Couple of GT5 nOOb questions

Im new to the forum, although Ive played GT series for years. However after looking over this forum Im thinking some of you guys are mad scientists when it comes to this game compared to me. I always thought I was a pretty good racer at GT (I skipped GT4 due to lack of a PS) and just recently got GT5. It seems like there is a whole science to tuning the cars now... I dont remember it being such a big deal in the early GT games... but maybe Im wrong.

Anyways, after perusing the forums for a few minutes Ive come up with a few questions.

First what is PP? I see this abbreviation listed in a lot of tunes and I dont know what it means.

Secondly, why not go with racing tires? Lots of the tunes Ive looked at suggest using sports tires. Im guessing this is simply so you can slide the car around for replay but Im not sure.

Third, when buying (or winning) a car in game, I normally tend to just go all out and upgrade everything possible. Usually assuming that more power and lighter weight etc. = faster car. But Im seeing lots of tunes that seem to suggest only a few changes. Not sure if this is to retain a certain level of driveability or if its to retain that cars handling traits.

Fourth, what can I change (if anything) in exhaust without making all the cars sound the same. I notice that most of my cars all sound the same (crap).

1. PP - Performance points. A level for determining a car's total ability with various values. Sometimes incorrectly.

2. People use these tyres to make their tunes rather better to drive. Rather than having just pure speed. Besides which, most online road car lobbies have limits to Sports Soft Tyres anyway.

3. Some tunes tend to avoid certain parts, mainly turbochargers, sometimes exhausts or aero parts, for various reasons. It all depends on what the car is meant to be, really.

4. You can only really choose the type of exhaust you're gonna use to change the sound. Though really, things like LF-A's and Murcielagos are meant to be kept stock with their exhausts - those are ones that do sound good.

PP = Performance Points, new system of (crudely) measuring a car's performance. Weight, or lack of, really screws it up. *coughGinettaG4cough*

Racing tyres numb the feel of the things, I mean, wouldn't you be bored of a Fiat 500 with racing slicks? It may allow for faster laps, but sport tyres are more of a compromise and are more forgiving when they let go at the limits.

Well, some cars are tuned to a certain PP limit, 550PP being the most popular category. Other times, it's done because a car is actually better off without stupid power, I've tuned a Commodore with only the 'bolt on' parts, and it was actually just as fast as a fully tuned one on SS tyres purely because all that power just couldn't be put to good enough use.

Swap out the racing exhaust, try the others. :P

PP Stands for Performance Points is determined by Weight, Horsepower, Downforce and Weight Distribution

Racing tyres are like an easy option, you could stick them on most cars and they would handle good. By tuning on sports tyres you can find faults or bad handling characteristics and fix them whereas with racing slicks it could just cover them up.

More Power and Lighter weight = faster car yes and more PP. But some events, offline & online require you to meet a certain PP restriction, so you only install a few upgrades to meet the PP Limit.

Sports Exhaust gives a lower note, Semi-Racing Exhaust gives a medium note, and Racing Exhaust gives a higher note. Unfortunately in GT5 alot of the cars sound the same which is quite disapointing

Hey mate.... For question 1.

If you are not actually seeing in the game a reference to PP anywhere then you need to upgrade the game. I have seen a few people baffled by references to PP only to find out they had not patched there game.

Latest version err... 2.02.xxxxxxxx I think... go to the Manual Page on the lower left of the main GT mode screen. On the upper left of the Manual contents page ou will see the version number written vertically there.

Just go check that and if its not version 2 something you should upgrade.

And if you do have PP showing in your game and I have answered totally retarded.... then sorry to waste the electrons and your time.
