What does this mean exactly, and does it continue in 200 rpm increments through all the gears? Is it different for various cars?

Also, one thing that really confused me on the ZR1 is the RPM that i should be centering my transmission tune on. The ZR1 has peak TQ at 4900 rpm, and peak HP at 6900 rpm, and redlines at 7900 rpm. So, what would be the optimal RPM range to tune for?

Also, how long/short should gears be, and how do you determine which is more effective in a given situation?

Well, I believe that's all the questioning I have for now. If this entire post sounds like ramblings, well, it probably is.

peace

I cant give a transmission as I never used the car. But for gearing on a track, keep and idea of what gears you are most often in. For example nurburg, im usually in 3rd and 4th for corners. So for tranny, individual gear get just under whenever your max torque RPM is. If you shift into third your RPMs drop, that drop should start at or right before peak torque. Also set your total top speed first, before you do individual gears. And fine tune gears. moving gears to the right increases accel but decreases top speed, moving gears left gives the car more gear so accel is slower, but higher top speed. So if a gears feels to slow move that gear to the right.

Mast_gamer Makes a good point, but I choice individual gear tuning as a second step. I like to start by doing the math that puts all gears square in the power band (there is my calculator and the tuning links thread). Then make adjustments for top speed and particular turns.
