I think the “joke” is that Australians can’t leave their homes. Which is 100% false.
In
ACT there is no restrictions for unvaxxed
In
SA unvaxxed can do everything except visit an aged care facility
In
NSW unvaxxed can do everything but go to music festivals.
In
TAS unvaxxed can do anything but go to pubs, bars, clubs & (liquor licensed) events
In
VIC unvaxxed can do everything but go to restaurants, pubs, clubs, casinos, cinemas, events & festivals
In
QLD unvaxxed can do everything but go to restaurants, pubs, clubs, festivals, events, attractions and visit someone in hospital.
In
WA unvaxxed can do anything but go to restaurants, pubs, clubs, festivals, events, bottle shops, stadiums, casinos or visit someone in hospital.
In
NT unvaxxed can do anything but go to pubs, clubs, casinos, (liquor licensed) restaurants & cafes, cinemas, theatres & ticketed events of >100 people (rural) or >500 people (urban)
In all of these circumstances people can still get food, go to the hardware store, the big box retailer or even a packed shopping centre. They can go to the beach, the park or the city centre. They can (WA excluded) travel between borders. They can meet with friends & family in a park or private residence with very loose (or no) capacity limits. I also saw no specific rules barring them from weddings, funerals, births or end of life visits.
Now for context here,
93.1% of Australians over 16 are fully vaccinated. These people, and the portion of the 6.9% that have a valid exemption, have no restrictions.
So if we estimate 1.9% of people have a real exemption, and 50% of genuine unvaxxed have a fake vaccination passport (my friend for example) that leaves 2.5% of Australians with some form of restrictions. Ranging in severity from no cinemas, to no visiting (but still being treated in) hospitals.
There’s just under 26 million people in Australia. Subtract those under 15 and there’s 21 million. Subtract the 97.5% who are vaccinated, exempt or bothered enough to get a fake passport. Keep in mind that 40% of all Aussies live in SA, ACT & NSW with extremely minimal restrictions.
That leaves you with 315,000 people that are “trapped in the Kangaroo’s belly.” All of which can “escape” by getting a medical exemption, getting a vaccine (including the recently approved novavax many had claimed to be waiting for), or by just downloading a picture from google.
More than two and a half times that many people have died in the “free” United States since the pandemic began. Nothing is ever going to help them “escape.”
