After inheriting the business sold to them by Yves Courage in 2008, Oreca's Designers would begin taking a look at the struggling LC70. Seeing the potential of the chassis as well as its considerable success in the US as an Acura, Oreca decided to race the existing machinery before going with a brand new design. The less then ideal results during the 2006 and 2007 seasons already made it clear that some serious development was necessary before the cars could race again. First, the team decided to replace the engine by swapping out the twin-Turbo AER engine for the Naturally Aspirated Judd V10 engine, easily the most successful petrol engine of recent years. Next, taking a second look at the car's aerodynamics. While the body panels did get redesigned, the Oreca team extensively tested the Judd-engined cars with the original bodywork first. After the season opening official test at Paul Ricard with the two LMP1 racers still wearing their original bodies, the new car and livery were revealed. The car, having had extensive work done, was now Dubbed the Courage-Oreca LC70. The new car was equipped with a redesigned nose and tail, with one of the easiest differences between it and the original car being the relocation of the front brake cooling to the fenders, which would require new headlights.

The addition of this car would add another in the line of cars that spawned from the beautiful LC70 as well as the first Prototype actually designed by Oreca.
