The story behind this image is the original owner was given a large insurance settlement with which he purchased the car. in his first few trips out in it he assumed he was confident enough to run it hard. Hit the wrong gear and scattered the engine components across the highway.

A year or so later, he had saved enough to rebuild the engine and within weeks promptly repeated his previous act. Sits there in much the same condition. A few thousand miles on it, and no engine.

Sad to see such a beautiful car go to waste.

That's not that bad. The only part he went wrong was not covering it. It's just a tad dusty, probably needs some air in the tires, an oil change, it might just start right up.

It could be worse. One of my friend's dad has a Renault Fluego Turbo in thier garage...under hundreds of pounds of boxes and other assorted crap. Worse than that, and I've seen this, when my friend needs something out of his filled garage he climbs on the car to get it. It's near mint but it's getting screwed up every time he does that. And the years of sitting with several hundred pounds on it the suspension is probably collapsed.

What some people do to thier cars. Bleh.

Well, it's a Fuego. Value undamaged - $100. Valued damaged (assuming bizarre metric wheels only Michelin makes tyres for are undamaged) - $95. No biggie.

Looks like a tumultuous meeting of telephone poll and fine japanese craftmanship with a light dusting of speed and a hint of opposite lock.

Start Right up? Maybe you missed the part about him wrecking the transmission and engine when he missed a gear.

It's only had one owner and it's got very few miles on the car. From what I've found out, the tires are original as well. the owners been offered cash for it many times, and refuses it each time. Speculation is it's paid for, isn't costing him anything to have it sit there, so he's waiting until it becomes a classic then he'll sell it.

You also forgot to throw in a heaping cup of poor driving skills.

Did he futz up the shift due to the gated shifter of the Countach? or, Is he just an idiot that should only be allowed to drive an old Chevy Wagon with a Power-Glide transmission?

My guess is that he ran out of talent.

i.e. "Both"

I concur with Vat_Man's assessment of the Fuego: fashionable for - ooh - 30 seconds. Can anyone else say StreetKa?

I rode in a Fuego once, when I was in France. But I believe I was snockered that night (my 20th birthday).
And all that registered is that it was indeed a Renault Fuego.
As my memory serves, It was a pretty forgetable little car.
Wasn't one of the little American cars of the time (early to mid '80's) it's corporate "twin"?

He should have a "car-alert" bracelet. "Do not sell this person a car with a manual transmission". "Do not sell this person a Hi-performance automobile"

I hate that guy. He should have at least had the decency to store it somewhere sensible and keep it clean. Engine or no engine.

I was sitting here thinking "Where's all the blood in the R34? You know the driver got splattered". Then I remembered that it's a right side drive. Damn lucky.

Wasn't it based on the remarkably crap Renault 16 chassis?

That would be at about the time that Renault were in a tie-up with Chrysler, from memory.

Bah, it's just a Countach. It's not like it was a Miura or an Espada, which were much more valuable, and much better looking, in my eyes.

True, true.
But the man murdered a Lambo, TWICE!!
He should be made to drive a Chrysler K-car, station wagon, for the rest of his driving days.

Possibly, what was its name on this side of the pond?
I keep associating it with the Geo Storm. But I'm pretty sure that's not right.
But I can see the front end in my mind's eye, and I keep coming up Geo Storm...*frustation*

Well I just think that the Fuego is unique in the US, it's the only one I've seen in person...that could be for a reason though...

The reason why you've only seen one in person is because they were poorly built. As one of my father's friend used to say, it's almost as if they were built from rust! They weren't popular, and they weren't reliable. They didn't sell many, either way. Not exactly a collectible.

Mr Pole - meet Mr Door...
Yeah, but as we've discussed before he was innocently sitting at a stoplight when the pole came up unexpectedly and broadsided him - certainly not his fault!
