Yo fellow sim racers, I've been racing a lot of RSRBR over the last few months and was using a button on my T500RS for an E-Brake for while, which is very unrealistic and ruins the experience imo.

Then when I received my wonderful DSD Pro Sequential shifter, I used it has the E-Brake and paddles to shift, This made my rally experience a little more enjoyable...but not enough, because I wanted to shift the DSD shifter not use it as an E-brake.

So it dawned on me 💡 to mod my G27 shifter into an E-brake. Since I already had done the realistic feel "chilli coke" mod and had the Leo Bodnar standalone adapter I thought why not give it a crack.

I tried many different spring combinations! (I wont picture them all) and looked for any spring that I could find in the shed (garage) and even added some high density foam....but it just didn't feel right and there wasn't enough resistance for the shaft I had chosen to spring back to the neutral/center position and it kept slipping into the 3rd gear position, when my objective was for the stick to pull into the 4th gear position to engage the action and spring back to to the center/neutral position with enough resistance and realistic enough feeling.

So I sat around scratching my head thinking what I could use to give this E-brake enough resistance for my liking. Then I glanced over at my G27 pedals...

PING!!!💡 I'll use the springs from the G27 pedal set for my mod, since I'm planning on gettng the nixim springs for rig's pedal upgrade anyway, I had no other use for them.

I went ahead and installed the G27 Brake spring at the front of shifter, clutch spring at the back and left the original top spring I had installed.

The combination of the G27 brake and clutch springs plus the other springs I rigged above the was perfect for my resistance objective and sprung back to the center position when pulled to engage E-brake (4th gear).

I used an old satellite speaker stand pole for the extended shaft which had a slight bend in it towards the top and was a perfect fit for for the G27 shifter shaft, once I cut it down to size and whacked some black paint on it to spruce it up a little and installed an after market stainless steel gear shift knob on it, she was ready to go. I also had to mod and paint my old G27 shifter mount from my old rig to fit my GT Omega Evo and mount the new G27 E-Brake to it.

All in all, I'm happy with the result of the project but not fully satisfied with the E-Brake, as I crave more resistance and realistic feeling, but it will do for the time being and I have already started planning my next E-Brake project thanks to the idea and advice that Derek Speare has given me.

I mean it's no frex, ARC or high end E-brake...but for a D.I.Y job it's pretty bloody good!! and feels great in game and gets the job done whilst adding more realism to my sim rally experience.👍
