"This photo is of the Howmet car at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway crossing the start finish line. The car was being used to record the turbine engine sound for a video game."

Very few games would feature such an awesome car, and I doubt that it was PD recording it.

I've sent them an e-mail asking about it. I really hope that they respond.

330 BHP (242.88 KW) @ 57,500 RPM (not a typo)!!!!

Well yeah, if it's a turbine engine it'll spin like that.

Really cool find! That is one hot-looking car; I love '60s racecars. The photo in question (at the Indy start/finish line) is dated March 22, 2007, however...it seems the game, or this car's appearance in the game, didn't work out. Or they just used the sound.

If you still want to "drive" it, I found this while looking around. :)

Interesting....

Cool find, and what Wolfe said makes sense.

I think the video game in question was PGR4, which was released in late 2007, and the sound was needed for the turbine bike in that game.

I don't much like modern race cars, but older ones like that and ideally the Toyota 7 would enrich the game further.

Nice find Shant J.

Apparently this little fella was spotted while being secretly filmed recording engines sounds for GT6 in the offices of PD.

I love you Kaz ;)

They responded. :(

"That was several years back so I don’t remember the name of the company or the name of the game (if it was known at the time) I think it was an indy car game.

The game people were at the speedway getting different engine sounds. Offy, Ford, Cosworth, Turbine, etc.

The speedway was not able to get their turbine going that day so they called me and I happened to have just returned from a trip somewhere with my Howmet car so it worked out to take it. Ed Carpenter drove the car that day.

Sorry I do not know more."

I can't think of a game that features an Offenhauser (Offy) engine...

Wouldn't make more sense if it WAS PD recording a generic turbo sound for their cars? I mean, we all know that they don't record a engine sound for all 1000 vehicles and have been known to recycle sounds, so, if a video game developer were using 1 car to record a turbo sound, doesn't that sound like PD? Turn10, on the other hand, actually has recorded engine sounds for most of their cars. Duplicate cars, they probable just copied the sounds, but....the majority of the cars in FM4 have their real engine sounds attached to the cars.

Unlikely this was recorded by Turn 10, they do their sound recording on a rolling road.

Could be for one in any number of games since 2007, including all the PC only sims, even there modders can these projects sometimes and they never see the light of day.
