Creative Commons - sharing digital property

Hey guys, just thought I'd drop a line in support of a non-profit that I believe pretty strongly in, especially in this digital-loving world of stealing, taking or sharing without any permission. There are a lot of people out there who believe that digital property shouldn't be based on ownership and exclusivity, but shared freely between everyone for the greater good of maker and looker.

This is where Creative Commons comes in. They've established some very simple and growingly-accepted ground rules for what can be shared how and under what circumstances. Here's a basic breakdown of what rights are reserved under Creative Commons.

http://creativecommons.org/about/license/

For instance, all of my photography is
cc_icon_attribution.gif
cc_icon_noncomm.gif
, Attribution Non-Commercial, which is to say that it has some rights reserved. Anyone is free to use my image for whatever they'd like without my permission as long as it is correctly attributed to me and not for commercial purposes. It's pretty simple!

I think that this is a step in the right direction considering the growing awareness of digital rights and consumer liberties in this new internet-borne world. Check it out and consider what kind of rights you want to reserve on your work!
