Custom music problems in-race

I used the custom bgm function in the options menu to put in some of my own music. But ever since I did that, my copy of GT5 sometimes has periodic freezes, FPS drops, and even the occasional permanent freeze. And on top of that, it doesn't even turn on the music I put in. This kind of problem happens around 70% of the time when I'm starting a REGULAR A-Spec race (it never turns on when I go online, but that I'm not really bothered by). If I'm starting a seasonal or an independent time trial it always works though. :D

Let me get to the point. I think that results with the custom bgm function vary with each PS3/GT5, but what has the GTPlanet community experienced regarding this issue?

For about six or so months after I got GT5, the game would sometimes "freeze" if I set the music to custom BGM. I would hear no music for about ten to fifteen seconds, and then the game would just freeze. When I looked at my playlist in GT5, I saw that some of my songs were "dimmed out" and they were songs that I would never hear when I was playing the game, despite the fact that I put them on my playlist. I went back and edited those songs out of the playlist, and the freezing stopped.

I tried adding those songs back to the playlist about a year or so afterward after plenty of updates had passed, but the songs still wouldn't play. The freezing didn't return however, so I'm not sure if this was fixed via update or what.

The best advice I can offer is to go into GT5, and view your playlist. If there are any songs that look dimmed out, you might want to remove them from the playlist, as I guess GT5 doesn't like certain files. I'm not exactly sure if the FPS drop or periodic freeze is music related, but some copies have their own idiosyncrasies I guess.

There was an option like this do the PSP version and I remember it saying only specific file types and frequencies or something is allowed.

The PS3 only likes certain files. The dimmed out ones are likely not accepted by the PS3 firmware and *I would think* therefore no games can support it.

That site lists the supported audio formats of the PS3 along with some other tidbits of information. Hope this helps.

Just to add to this, the PS3 doesn't like downloaded music! It looks for copyright information (as per above link from quote) so if it's not there, it won't work.

That would explain why Not_a_Guest's files aren't working, since they're mp3's. I always rip my music off of CD's anyway so that explains why I haven't encountered this problem before.

Oh... I got a ton of Youtube download rips, that might explain why the game is all jittery.
Some tracks work well, others don't. It's so confusing O.O

Eh, the vast majority of files on my PS3 are mp3 files, and they work fine. The songs that weren't working were off of one particular album (Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed OST). Everything else has worked.

Maybe it's a frequency problem?

Do you mean this?

" When using a USB adaptor to play music files, you may need to use a USB adaptor (not included) that supports copyright-protection features (to play copyright-protected files). "

Emphasis on "may" and the text inside the parenthesis. ;)
