Hey

just wondering what people prefer really, as I'm considering sometime to make my mark 5 golf GTI a little different, as the front end is heavily stone chipped (after over 100,000 miles) and slight rust starting to show on one front wing, I just cant decide what to do, do I just get the front end re-sprayed and live with that, do I do a two tone affect (as seen below) or wrap it?!

my cars current paint is like this:

a very deep blue, and with the blue glass is does work well, though in certain lights can look nearly black!

my second idea of the two tone, would be like this, but keeping the dark blue on the outside and a lighter blue on the in (where it is black here), possibly like the blue in the next pic.

my next idea would be this wrap.

as a slight bumper repair is needed and the front wing will need to be repaired, I have had a quote of a front end re-spray and repair of just under £700, im really tempted by the paint job with two blues but im not sure how it will look? and if its something other people would feel is a good idea.

or do you all know of a better idea ive not thought of?! ;)

Well the warp will not prevent the rust from rusting more, and it will be seen as the warp starts to throw bubbles.

A respray is needed.

Now what to get is very personal. I like the idea of blue on blue. But maybe not that contrasted, but maybe it's just the pic you showed of your paint that looks too dark.
Or go take a look into pearls and flakes. I think adding light blue flakes in the clear coat, and make a two tone or even a full respray (just the clear) with that gives you a very special and custom colour.

But when you're at the front you could consider taking the VW badge off ?

Maybe spray it stock colour, warp later. That way if you ever sell it, you will fetch more than on a two tone paint...

Just throwing out ideas.

yeh, the blues will be hard to choose, I may have to get some paint cards and have to look at what looks ok. the blue paint I have is going to be a tough choice to match, as in the sun it can look very blue, but out of the sun, very very dark.

as for the rust, it is tiny at the moment, but yeh I know it will need fixing, that is the main thing that's put me off wrapping, I was pretty set on it until I found that coming through, and seams it will need to be blended near a stone chipped bonnet, ild probably want the bonnet done while im at it.

I think the best idea would be going somewhere that actually has a few of them samples of different paint. The flakes I have considered. I think the main colour will stick with the blue I have, as a full colour change will become very pricey.

Im off university for the summer so I may drive around to different places to see some samples in person. Im not too bothered on resale price it might get sold down the road, but when I get into changing things I get attached, the same happened with my mark 4, and I would still have that if it wasn't for the tree!

Respray the front and fix the rust. Get it wrapped or if your on a budget, plastidip it. Plastidip is the better choice, if your buy a kit from www.dipyourcar.com you can get results that look exactly like a wrap. That's what I would do.
